Question 1: What is your specific title? What schooling,
degree, and experience do you have? And how long have you
been at your place of work?
“My title is Breast Patient Navigator”

“I have a bachelor of science in Nursing (from YSU), and I am a


certified oncology nurse and a certified breast patient navigator”

“I Have worked for Mercy Health for 35 years, and as a breast navigator
for 15 years”

Question 2: How many patients do you typically
serve in a day? And what services do they receive?
“I meet with women having a breast biopsy, so that number varies by
the day. I typically interact with 600-700 women per year”

“My interaction begins with an abnormal finding on breast imaging. I


work with them through the biopsy, the results, and getting them
connected to services such as surgery, oncology, etc.…if they have
breast cancer. I also connect them with community resources, when
needed and serve as a guide through that process”

population?
“Primarily women (although we do see men and have diagnosed male
breast cancers). Age varies, but mostly ages 30-75”

Question 4: What type of work environment do
you work in? What are your favorite/least favorite
parts of your job?
“My workday includes being in breast biopsy procedures, talking with
patients in consult rooms, and working at my desk–-phone calls,
results, etc.…”

“My favorite part is seeing how relieved women are after the biopsy is
done and giving benign breast biopsy results”

“My least favorite thing is telling a woman that she has breast cancer”

Question 5: What’s a typical day in your life at
work?
“My day is very unpredictable. Biopsies may be added or cancelled
last minute, and I never know what the need will be when I pick up my
phone”

“Some days are very hectic with little time to address all the
issues/questions. I do my best to serve as a guide for women during a
very stressful time and to support them emotionally as well as provide
them with reliable information/education”
