ABSTRACT

ITANONG, HAZIEL KATE S. 2024. “PLACE VALUE FLIP CHART

MANIPULATIVE: ITS EFFECT ON THE MATH PERFORMANCE OF
PUPILS”. Undergraduate Thesis. College of Education. Cotabato Foundation

This study was conducted to determine the effect of Place Value Flip Chart
Manipulative on the math performance of pupils. Research instruments include validated
Pretest-posttest questionnaire that were administered to the grade 2 pupils of Inamong
Elementary School, Sitio Inamong, Datu Ladayon, Arakan, Cotabato. The 8 subjects of
this study were selected purposely and were identified through their performance with a
descripted level of “Did Not Meet Expectations” during the pre-test. The subjects had
undergone interventions in learning place value concepts using place value flip chart
manipulative before the post-test was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the
place value flip chart to the pupils performance in math.
In analyzing the data, Mean, T-test and Eta Squared Analysis were used. The
result revealed that there is a significant difference between the student’s performance
before and after the intervention. Also, the result revealed that Place Value Flip Chart
Manipulative had a high effect on the pupils Math performance which means that using
the said manipulative as an intervention is very significant in improving the performance
of the pupils in learning place value.
In light of the findings, it is recommended to the Mathematics teachers to consider
the use of manipulatives, particularly place value to the pupils for effective hands-on
learning. Also, future researchers may conduct a study that involves the use of digitalized
manipulatives in teaching math.
