Subject: Proposal for the Addition of Classes at MU

Purpose

The purpose of the proposal is to increase the number of classes by 40 total classes offered at

Millersville University per full school year for the next five years.

Summary

It is often difficult for students at Millersville to schedule the needed classes because the class is

either not offered or there are only a select few times available to take a certain class.

This proposal will address the issue that many students have of not having options and freedom

when creating their class schedules, by suggesting the addition of professors at the university. It

will discuss the budget that could possibly be altered to allow this to happen. The proposal will

also show the schedule for the addition of professors at Millersville. The ultimate goal is to give

more class opportunities for students, so they can have more flexibility in their lives.

Introduction

The goal of this proposal is to help Millersville University students with their class schedules.

When it comes time to register every semester it can often be challenging for students to get all

the classes that they need to graduate because Millersville does not offer every course during a
2

semester. This can also be an issue because the available options may conflict with something

else, such as another class or an extracurricular activity. Millersville has a certain budget on

areas in which they can spend money, such as instruction and professors. This proposal will

explore possibilities to rework the budget, so that more money could be spent on increasing the

number of professors at the university. The proposal is suggesting with the addition of five full-

time professors every academic year for five years, then the number of classes per year will

increase as well by roughly twenty total classes per semester. For this issue to be resolved, the

first need is to find a way to allow for the budget to add the intended number of professors, then

plan for how this idea will be implemented and it will hopefully lead to the addition of classes at

Millersville.

Proposed Tasks

Task 1: Find a way to allow the budget to support the addition of 5 professors per full

school year

One way in which Millersville University could come up with the money to afford to pay for five

new professors a year would be to defund other areas budgeted by the school. To figure out what

those areas are, Millersville should run specific tests or have student surveys to find out which

resources are being used the least and how money may be getting wasted. The budget could then

be lowered in those areas and increased in the salary portion for professors. By doing certain

surveys and tests it can help the university get a good grasp on how well money is being spent.

The increase of five professors per academic year would be an approximate increase of 455,000

dollars.

Task 2: Plan for hiring professors

The plan is to add five full-time professors every academic year through 2027. On average a full-

time professor teaches about four classes per semester. That would be an addition of twenty

classes for a semester and forty for a full academic year. By the end of the proposal there would

be an addition of around 200 available classes combined throughout all departments.

Task 3: Complete idea by giving more class opportunities for students

By increasing the number of professors, naturally there will be more classes offered to students.

Hopefully this proposal can be completed as soon as the next school year. In five years with

approximately 200 classes added that are spread throughout all departments, Millersville students

will have many more opportunities.

Experience

Our company has plenty of experience when it comes to working with universities on projects

like this. We have helped numerous institutions solve issues that involved with their student

bodies. With that background, this project would certainly be completed on time and within the

budget that is allowed.
