Time: 20 minutes.
Note: This was the Police’s biggest hit, remaining at number one in the U.S.A. for eight
weeks in 1983. Puff Daddy sampled it on his 1997 hit “I’ll be Missing You”.
1) Hand out the worksheet. Look at the grids A and B, and check that students understand
the vocabulary.
2) Ask the students to write the words in the grids in the correct gaps in the lyrics (on the
left).
3) Hand out the worksheet and ask the students to try and put the words written in the grids
A and B in the correct gaps (on the left).
4) Play the song. Students listen and put the lines of the song in the correct order, by writing
the numbers underneath. They also check their predictions for the previous step.
7) Sing together.
8) Follow up: Ask students to create new lines for the song. They should be sentences which
rhyme with: every breath you take – every move you make – etc.
