1 EXT. MANILA SCENES. DAY.

A montage of the sights and sounds of Manila on an

ordinary afternoon. The montage shows places and people

in landmarks that define this city: the Quiapo church,

the LRT, Luneta, Quezon bridge, Roxas boulevard, etc. The

hectic sounds of the city slowly blend into the opening

chords of Pumapatak ang Ulan.

As the intro of the song becomes gradually recognizable,

we zero in on a traffic infested highway, to a line of

vehicles lined up bumper to bumper, to a taxi cab trapped

in the middle of a traffic jam, to the radio in the taxi

cab that plays the song.

ROSE, LILIBETH and VICKY are inside the cab.They just

came from the market. Pumapatak ang Ulan continues to

play on the old car radio as they talk.

Rose has a permanent frown on her face -- preoccupied,

worried, impatient. Lilibeth and Vicky try their best to

brighten up her mood. Inside the cab are their shopping

bags full of cooking ingredients.

ROSE
Talking very fast.) May prusisyon ba?
May rally? Ano bang meron? Manong, naman
kasi, alam n’yo naman yatang traffic,
dito pa kayo dumaan. Magdidilim na
nandito pa rin tayo. Pati paningin ko
malapit na magdilim.

DRIVER
Pasensya na po, misis. Baka may banggaan
lang.

ROSE
Sinabi ko naman sa inyo Mag-LRT na lang
tayo, e. Nakatipid pa tayo.

LILIBETH
Easy ka lang, Rose. Relax.

VICKY
Mage-LRT tayo? Ang dami nating bitbit,
ang init-init, siksikan pa baka madukutan
pa tayo d’un.

ROSE
Para namang may madudukot. at Sa takbo ng
metro nitong si manong di ba
para na nga rin tayong nadukutan.

The driver turns up the radio to drown Rose’s nagging.

VICKY
Oy, gawa ni Pol ‘yan, di ba?

ROSE
Susmaryosep! Manong, pakihinaan n’yo nga
‘yang radyo n’yo o kaya ilipat n’yo
lang. O kaya patayin n’yo na lang, mas
maige pa.

LILIBETH
Eto naman! Dapat nga matuwa ka at tag-
ulan na. May racket na naman ang
asawa mo.

ROSE
Ay! Ayoko nang marinig yan. Nineteen
kopong kopong pa ‘yan. Dudugo na ang
tenga ko sa kantang ‘yan. Pwede ba!

Just in time the song ends with a radio commercial voice-

over.

ANNOUNCER
(v.o.) Maging handa sa unang
pagpatak ng ulan, mag-Tapal
King roof sealant na! Tapal
King roof sealant laging
handa sa pagpatak ng ulan!

The jingle fades out: pumapatak na naman ang

ulan...pumapatak na naman ang ulan...

The radio resumes its regular programming.

VICKY
O, bongga! Magkano naman ang kinita n’yo
d’yan, sis?

ROSE
Hindi na mahalaga kung magkano dahil kung
may kinita man ‘yan ay nasaid na. Kung
bakit nga tayo pupunta pa ng department
store para bumili ng damit hindi ko alam.
Ang mahal mahal. Kung pwede naman sa
palengke na lang kanina o kaya luma na
lang.

VICKY
Ay, hinde, ‘no! Nakakahiya naman sa
babaleihin mo. Kailangan mo naman mag-
ayos.

LILIBETH
Atsaka ikre-credit card naman natin.
Sagot ko na muna. Wag mo nang isipin
‘yun.

VICKY
Aayusan kita bukas nang umaga. At
tutulungan ka naming magluto mamayang
gabi. Okay? Okay na? Okay ka na?

ROSE
Ok? Paano magiging ok? Sabihin n’yo nga,
Vicky, Lilibeth? Paano ako magiging okay?

VICKY
Ano ba talagang problema?

ROSE
Ano’ng problema? Hindi n’yo ba
naiintindihan? ‘Yang mga lintik na ‘yan
ginawa na nila akong lola!

3 EXT/INT. POLOTAN HOUSE. DAY.

A small sign at the gate reads: POLOTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC

AND CATERTING SERVICES.

POL is seen holding guitar lessons to his five young

students - no older than 16. RAPRAP, their 6 year old

son, is Pol’s “assistant”.

Pol looks and listens intently as the beginner students

play their guitar. He holds a bottle of beer and drinks

while teaching every now and then. They are also

practicing the chords of Pumapatak ang Ulan.

POL
Ano’ng sinabi ko kanina? Basic lesson.
Huwag sa fret ipre-press and string kundi

RAPRAP
Sa space sa pagitan ng fret.

He listens and watches.

POL
Wala kayo sa tiyempo. Ayusin n’yo ang
posture n’yo. Hold your guitar properly

RAPRAP

One student suddenly gets up and sighs out of

frustration. The other students stop too.

POL (CONT’D)
O, bakit kayo tumigil?

E, kasi naman po Mang Pol --

RAPRAP
Sir Pol!

STUDENT 1
Sir Pol, buong hapon na tayong Pumapatak
ang Ulan nang Pumapatak ang Ulan. ‘Yun at
yun na ang tinutugtog natin.

POL
O, bakit, original composition ko ‘yan,
ah? Kailangan n’yong ma-master ‘yan. May
reklamo?

RAPRAP
Oo nga, may reklamo?

STUDENT 2
Wala naman po mang Pol. Ang ganda nga ng
composition n’yo. (Sarcastic.) Actually,
dalang dala nga po kami pero wala na po
ba kayong ibang obra?

RAPRAP
Oo nga naman,’tay, wala na bang iba?

POL
(To Raprap.) Hoy, ikaw, bakit mo ko
nilalaglag? (To his students.) Mga
ambisyoso kayo,ah. Kung yan ngang kantang
‘yan, di n’yo matugtog nang tama,
naghahanap pa kayo ng challenge.

STUDENT 1
E kung wala kayong ibang kanta, eh di,
tumugtog na lang tayo ng gawa ng iba.

Ang tatayog ng mga pangarap nitong mga

gawa ng kanta. Bakit? Ano’ng tingin n’yo
sa sarili n’yo? Mga artists ba kayo?
(Pauses. All is quiet.) Unang una,

Pol gets his guitar and starts to play and sing.

ROCK
Bro, sigurado ka ba okay lang sa ‘yo?

BRENT
Ibang level ang kakulitan mo. Bro, kesa
naman mag-arkila ka pa ng van bukas -
ipagmamaneho ko na lang kayo. Pakargahan
mo na lang ng gas kung nahihiya ka.

ROCK
Mag-commute na lang kaya kami?

BRENT
Gago, nakakahiya. Mamamanhikan ka, magko-
commute ka. Baka pagharap mo sa
bibiyenanin mo, bumubula na yang kili
kili mo.

BARKADA 1
Mamamanhikan pa kayo? Uso pa ba ‘yun?

ROCK
Ewan ko ba dito kay Tracy. Siya naman may
idea nun. Dyahe nga, e.

BARKADA 2
Ganun talaga ‘pag ikakasal. ‘Yung mga
ermats at erpats kailangan namang
magkakilala. Di naman pwedeng sa simbahan
na lang magkikita yung mga yun.

Pare ikakasal ka na talaga. ‘Stig!

5 INT. DEPARTMENT STORE. DAY

At the Ladies’s Wear section of a department store, Rose,

Lilibeth and Vicky are looking for clothes for Rose to

wear for the pamamanhikan.

ROSE
‘Yun nga ang topic bukas. Kung kailan,
saan, sino’ng mga ninong, ninang, abay --
at sino’ng gagastos.

VICKY
Siyempre, ‘yung partido ng lalaki ang
sagot sa kasal. Nakakahiya naman kung --

ROSE
Kaya nga parang sasabog na itong mga ugat
ko sa kakaisip kung saan ako hahanap ng
gagastusin d’yan.

LILIBETH
Pwede namang simple lang ang kasalan
ngayon. Hindi na uso yung en grande.
Hindi na praktikal. Pang artista’t
pulitiko lang ‘yun.

ROSE
Naku, hindi n’yo kilala si Tracy. Sa asta
ng mamanugangin kong ‘yun mabuti kung
pumayag ‘yun sa simpleng kasalan lang.

VICKY
Bakit naman?

6 EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD BASKETBALL COURT. DAY.

The boys continue joking.

ROCK
Ibang klase si Tracy, pare. Hindi siya
kagaya ng mga chick dito sa ‘tin.

BARKADA 1
Ibig sabihin ba n’yan sa For-bes Park ang
kasalan? Mahina na sa Shangri-La ang
tsibugan?

ROCK
Kahit sunugin mo ko ngayon wala kayong
makukuhang pambayad dun. San ako kukuha
nun?

7 INT. DEPARTMENT STORE. DAY.

Rose has pick some clothes to try on.

ROSE
Kung pambayad sa Meralco nga hindi ko
alam kung saan ko kukunin, maghohotel pa
para sa reception.

Pwes, ‘yan ang pag-usapan n’yo bukas at
huwag kang papayag na sila ang masusunod.
Lalaki ang anak mo.

LILIBETH
Tama!

The boys talk becomes exciting, passionate.

BRENT
Mali! Mali ka, bro! Maling mali ka naman
d’un. Mangungutang ka para lang lustayin
mo lang sa isang araw. Isang araw lang na
pagbabayaran mo nang ilang taon?

ROCK
Ikaw naman. Parang di mo kilala si Tracy.

On her way to the fitting room, the three friends

continue talking.

VICKY
Kung talagang magiging mag-asawa sila
dapat ngayon pa lang matuto na siyang mag-
adjust. Hindi uubra yung luho ng babaeng
‘yan.

ROSE
Madaling sabihin ‘yan, sis. Pero hindi mo
alam ang sinasabi mo.

LILIBETH
Teka nga muna gaano ba kaarte ‘yang
babaeng ‘yan?

Rose starts to sing.

bags. She is flanked by her susyal friends. They are

laughing and giggling.

Rock, Brent and friends start dancing and singing in the

neighborhood court. They use basketballs, benches, etc.

as props.

Rock and Tracy are walking in the mall. He overhears

Tracy talking to her mom in Spanish.

Rose has tried on a rather flambouyantly glamorous outfit

as if to mock Tracy’s upbringing.

Rose witnesses Tracy’s cute little dog peeing on their

carpet. She squirms. Tracy picks up her dog and scolds

friends continue trying on the most glamorous outfits,

parading and dancing across the store. The dance seems to

make fun and ridicule the high life that Tracy lives.

A real fashionable, well put togther woman rides the car.

They look at each other. They start hailing a taxi cab.

SOCIALITE

pagkain, make sure its along the way,
intiendes)

ROSE
Taxi!!!

22 EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD BASKETBALL COURT. DAY.

Rock and friends finish the dance then walk away to go

home to their respective houses.

ROCK

BRENT
Matulog ka na nang maaga. Pahinga ka na.
‘Wag ka na muna mag shower baka mapasma
ka.

Rock puts his arm over Brent’s shoulder as they walk

home.

23 EXT. POLOTAN HOUSE/LIVING ROOM. NIGHT.

The three friends arrive with their shopping bags from

the wet market and the department store. They are greeted

by the younger kids: Raprap and Jazzy. They make mano to

their mom and their titas.

CUT TO:

They go inside the house.

LILIBETH
Ipasok na namin ‘to sa kusina.

ROSE
Sige. Susunod na ko.

JAZZY
Wala kang pasalubong, ‘Nay?

ROSE
Bakit, Jazz, hindi pa ba kayo kumakain?

JAZZY
Kumain na po.

RAPRAP
As usual nagbukas si Tatay ng de lata.
Pero wala namang dessert.

ROSE
Sige, Rap. Uunahin ko nang iluto yung
buko pandan para bukas. ‘Yung isang
lyanera irereserba ko para sa ‘yo mamaya.
Ang magaling n’yong kuya nasaan?

Nasa taas po.

24 INT. POLOTAN HOUSE/ROCK’S ROOM. NIGHT.

Rock has just taken a shower and changed his clothes. His

mom knocks on his bedroom door.

ROCK
Pasok.

Rose sits on Rock’s bed.

ROSE
Rock, pwede ba tayong mag-usap?

ROCK
Ano po ‘yun, ‘Nay?

There is a moment of silence.

ROSE
Ano ba ang plano mo?

ROCK
(Abruptly.) Susunduin daw po tayo ni
Brent ng mga alas sais y media. Gamit
n’ya yung van nila. Pakargahan na lang
daw natin ng gasolina.

ROSE
Hindi ‘yun. Ano ba ang plano mo sa buhay
mo?

Rock sits at the edge of his bed.

ROSE (CONT’D)
Bukas kapag hiningi natin ang kamay ni
Tracy sa mga magulang niya -- wala nang
bawian ‘yun.

Rock is confused, speechless.

ROSE (CONT’D)
Kasal ‘yan. Kontrata ‘yan. Sumpaan ‘yan.
Sa harap ng Diyos. Hamambuhay ‘yan.
Naiintindihan mo ba?

ROCK
Ano ba’ng gusto n’yong gawin ko? ‘Wag na
akong magpakasal?

ROCK
‘Nay, hindi naman ako tanga. Alam ko

Rose, Lilibeth and Vicky are now cooking in the kitchen.

The place is very busy -- a lot of dishes are cooked all

at the same time. Rose is chopping up the chicken like a

mad woman -- pouring all of her frustrations on the

chopping board.

Pinalaki mo. (Chops the chicken.)

They put down their phones. They close their eyes.

Tracy is too nervous too sleep.

Elaine knocks on her door and lets her self in. She

Elaine is quiet.

TRACY (CONT’D)

ELAINE

Tracy gets up and sits on her bed.

ELAINE (CONT’D)
I mean, I don’t want you to commit the

TRACY

ELAINE
That’s beside the point. You’re only
nineteen. You have a whole lifetime ahead

clients abroad.

Elaine goes inside Nick’s office. Nick is oblivious of

Brent gets off the van. His face is full of sadness and

defeat. He’s wearing a black long sleeves shirt. He takes

deep a breath. He puts on a happy face and rings the

Polotan’s door bell.

He is welcomed by Jazz.

JAZZY
Kuya Brent! Good morning!

Rose who is packing their goes out of the kitchen to

ROSE

BRENT

LILIBETH
E, bakit naman nakaitim ka -- para kang

Brent goes up Rock’s room.

Brent quietly goes inside Rock’s room. He finds Rock

still sleeping. Instead of waking him, he quietly sits at

the edge of the bed and lovingly watches his sleeping

take Brent away from Rock.

Rock takes his towel, takes of his shirt and enters the

bathroom.

Rock is holding a map and co-pilots the trip with Brent.

VICKY

They laugh as they travel through the long rustic hi way.

Tracy and her brothers eagerly await the arrival of the

Polotan’s.

TRACY

Julio goes back to the house. Tracy is left alone in the

balcony, fidgety and tense.

35 EXT. HACIENDA ENTRANCE. DAY.

The van finally reaches the entrance to the Fuentebella

farm. The gate is tall and huge and imposing. They are

welcomed by two guards. Everyone in the van is

intimidated by the grand welcome sign -- even Rose who

refuses to be intimidated by the surroundings.

GUARD 1
Kayo po ba ang pamilya Polotan?

ROCK
Kami nga.

GUARD 1
Ineexpect na po kayo nina General.

ROCK
Saan po ba ‘yun?

GUARD 1
Diretso lang. Sundan n’yo lang yung daan.
Mga kinse minutos pa mula dito.

ROCK
Salamat, bossing, ha.

The van continues to move, following the path lined up

with tall, magnificent mango trees. the farm is huge.

Workers can be seen tending the farm on the side of the

road. They occasionally wave at them.

The family is still astounded.

BRENT
Bro! Bakit hindi mo naman kami inabisuhan
na may sariling Farm Town pala sa totoong
buhay itong sina Tracy?

First time ko lang makapunta dito.

Ang ganda dito, in fairness, ha? Yamanin

A long line of cattle being shepherd by a worker welcomes

them.

whole Fuentebella family. Everybody gets out of the van.

The dads and moms shake hands. Elaine awkwardly kisses

Rose on the cheeks -- European style.

NICK
Welcome to our farm, kumpare, kumadre.

ELAINE
Mare, finally, mabuti naman at nag-meet
na rin tayo.

Rose lets out a smile.

ROSE
Mga kaibigan ko -- si Lilibeth, si Vicky.

pagbibitin mo n’yan. (She claps her
hands. About a dozen maids appear to
bring on the food from the van.) Halika

Every one goes inside the house except for Rock and

Tracy.

TRACY
Mom, can I just show Rock around? May
ipapakita lang ako sa kanya.

ELAINE
Sige, pero bilisan n’yo ha? Kakain na.
Gutom na ang lolo n’yo.

TRACY
(To Rock.) Halika, doon tayo.

ROCK
Saan? Ano’ng meron d’un?

TRACY

From the balcony, Lolo Julio was sizing up his guests.

The young couple walks towards an old dilapidated chapel.

Kung anu-ano lang. But mostly mangoes,
bananas, guapols, ganyan. May ostrich
farm din si lolo banda d’un. Mamaya let’s

ROCK

They reach the facade of the chapel.

TRACY (CONT’D)
Here! This is what I want to show you.

Rock looks at the structure. Tracy leads him inside the

chapel.

TRACY (CONT’D)
Ang gusto ko sana dito tayo ikasal. Dito
rin kinasal sina Mom and Dad -- pati mga
uncles and aunts ko.

ROCK
(Falabbergasted.) May sarili kayong
simbahan?

TRACY
Ano ka ba? It’s really just a small
chapel. Medyo old na pero I will try to
convince lolo to remodel it in time for
our big day. Konting renovations lang
‘yan. (Pauses.) Guess what? It can fit
around 150 guests.

ROCK
150?

TRACY
Yup, small wedding lang ang gusto natin,
di ba?

ROCK
Small na ba ‘yun?

Tapos, ‘yung reception dito na rin sa
farm para tipid. Gusto ko sana, hapon
‘yung wedding tapos dinner time ‘yung
reception para mas romantic, di ba? ‘Yung

pwede nating ipa-book na lang natin sa
isang nearby resort.

ROCK

TRACY
Tapos, i was just thinking kung ano kaya
ang magandang motiff. I’m torn between
40’s old Hollywood or Filipiniana pero
with a glam rock twist. Ano sa palagay

ROCK
Akala ko ba ang gusto mo simple lang?

TRACY
Bakit? Ano ba ang concept mo ng simple?

ROCK
Simple? ‘Yung -- mura.

TRACY
Gusto mo ba sa huwes na lang tayo

ROCK

mind materializes in chapel. Her dream wedding is

realized as they sing the last part of the song. It is

the most perfect wedding. Everyone (family and guests)

are all happy for the couple. The fantasy ends with the

newlyweds exiting the chapel as the guests and entourage

shower them with red rose petals. The seal the daydream

with a kiss.

(Unsure.) Okay lang naman.

Austin and Blake look and whisper at each other.

JULIO
Yes, I’ve heard that song. (Pauses.) Ano

TRACY
It’s a very popular song, Lo.

JULIO
Of course, it is.

Julio breaks the silence with the clapping of his hands.

JULIO (CONT’D)
Kanin pa nga, Inday.

The maid passes the on the rice to the patriarch.

As he is served hot steaming rice. He looks sternly at

Rock.

JULIO (CONT’D)
Hijo.

ROCK
Po?

Julio blows on the hot rice on his spoon.

JULIO
May kasabihan tayo na ang pag-aasawa ay
di biro, hindi parang kaning iluluwa
kapag napaso.

He then proceeds to eat.

ROCK
Alam ko naman po ‘yun. (He is served
nilaga by one of the maids.) Pero
naniniwala rin po ako na pag may tiyaga,
may nilaga.

Julio squeezes calamansi on his patis.

JULIO
Pero baka nakakalimutan mo na kapag mura
ang dayap, pigain may walang katas.

ROCK
Po?

Silence broken by Vicky.

VICKY
Ang ibig n’yang sabihin, Rock, kung hindi
uukol hindi bubukol.

JULIO
Ang gusto kong sabihin -- ang bungang
hinog sa sanga matamis ang lasa. Ang
bungang hinog sa pilit kung kainin ay
mapait!

Everybody looks at Julio and Vicky as they argue in their

own “language”.

Pero, sir, in fairness, ang umaayaw ay di

JULIO
Pero ang lumalakad nang mabagal, kung

I agree with Dad. Hindi rin ako
kumportabble na ipakasal ang dalawang
bata.

TRACY

NICK
Patricia! Don’t talk to your mother that

JULIO

They walk out of the dining room.

The Polotans storm out of the room.

TRACY

ROCKY

(Grabs Tracy.) You’re not going anywhere.

JULIO
Nandito ka na sa banig, lilipat ka pa sa
sahig?

TRACY
What? What are you talking about?

JULIO
‘Yan ba ang klase ng mga tao ang ipapasok
mo sa pamilyang ito. Hindi mo kilala ang
mga ‘yan. Hija, ‘wag kang tanga, kung
nasaan ang asukal, naruon ang langgam.

Pol hears Julio last statement and gets really insulted.

He turns back and confronts the old man.

POL
Anak ng --. Hoy, tanda! Naintindihan ko
‘yun, ah.

JULIO
Bato bato sa langit, ang tamaan wag
magalit!

Pol lunges at the old man but Nick gets in the way. Pol

punches Nick. Nick punches back. Pol kicks Nick. Julio

gets up and hits Pol. Rock tries to stop the fight but

gets hit by Julio. Jazzy and Raprap try to stop the

fight. Austin and Blake defend their grandfather and

ends up fighting with the other kids. Elaine and Rose

can’t stop screaming, trying to stop the fight. Lilibeth

approaches one of the maids as the fight ensues.

LILIBETH
Inday, hugasan mo na agad ‘yung mga
Tupperware para maiuwi na namin, ha?

MAID
Opo, ma’am.

The mad scramble continues.

CUT TO:

39 INT./EXT. INSIDE BRENT’S VAN/HIWAY. DAY.

The van travels back to Manila.

Inside the van, everybody is distraught. Some of them

sport some brand new bruises and scars -- most especially

Pol. The kids’ clothes are are also torn from the

fighting.

Everybody is speechless.

ROSE
Tama ba na makipag-wrestling kayo kanina?
Tingnan n’yo mga hitsura n’yo.

POL
Tayo na nga hinihiya kanina. Ano’ng gusto
mo lunukin ko na lang lahat ng sinabi
nila?

ROSE
Pol, matanda ‘yun! Malamang ulyanin na
‘yun. Bakit mo naman pinatulan? Sa harap
pa ng mga bata. Nakakahiya!

POL
Nakakahiya na kung nakakahiya. Lagi ka
namang ganyan -- lagi mo na lang akong
kinahihiya.

ROSE
Hindi ‘yun ang point ko.

POL
OO, sige na, ikaw na ang tama. Dapat ang
ginawa ko tinaggap ko na lang na lait
laitin nila ang pamilya ko at pati ang
pagkatao ko. Okay na?

ROSE
Ewan! Ang hirap mong kausap!

The radio plays Pumapatak ang Ulan again.

(Serious.) Patayin n’yo nga ‘yan.

Brent immediately turns off the radio.

It starts to drizzle.

Brent drives faster through the highway.

40 INT. FUENTEBELLA HOUSE/DINING AREA. DAY.

The dining area and other parts of the house is a mess.

The maids are busy cleaning the mess made by the fight.

Elaine supervises them. Nick arrives from Julio’s

bedroom.

ELAINE
Kumusta na si Dad?

NICK
He’s ok. kalmado na. (Pauses.) Are you
happy now? You got what you wanted?

ELAINE
Wala kong balak na paghiwalayin ang mga
bata. Ang gusto ko lang maghintay sila.
Kayo naman, dinaan n’yo agad sa init ng
ulo.

NICK
Maghintay ng ano? Na lumobo ang t’yan ng
anak mo?

ELAINE
Ano ba’ng kinahihiya mo? Pareho lang
naman kami ni Tracy, ah? Ano’ng gusto mo
tumulad siya sa ‘kin? Nagpakasal dahil
nabuntis lang.

NICK
After all these years, don’t tell me,
ngayon ka pa nagsisisi?

ELAINE
Nick, this is not about me, this about
our daughter.

NICK
Ok! So, what about your daughter? What
are you going to do about your daughter?

Aalis na muna kami. Sa States na lang
siya -- hanggang manganak.

NICK

Nick bolts out. The rain starts to pour.

The rain has started to pour in the Polotan’s

neighborhood.

Everyone is getting ready for bed. Jazzy and Raprap kiss

their mother good night.

ROSE
Tulog na, ha? May pasok pa bukas.

RAPRAP
Good night, ‘Nay.

JAZZY
Love you, ‘Nay.

ROSE
Love you, too. Sweet dreams.

Rose turns off the lights and leaves the room. She heads

for Rock’s room.

Rock is dialing Tracy’s number but can not get through.

He does this a number of times, desperately. He hears a

knock on his door. He turns away and covers his head with

a pillow.

Rose sees Rock on his bed -- his face covered with a

pillow. She sits on the bed beside him.

ROSE (CONT’D)
Rock? Rock, anak? Gusto mo ng kausap?

Rock doesn’t answer.

Rose closes the bedroom window, puts a blanket on her son

and turns off the lights.

Rock is awake all this time. He sits up and looks outside

the window.

He starts to sing.

the van. She says goodbye to her kumares who are inside

with the used catering utilities.

Mrs. Villanueva. Vicky, ikaw na kumausap
at tawad nang tawad.

VICKY
Ako na’ng bahala!

LILIBETH
‘Yung pa-last night ng patay kina Mang
Teroy, ano? Papatulan ba natin?

ROSE
Oo naman. Sayang din yun. Lamay, di ba?

The van leaves. She goes inside to find Pol teaching

students guitar lessons.

(Attempting to help his wife with her
bags and what nots.) Tulungan na kita.

ROSE
Hindi na. Kaya ko na ‘to.

She finds Jazzy and Raprap in the living room. Jazzy is

doing her homework while Raprap is doodling on some

scratch paper. They greet and kiss their mother.

ROSE (CONT’D)
Ang kuya n’yo lumabas na ba ng kuwarto?

JAZZY
May kuya pa ba kami?

RAPRAP
Nakalimutan ko na nga hitsura ni kuya.

ROSE
Hindi na naman kumain?

RAPRAP
Hindi po.

She goes upstairs and knocks on his son’s door.

ROSE
Rock! Rock, ano ba? Buksan mo nga itong
pinto! (She bangs on the door.) Rock!

Rock opens the door. Rose is disgusted by the smell of

the room and of his son. The room is in a state of

squalor. Rock is totally depressed -- unshaven , dirty

and stinky.

ROSE (CONT’D)
Ano? Ibuburo mo na lang ba ang sarili mo
dito? Tatlong araw ka na dito! Hindi na
kuwarto ‘to! Bartolina na ‘to! Hindi ka
kumakain, hindi ka naliligo! Kung hindi
ka mamamatay sa gutom, mamamatay ka sa
kabahuan!

ROCK
Walang namamatay sa kabahuan. Sa lungkot,
meron.

ROSE
Sige. Maglungkot-lungkotan ka! Tuloy ang
ikot ng mundo, Rock. Hindi pwedeng
ganyan. Tuloy ang buhay. Ano pa ang hindi
mo matanggap!Hindi kayo maikakasal, ayaw
sa ‘yo ng pamilya niya, ayaw nila sa
atin! Nandidiri sila sa ‘tin. Na chea-
cheapan sila sa ‘tin. Ano pa?

ROCK
Wow, ‘nay! Ang sakit naman pag galing sa
inyo!

ROSE
A, talagang masakit! Dahil ‘yun ang
totoo! Next chapter na, anak, next
chapter!

ROCK
E, ‘yung anak ko? Hindi ko na makikita?
Anak ko ‘yun!

ROSE
Bakit? Lumabas na ba? Nandyan na ba? May
naririnig ka na bang umuuha? Saka na lang
natin problemahin pag nandyan na! In the
meantime, maligo ka muna!

ROCK
‘Nay, bakit kasi tayo ganito? Bakit tayo
dukha?

ROSE
Magdrama-rama? Sa hapon? Hoy! Imbis na
nagmumuryong ka d’yan. Asikasuhin mo ang
mga application mo. Ang passport mo.
Ang pagaabroad mo. Hindi kita iginapang
sa nursing para maging pasyente lang sa
mental!

Rock backs off. He sits on his bed.

Tracy is in her bed, sleeping.

Nick approaches Tracy’s room. He’s been meaning to talk

to her but he doesn’t have the courage to knock on her

door.

Finally, Nick knocks on the door.

NICK
Tracy.

Nobody answers. He turns the door knob and opens the


door. He finds a little girl, a young Tracy in the
bedroom -- playing with dolls, dollhouses and other toys.
The little girl is oblivious to Nick’s presence. Nick
goes inside Tracy’s room.

Nick starts to sing.

Shots of the university belt area scenes.

Still depressed, Rock enters the school grounds to fix

his papers.

Music starts to build up.

Rock starts to sing and dance . He is quickly joined by

his barkada and schoolmates, forming a small group.

Others start to take notice of this “impromptu”

performance.

business. As the crowd disperses, Rock sees Tracy with

her girlfriends walking towards the records section of

Tracy sees him. The girls walk faster. Rock runs after

them.

ROCK (CONT’D)
Tracy, sandali! ‘Wag mo naman ako iwasan.
Mag-usap naman tayo sandali.

TRACY
Sabi ko na nga ba sana bukas na lang ako
pumunta rito!

ROCK
Kausapin mo naman ako, ano ka ba? Please?

TRACY
Ano ba’ng sasabihin mo?

ROCK
Mag-usap lang tayo. (Pauses.) Tayong
dalawa lang.

TRACY
Sige, girls, mauna na kayo.

GIRLFRIEND
Will you be okay?

Tracy nods. The couple is left alone. They walk as they

talk.

ROCK
Tinatawagan kita - hindi ka naman ma-

lahat! Ano ba ang nangyayari sa ‘yo.

TRACY

ROCK

TRACY

some punches and left!

ROCK
Ano ba dapat ang ginawa ko?

TRACY
Dapat pinaglaban mo ko! Hindi mo ginawa.

ROCK
Minaliit ng pamilya mo ang pamilya ko.
Pinagmukha nila kaming basura. Hindi
naman tama ‘yun.

TRACY
That day was more about us than them,
remember?

ROCK
Kung kinaladkad ba kita nung time na ‘yun
sasama ka ba? Hindi rin naman, di ba?
Wala ka namang pinag-iba sa kanila.

TRACY
That is so foul. Inu-understimate mo ko,
Rock. Sosyal ako. High maintenance.
Sheltered, ano pa? Sige, say it! I will

(Puases.) Di ba ang sabi mo, ang gusto mo
makasama ko, makapiling ako, ‘yun ang

Rock is speechless.

TRACY (CONT’D)
Kung wala ka nang sasabihin, tapos na
tayo. Kailangan ko pang kunin ang records
ko. Kakailanganin ko, in case na mag-
decide ako na sa States na mag-aral.

Rock is taken aback.

TRACY (CONT’D)
By the way, doon na rin ako manganganak.
And FYI, wala akong celphone,
kinonfiscate ng mom. Goodbye.

Tracy leaves Rock. Rock out of defeat and confusion, sits

on the floor. From a distance, Brent has been listening

and watching the couple all this time. He approaches Rock

and sits beside him.

Silence.

BRENT
Ano’ng kailangan mo, bro? Pampakalama?
Pampalimot? Pampamanhid?

Rock doesn’t answer. Brent looks at him, consoling.

54 INT. KARAOKE BAR. NIGHT.

Brent and Rock are drinking in a karaoke bar. On stage is

a drunk karoke host barely singing Pumapatak Na Naman ang

Ulan. The two friends have been drinking for some time

now. They are both tipsy.

ROCK
(Rambling on.) ‘Bang klase si Trace, bro.
Tameme ako. ako. Taling taling ang mga
kamay ko, bro. Wala akong pera. Wala
akong trabaho. Wala naman akong magagawa.

BRENT
Ikaw naman kasi ang daming nagkakagusto
sa ‘yo -- kay Tracy ka pa natisod.

ROCK
Wasak ako sa kanya, Bro. Siya ang gusto
ko. Siya lang ang gusto ko.

His phone rings. It’s his mother calling. Rock rejects

the call.

ROCK (CONT’D)
Eto namang mga magulang ko parang masaya
pa na hindi ako maikakasal. Parang mga

BRENT

Rock looks at his friend intently.

Salamat, bro. (Rock puts his arms around
Brent. Brent is flustered.)

The emcee starts to call on the next singer.

Brent stands up. The audience applauds.

Brent goes up the stage.

Rock suddenly pulls away and pukes on the side of the

street from too much drinking. Brent comforts him. In

between vommitting, Rock cries out Tracy’s name.

Move on na, bro. Move on na tayo, bro.

Rock continues puking.

ROCK

BRENT

They continue walking.

ROCK

ganun. Hindi ko masusuklian nang buong

BRENT
(In denial.) Nagdedeliryo ka ba?

Brent is taken aback.

ROCK
Makakahanap ka rin -- ng para sa ‘yo. At
sobrang suwerte ng taong ‘yun. Dahil
napakabait mo.

Brent is touched. His eyes hold back tears.

BRENT
(Now crying.) Baliw!

ROCK
Salamat, Bro. Salamat sa lahat.

BRENT
Lasing ka lang. Uwi na tayo. Malapit na
bahay n’yo.

Rock in all his drunken glory manages to sing.

name. They look at each other, sigh and head for the

master’s bed room.

Tracy sadly packs her things. Her pet dog looks on. She

opens her closet and looks at clothes and stuff she could

bring. A few luggage has been packed already. She clears

her desk and finds a framed photograph of her and Rock.

Her mother passes by and sees her daughter looking

lonely, staring at the photograph. Elaine quietly enters

the room and sits beside her daughter.

ELAINE
Trust me on this.We’re doing the right
thing. It’s for your own good.

Tracy starts to cry.

TRACY
Mom, I’m sorry. I’m sorry if I let you
down.

ELAINE
Wala na tayong magagawa nandyan na ‘yan.

Crates of fruits are loaded on to a truck. Nick

supervises the loading of the harvests. Elaine approaches

Nick.

NICK
(To one of the farm hands.) Na-deliver na
ba yung pesticides? Wala na tayong
supply.

FARM HAND
Mamaya daw po ang delivery.

TRUCK DRIVER
Sir, aalis na po kami.

Nick gives him some money.

NICK
Eto ang pang-gas n’yo.

TRUCK DRIVER
Sige po, sir. Mauna na kami.

The truck leaves. Nick notices his wife waiting for him.

NICK
O, ano’ng ginagawa mo dito? Ang init-

They go under a tree shade.

ELAINE
We’re leaving tomorrow.

NICK
I know pero hindi ko na kayo maihahatid
bukas sa airport. ‘Yung driver na lang.

ELAINE
Bago kami umalis, sana kausapin mo naman
si Tracy. Kawawa naman ang bata.

NICK
Hindi na bata ‘yun. Kung nakagawa sila ng
bata, hindi na sila bata.

ELAINE
Nick naman. Gusto n’yang mag sorry sa ‘yo
pero sobra siyang takot lumapit. Tortured
na tortured na siya. Iyak siya nang iyak.
Sising sisi na ‘yung bata.

NICK
Ano bang gusto mong sabihin ko sa kanya?

girl! (Angrier.) Hindi ko maitago ang

Nick walks away.

Nick stops walking for a moment. His cold facade starts

to crumble but hides it.

ELAINE

Nick continues to walk away.

ELAINE (CONT’D)

62 INT./EXT. FUENTEBELLA HOUSE/TRACY’S ROOM. NIGHT.

Tracy is trying to get some sleep.

She hears some noise coming from her bedroom window. It

is as if someone is throwing pebbles on the glass pane.

She also faintly hears a voice quietly call her name. She

gets up and opens the window. The moon is almost full.

She is extra bright and huge tonight. She sees Rock

outside, on the lawn. Rock is carrying a bag.

ROCK
Tracy.

TRACY
Ano’ng ginagawa mo d’yan?

ROCK
Halika na! Magtatanan tayo.

TRACY
Tanan?

ROCK
Tanan. Elope in English.

Nasisiraan ka na ba talaga ng ulo?

Rock starts to climb the wall.

TRACY (CONT’D)
Baka mahulog ka!

Rock reaches the window sill and sees Tracy has packed

her bags for her US trip. Tracy’s pet dog starts barking.

ROCK
Tamang tama naka empake ka na. Halika na!

TRACY
Paano ka naman naka sigurong sasama ako
sa ‘yo?

ROCK
Bakit ayaw mo ba?

TRACY
Ewan ko.

ROCK
Let’s go!

TRACY

TRACY

Rock and Tracy are in front of a mayor. Some random

strangers act as their witnesses. Buboy the dog looks on

happily.

That same morning.

The whole family is in a huddle. The maids are also

around them. Elaine is distraught. She is busy texting

Tracy’s friends.

Na text ko na lahat ng friends niya.
Hindi nila alam kung nasaan.Saan naman
pupunta ‘yun? Hindi naman ‘yun umaalis ng
walang driver!

Nick holds Elaine’s hand. Nick looks at her. Elaine takes

her hand away from him.

ELAINE

NICK

A group of soldiers march inside the house. They all

Suddenly, Elaine gets a text message. They all look at

The Polotan are also in the same situation. They are

joined by Vicky, Lilibeth and Brent.

Rose is reading a text message from Rock.

Nagpakasal na kami. Sa huwes. Nasa mabuti
kaming kalagayan. Hope you understand.

Same day. Afternoon.

Elaine’s luggage are being loaded in the the van. She

says goodbye to Blake and Austin.

BLAKE
Sama na lang kami, mommy.

ELAINE
Paano kayo sasama? May pasok pa kayo.

AUSTIN
Mom, bakit aalis ka pa?

ELAINE
Anak, mommy just needs to go away for a
while. Don’t worry. I will call you

Elaine gets inside the van. It drives off towards the

gate.

71 EXT. FUENTEBELLA FARM. DAY.

The van passes by the old chapel. A herd of cows cross

the road. The van stops -- it can’t pass through. The

drives honks his horn. The cows, instead of moving,

stops. They just stand there.

ELAINE
Businahan mo nga ‘yang mga ‘yan. Baka
hindi ko maubutan ang flight ko.

The cows move very slowly. As the cows clear the road,

Elaine sees a huge truck blocking the road this time.

ELAINE (CONT’D)
Sino ba ‘yang nakaharang na ‘yan!
Businahan mo nga.

The driver blows the horn. The truck doesn’t move. Out of

frustration, Elaine gets out of the van ready to scold

the driver.

Nick, gets out of the truck, and meets Elaine in the

middle of the road.

ELAINE (CONT’D)
Ano ba? Mahuhuli ako sa flight ko!
Nananadya ka ba?

NICK

and Rose are preparing the catering set-up.

The three friends are hard at work. Rose is especially

The three friends are inside the van. They look so

exhausted from the day’s work.

leaves. She goes inside the house.

The moon is full tonight.

74 INT. POLOTAN HOUSE/ROSE AND POL’S ROOM. NIGHT.

Rose enters the house. She puts down all her stuff. She

checks on her kids who are now asleep. She enters the

master’s bedroom. She finds Pol asleep on his side of the

bed. On her side of the bed, she finds a simple single

rose with a note attached to it. She takes the rose and

reads it: Sa nag-iisa kong inspirasyon. Smile naman

d’yan. Love, P.

Rose is genuinely touched. Pol wakes up.

ROSE

is punctuated by a shot of the full moon. The passage of

time will also be conveyed by Tracy’s ever growing tummy.

Through out the montage we hear Rose’s voice.
