1. INSTRUCTIONS

Remote Desktop Viewer is a program for personal computers to connect to drill rigs over a
data network to monitor events in a drill rig’s control system.

The Remote Desktop Viewer communication operates over a WireLess Network (WLAN)
provided by the customer. i.e. Atlas Copco does not deliver any wireless network. The
customer is responsible for the functions and quality of the WLAN.

2. PREREQUISITES
• Supported operating systems:
Windows 2003 Server
Windows XP
Windows 2000 Server
Windows 2000 Professional

3. INSTALL RRA SERVER PROGRAM


• Open this document using Adobe Reader.
• Save the attached Setup.exe.txt file below to desktop.
• Right click on the name to select rename.
• Remove “.txt” from the file name so that it is changed to Setup.exe.
• Double click Setup.exe to install the program.
• Follow the installation wizard, which includes the following interactive steps:
o Setting the installation folder for the program
o Setting the data root for the application. This is where the rigs file structure will
be copied.

4. CCI MODULE AND DISPLAY / GUI INFORMATION


• Verify if CCI module “Module Status” LED flashes green 1 Hz.

• Verify CCI Module on display screen M1.1.
• If CCI/D700 is green, the communication is ok.
• If CCI/D700 is red, the computer has lost communication. Click the module
button and see the message. If it is version mis-match, reload the program.
Otherwise, check cable and other hardware connections.

5. NETWORK CONNECTION CONFIGURATION


1. Locate laptop IP address.

• Turn on the laptop computer and locate the laptop IP address at the top right corner of
the screen.

Note: This IP address screen shot is for reference only. The IP address may vary.

2. Configure CCI IP address on display.

• Log into rig display. Select System, then Administration to go to screen M1.4.
• Click “IP configuration” button on the GUI to go to “IP configuration” screen.

• Click CCI IP address box and change it to laptop IP address with the last entry
one digit different from the last entry of laptop IP address.

For example, if the laptop IP address is 169.254.120.32, make CCI IP address


as 169.254.120.33. (These numbers are for reference only.)

• After change CCI IP address, turn off display and turn it back on to make the
change effective. Go to screen M1.4 to verify CCI IP address is updated.

3. Rig list configure:

• Locate “Rigs.txt” from C:\Program Files\Atlas Copco\Remote Display.


• Double click “Rigs.txt” to open it. This file holds information about which rigs
the user will be able to connect to.
• Add a new rig by inserting it between “***RIG LIST START***” and “***RIG
LIST END***” in the format alias;ip-address.

Alias is the rig name visible to the user. For example: for rig S/N 4614, alias can
4614. IP address is CCI IP address. i.e. 169.254.120.33. The new line inserted
should be: 4614; 169.254.120.33.

6. RUNNING REMOTE DESKTOP VIEWER APPLICATION

• Start the application by selecting “Remote Display” from your start menu. By default this
path is: “Start -> All Program -> Atlas Copco -> Remote Display->Remote Display”.
You can also stat the application by double-clicking the “Remote Display” icon on the
desktop.

• When the application is started the first step is to connect to a rig. Select “File-
>Connect…”

• In the connect dialog box enter a valid User name and password and select the rig you
want to connect to from the drop down list box.
(Enter Username as “admin”, Password as “atlas1”)

Note: The user name and password are only used to verify connection to the rig.

7. CONNECTING TO A RIG
When you are connected to a rig, you can see the operator’s user interface. You can navigate
in the control system menus as if you were on the rig and view events in real time, but you
cannot control the rig or change nay settings.

Navigation takes place by means of the keyboard’s arrow keys in the same way as on the rig.
Certain actions can be performed with the mouse, but using the mouse to navigate in the
menus is not recommended.

8. DISCONNECTING FROM A RIG

Select “File -> Disconnect” to disconnect from the rig or “File -> Exit”, which will
disconnect before closing the application.

9. CONNECTION PROBLEMS
The program will pop up error messages if connection problems occur.

• Invalid user name or password


Enter wrong user name or password causes invalid user name or password error.

• Communication error
Verify that the rig is on-line and that the ip-address entered in the configuration file is
correct.

• Too many users
The number of users connected has already reached its maximum. Currently only two
people could connect to one machine.
