As high school students, it is important to start planning for your future and setting yourself up for

success. One way to do this is by completing the A-G requirements for high school.

The A-G requirements are a list of courses that are necessary for admission to the University of
California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. These courses are also highly
recommended for admission to many other colleges and universities.

What are the A-G requirements?

The A-G requirements consist of seven subject areas:

A - History/Social Science
B - English
C - Mathematics
D - Laboratory Science
E - Language Other Than English
F - Visual and Performing Arts
G - College Preparatory Electives

Within each subject area, there are specific courses that meet the A-G requirements. It is important to
check with your high school counselor to make sure you are taking the correct courses.

Why are the A-G requirements important?

Completing the A-G requirements not only prepares you for college, but it also shows colleges that
you are a well-rounded student who is ready for the academic challenges of higher education.

In addition, many scholarships and financial aid opportunities require applicants to have completed
the A-G requirements. By fulfilling these requirements, you are setting yourself up for success not
only in college, but also in your future career.
