.

1. Determine the force in members LK, KC, and CD of the Pratt truss. State if the members
are in tension or compression using method of section and verify it with method of joints.

[FKC = 6.67 kN (C); FCD = 62.22 kN (T); FLK.= 62.2 kN (C) ]

2. A truss of 12 m span is loaded as shown in Fig. Determine the force in all the members
using method of sections and joints. Find the moment at support ‘O’ for the structure shown
in the figure.
[Ans hint: FBD = 29.8 kN (C), FCE = 25.8 (T)]

3. Determine the distance dB and dD, and reaction and tensile force in the cable if dc = 3 m
[Ans: dB = 1.733 m and dD = 4.20 m , Ey = 21.5 kN]

4. Each cable of golden gate bridge supports a load w = 11.1 kips/ft along the horizontal.
Knowing that the span L is 4150 ft and the sag h is 464 ft, determine (a) the maximum
tension in each cable, (b) the length of each cable.
[Ans: Tmax = 56,400 kips, L = 4280 ft. ]
