Dear Parents,
In the spring of each year, third through eighth grade students take an assessment called the
Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). This assessment measures your child’s progress on
grade-level standards in English/Language Arts (ELA) and in Mathematics. Your child will take
three tests: one ELA test and two Math tests. Below is the testing schedule:

These tests will begin promptly at 9:40. Please make every effort to have your child in
school and on time during these weeks.
These assessments are a very important measure of your child’s growth during this school
year. Teachers have helped your child prepare by reviewing grade-level content and
practicing test-taking skills. Please do all you can to support your child’s performance by
ensuring that he or she independently practices learned concepts by completing homework
each night.
