Using the CMG Hostid Wizard

Introduction
The CMG Hostid Wizard is a standalone utility that is used to determine your computer’s
hostid information. CMG uses this information to create your unique authorization code file.
You can use a number of utilities to report your hostid information, including the CMG
Hostid Wizard and the CMG License Utility, both of which will report identical information.

Downloading
The CMG Hostid Wizard executable and user guide can be downloaded from the CMG
website at cmgl.ca by logging into the User Area. The utility does not require any other
components. Once downloaded, start HostidWizard.exe to open the CMG Hostid Wizard
dialog box:

Program Layout
The wizard dialog box is divided into three sections: Hostids, Licensing Type, and Contact
Information.

Hostids
Hostids are unique to your computer. CMG uses hostids to create your authorization codes,
which can then only be used on this computer. The information is static; i.e., it will not
change if you run the wizard more than once.

Licensing Type
CMG allows you to run your licensing service in one of two ways: As a Network License
Server that other computers can communicate with to use CMG software, or as a Standalone

computer that will allow the software to only run on it. Additionally, a Network License
Server may have a corresponding Failover Server that acts as a backup in case the Network
License Server goes down.
When running the CMG Hostid Wizard, specify the licensing type you want to use for this
computer. If you know the licensing type specified in your CMG contract, select that one. If
you do not know it, or do not yet have a contract with CMG, leave it as Network License
Server.

Customer Information
This information tells CMG who to send the license codes to, and allows us to send codes
based on your contract information. Please fill in all fields—your name, company, address,
and so on. In the Comments field, enter any other pertinent information. If you have more
than one computer needing licenses, for example, enter the specific licenses from your
contract that you need on this particular computer.

Sending us Your Hostid Information

There are three ways for you to send CMG your information. You can create a text file to
send us, or you can directly email it to us.

Email
Emailing the information is the best option. Select Email to open a draft message with your
default email client, and the hostid information attached to it. You can edit the email message
before sending it.

Create Text File

This button saves all of the information as a text file. You can then attach the text file to an
email then send it to CMG at licenses@cmgl.ca. This is best if you want a copy of the text
file for your own records. The file is identical to the one that is created for emailing.

Print
If you would like a hard copy for your records, you can use this button to print out the
information. You can also fax the information to CMG at 403-289-8502.
