1 Introduction
Table 2: Warnings
Symbol Description
Warning
A warning is a statement that alerts the user to the possibility of a system
failure, business problem, damaged data or other serious adverse reactions
associated with the use of the software.
Caution
A caution is a statement that alerts the user to the possibility of a business
problem or processing issues. It brings up an issue that the user would better
pay attention to, even if it’s not a system critical matter.
Note
A note is a helpful hint, sometimes a tip, to help the user work more efficient-
ly. Without a note, a user may lose precious time and get frustrated while
trying to understand why something is not working.
The accomplishment of challenges by the APO is a cross-departmental procedure with central responsibility.
They actively involve all the necessary, organisational units in the company, mainly the product specialists
and processing units. Our customers also benefit from the dedicated Single Point of Contact (SPOC)
available on request and thus the communication and integration of external support organisations. Some
of the specified product manufacturers and partners of HICO are, for example, PTC Parametric Technology
Corporation and Tridion B.V.
Highly-motivated, qualified and certified employees ensure the services of the APO, and thus make sure that
the products that are used by customers have a maximum of security and quality.
− ALPHA: A software version which was released by the product management for integration testing in
defined customer projects, which supports the development of standard products. The ALPHA software
version may not have the whole functionality according to the requirement definition.
− BETA: Issued for integration testing analogous to ALPHA, however with an advanced software version.
In BETA, the software must have necessarily the whole functionality of the software according to the
requirement definition.
− RTO (Ready to OEM or collaboration partners): Basically this software includes the full range of
functions and is equated with "FINAL" from a QA perspective and allowed for production use. "RTO" is
particularly used when new modules and features were developed for an OEM or defined collaboration
partners, which have to be tested intensively before the market release. The RTO cycle may result in
the decision not to share custom modules or specific functional groups in the "market release" (market
release of a defined software version).
− FINAL: Issue of a defined software version ("market release") for all customers of HICO with a valid and
upright software maintenance contract.
The functionality for "anonymous login" has been changed in HICO X-Browser®
9.0.0.
Now - with the possibility of "anonymous login" - the application is always
logged in with the current operating system user. Details about the new
configuration during installation can be found in the installation manual.
The HICO X-Browser® 9.0.0 should be used with HICO DeMoS v3.1.0 (or higher).
The connection to a HICO DeMoS v2.0.0 is basically possible, but does not have all
the functionalities supported by the HICO X-Browser® 9.0.0.
Connection to HICO DeMoS v1.0.0 is not supported.
The HICO X-Browser® 8.0.0 should be used with HICO DeMoS v2.0.0 (or higher).
The connection to a HICO DeMoS v1.0.0 is basically possible, but does not have all
the functionalities supported by the HICO X-Browser® 8.0.0.
1.6.2 Adaptions
For version 9.3.0 or lower there are no adaptions to the HICO X-Browser®.
For version 9.3.0 and lower, no third-party products are directly integrated in the HICO
X-Browser®.
2 Functional enhancements
Referenz Beschreibung
XBR-1700 Additional technical information and accompanying information can now be opened in a
new browser tab.
XBR-1754 Sorting of the packages in the tile view by title and creation date.
XBR-1765 Check the available hard disk space before downloading a loaddata package.
XBR-1797 Extension of the HICO X-Browser® external interface to directly activate a specific task
list in a structure.
XBR-1808 Optimization of the navigation between data modules of different structure views.
XBR-1817 Added visualization of release notes for a loaddata package during import.
XBR-1832 Added parameters “maintenanceplan” and “tasklist” to the external interface of the
HICO X-Browser®.
Referenz Beschreibung
XBR-1705 The "QR Code Scanner" button is now displayed in the Dashboard by default.
The functionality itself was already available in previous versions of the application, but
from this version onwards also corresponding LoadData packages can be created. This
means that the function can be used productively by all customers.
XBR-1691 The display of the file size is now differentiated according to the language settings of
the user (different decimal separators).
XBR-1677 The "Password" input field for the connection to HICO DeMoS has been extended to
allow all "Special Characters" to be used as password characters.
XBR-1673 The help for the HICO X-Browser is now also provided in HTML format and installed
with the setup by default.
XBR-1672 The list of users and their attributes can be exported to Excel and PDF.
XBR-1657
XBR-1627 The values for the "Applicability" settings will be stored for each publication and user.
When the publication is viewed again, the settings from the last view of this publications
will be automatically restored and re-used.
XBR-1626 The user preferences now include an option for whether or not to display change
markings.
This option is activated by default and the change markings are highlighted in a differ-
ent color as before.
XBR-1624 The search parameters entered by the user in text fields are now remembered. Each
user can access his latest 10 search queries in the corresponding text fields and does
not have to re-type them.
XBR-1597 The existing "breadcrumb" navigation has been extended so that the entries now also
reach down to data module level. If there is not enough space to display the entire
breadcrumb navigation, the middle entries are grouped together into a "...".
XCP-1048 The text about HICO-ICS GmbH on the "Support" and "Imprint" pages have been
adapted.
XCP-1015 The handling of images that do not match the expected aspect ratio of the icon has
been improved.
Referenz Beschreibung
XCP-1012 TaskSet: A click on a TaskSet entry in the overview list now leads to the content and
not to editing the corresponding TaskSet entry.
XCP-994 The Support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 has been removed
XCP-959 The button to confirm entries in the dashboard now shows the text "Apply" instead of
"Save".
The reason for this is that this action actually only transfers the element to the dash-
board and does not yet save it. The "Save" of the entire (changed) dashboard must be
done separately using the corresponding button.
XCP-956 The change request overview list now also includes a filter for "exported" and "non-ex-
ported" change requests.
XCP-954 It is now possible to add favorites to data modules in historical (=non current) versions.
When calling the corresponding favorite, the user is then directed to the data module in
exactly the selected version of the publication
XCP-927 In the HICO iPS.Suite, unstructured content can be entered for a publication in addition
to the revised pages. Any document inserted there is now also exported and can be
displayed in the application using the corresponding button.
XCP-924 Starting with this release, automatic processes are executed by a newly introduced
"system user".
This extension became necessary because the introduced "enhanced logging" also
includes the executing user. Thus, also system processes had to be initiated by a
"system user" that exists within the application.
XCP-723 With the HICO X-Browser v9.2.0 the possibility to "redline" text passages has been
introduced.
This functionality has been extended in the current version. It is now also possible
to view stated annotation though an overlay with will pop-up when the mouse hovers
over the annotated text. If the overlay is not preferred, the user can deactivate it in his
personal settings.
XCP-708 The HICO X-Browser offers from this version onwards the possibility to individually
parametrize the time interval for recurring or background processes. Currently, the
following functionalities are affected
− synchronization with the HICO DeMoS
− the synchronization with the LDAP system
− the CleanUp Task and
− all future available processes
The configuration options themselves are described with the corresponding processes.
This extension became necessary as with the rise of the processed data volumes a
uniform interval could not be used any longer.
Reference Description
XBR-1637 The tooltips in the application were aligned between the languages and generally
extended.
XBR-1662 The currently logged actions were extended to include additional types. In addition,
access to the individual data modules is now also logged and not just the access to the
XBR-1621 entire publication.
XBR-1620 The administrator has now the possibility to view the logged actions in an overview list
XBR-1618 and filter them accordingly
Furthermore, there is also the possibility to export entries. These entries can then either
be downloaded as a ZIP file or synchronized with a connected HICO DeMoS. It is also
possible to retrieve entries from another application via the API.
XBR-1617 In ConfigCenter it is now possible to define the level from which a confirmation of
"Warnings" and "Cautions" should take place.
XBR-1614 Since there are now several user-specific settings in the application, a "Reset to Default
Settings" has been implemented. This resets all user-specific settings to the predefined
"DefaultUserSettings".
XBR-1576 The user now has the possibility to enter explicitly "private" and "public" notes.
XBR-1596 If only one content language is available in a LoadData package, the language change
button will be hidden immediately.
XBR-1595 The setting option for "Applicability" has been moved to the main menu bar to provide a
more comfortable access for the user.
XBR-1583 Change requests: Optimizations for presentation and creation, so that more space is
available for the content to be created.
XBR-1582
The maximum number of possible characters in each field has been increased.
XBR-1581 Change requests: The display of the list of all change requests has been optimized
(number and width of columns, display of extra-long text as tooltip, ...)
XBR-1580 Notes: The display of the notes list has been optimized (number and width of columns;
display of extra long text as tooltip, ...)
XBR-1579 The shopping cart now opens as a dialog instead of a separate tab.
Reference Description
XBR-1555 The currently existing "Add Favourites" and "Remove Favourites" buttons have been
converted to a toggle button.
XBR-1544 Similar to the view in the HICO X-ContentPortal®, publications can now also be dis-
played as a list in the HICO X-Browser.
The application has been enhanced to automatically detect supported, partially suppor-
XCP-910 ted and unsupported Internet browsers and to notify the user accordingly.
Existing favorites can also be edited, moved and deleted via the dashboard.
XCP-896
ConfigCenter: The ConfigCenter texts have been extended by a "multi-language func-
XCP-895 tionality". This means that ConfigCenter texts can now be entered in any language. By
default, the current version includes the texts in "German" and "English".
ConfigCenter: When entering an "https" URL, the ConfigCenter now automatically of-
XCP-894 fers the option to select an SSL certificate available on the system. This simplifies the
XCP-911 step that previously had to be performed manually.
Starting from this version, the user can choose in his settings whether a search result
XCP-889 list is always opened in the current window or in a new tab by default.
Referenz Beschreibung
XBR-1523 The HICO X-ContentPortal now offers the possibility to access external applications
directly via an integrated menu. The external application opens in a separate tab and
XBR-1524 allows the user to quickly change to predefined complementary applications (e.g.:
Maintenance System, Fault Isolation System, internal Wiki, ...) without the need to
leave the HICO X-ContentPortal.
The external applications that shall be available can be defined globally in a separate
section. The entries will be visible to all users of the application.
XBR-1407 When confirming a mandatory ATI, the list is now positioned in a way that the selected
entry is highlighted and visible. This means that the user no longer has to scroll man-
ually to the selected entry, if it is not visible in the initial section. .
XBR-1399 The visibility of the search selection button (with the default text "aAa") has been
checked and improved in all available "Themes".
XBR-1376 The content of notes and change requests has been added to the search index. There-
fore, search results will now also generate hits if the searched term is available within
notes and change requests.
The user interface has been extended in order to allow the user to restrict search hits to
occur if the searched term is only available within notes or change requests.
XBR-1365 If there are "Revised Pages" in the underlying LoadData package, they can now be
transported and retrieved through the application. Depending on the underlying file
type, the document is either opened in a new tab or downloaded as a file.
XBR-1334 The search now starts for all available search fields directly after entering a value and
pressing the "Enter" key. Until now, this behaviour was only implemented for specific
search fields.
XBR-1329 The name of a "Custom View" is now translated to the appropriate language when the
user changes the content language.
XBR-1311 Additional redlining features are available for graphics. In addition to the existing func-
tionalities, the highlighting can now also be done using rectangles, ellipses or arrows.
Furthermore, it is also possible to add additional text directly in the graphic
XBR-1314 It is now possible to view a full list of all existing change requests inside the application.
This list can be filtered according to various criteria (e.g. project, package, status, ...) in
order to narrow down what is important to the user.
Found change requests can be viewed or edited directly from within the list.
Referenz Beschreibung
XBR-1309 From this version onwards, "change request packages" can be imported.
This enables the data exchange of change requests with the underlying HICO iLS.Suite
system without the need to create a completely new LoadData package.
For details see also the corresponding HICO iLS.Suite feature IS-9631.
XBR-1110 From this version onwards, created notes will be stored and shown depending on the
selected content language.
STYLE-2514 The generated "startpage" now also contains information on the export classifications
contained in the publication. If documents with an export classification are included, the
STYLE-2239 corresponding categories are displayed on the start page.
With the current version of the HICO X-Browsers it is no longer possible to download
LoadData packages from HICO DeMoS v1.0.
Connections to HICO DeMoS v2.0 are basically possible, but do not support the full
range of features of the HICO X-Browsers v8.0.
Due to these extensions, it must be checked for existing installations of the HICO
X-Browser whether group authorizations must be reconfigured within the application.
Otherwise, it is possible that users with the existing authorizations may no longer see
classified publications.
Reference Description
XBR-1286 Option for a "permanent" confirmation of ATIs (instead of the current confirmation per
started session)
XBR-1219 ConfigCenter: Starting with this version, the historical states of LoadData packages can
be limited using the "MaxPackageFileCount" option. The default setting is "2".
Reference Description
XBR-1145 Clicking with the middle mouse button on a link in the content now opens the HICO
X-Browser again instead of just opening a view of the clicked data module
XBR-1189 DeMoS: Extension of the available rights by "Install DeMoS packages". Now "Non-ad-
ministrators" with this right can also install DeMoS packages.
XBR-1236 The search results list can now also be opened as a "separate tab".
XBR-1249
XBR-1262 The option "Show all" for filtering displayed entries in 3D IPD tables can now be
configured via the user settings.
XBR-1296 DeMoS: As of this version of the HICO X-Browser, the connected HICO DeMoS system
is verified. If this is not compatible, a connection is no longer possible.
XBR-1262 The option "Show chapter numbers" can now be configured via the user settings.
XBR-1098 All available data are now displayed in the administration area for the "PackageDetail".
XBR-1164 Also the "Anonymous User" may change his user settings from this version on.
XBR-1165 There were optimizations during import/save of LoadData packages. This now con-
sumes up to 30% less disk space per LoadData package stored.
XBR-1166 The "Settings" dialog has been adapted to the higher number of setting options.
XBR-1188 ConfigCenter: The configuration of the "DeMoS LoginClients" has been optimized so
that less user input is required.
XBR-1214 DeMoS: Only LoadData packages corresponding to the target system "XBROWSER"
are downloaded.
XBR-1260 DeMoS: Optimizations for displaying connection errors and corresponding error mes-
sages in the notification area.
XBR-1295 Increase the possible session lifetime. As of this version, a maximum session lifetime of
8 hours can be set.
Reference Description
XBR-1303 The number of visible notifications is now limited. With more than 2 notifications the
message "New unconfirmed messages" appears with a link to open the Messages
dialog.
XBR-1321 DeMoS: The possible connection to different DeMoS servers has been improved to
prevent possible errors.
XBR-1351 The image height and width for "customer-specific logos" was limited to the values
required by the application.
XBR-936 "Custom Views" can now only be created on the basis of normal structures.
XBR-1130 In the DeMoS dashboard, a link is now only created in the "Package" field if there is a
corresponding destination.
XBR-1154 DeMoS: The "Test" button now returns current results and not the values from the last
synchronization.
Reference Description
XBR-1121 The available “Release Notes” are now also displayed in the publication overview and
in the administration area of the packages themselves.
XBR-1115 Improvement of the Browser title for “Administration” => “Help”
XBR-1114 The lists in the administration area have been enhanced by the sortability.
XBR-1102 When deleting a “LoadData package” all associated notes and change requests are
now also deleted.
XBR-1084 DeMoS integration: Sensitive information within the configuration files is now encryp-
ted.
XBR-1078 Shopping cart: Alignment of abbreviations to the S1000D abbreviations.
XBR-1077 DeMoS integration: The information, if a LoadData package is “outdated”, is now refer-
red from the underlying DeMoS system and no longer calculated autonomously.
XBR-1074 DeMoS Integration: With the available "LoadData packages" it is now possible to view
the corresponding "Release Notes".
XBR-1071 Improvements when highlighting search results. The algorithm now also considers the
search mode ("within","starts with","ends with",...)
XBR-1070 DeMoS integration: If a package is “outdated” and if it is possible to download further
packages, is now checked immediately after the download.
XBR-1045 The "chapter number" is now also saved for newly entered change requests.
XBR-1044 Improved display and export of change requests. In addition, validation is now also
performed against a defined XML schema.
XBR-1035 ConfigCenter: Improvements in the possibility of configuration. Previously, all paths had
to be entered separately and kept manually consistent. Now the detailed configuration
can be omitted by specifying a "base path".
XBR-1034 Optimization of the "Info" messages: unnecessary recurring information is no longer
displayed.
XBR-1034 Advanced search: Improvements in the readability of individual columns
XBR-1030 DeMoS integration: The specification of the "operating system" was adjusted so that it
is now the same for all HICO products.
With this integration it is possible to distribute HICO X-Browser® packages directly via a network connection
(i.e. the internet or the intranet) to individual installations of the HICO X-Browser®.
HICO DeMoS® is a stand-alone product of the HICO product portfolio and therefore requires a separate
licence.
Reference Description
XBR-971 The check of the revision data when uploading an update package has been en-
hanced. Thus is should be ensured that forbidden combinations can become active for
packages.
XBR-968 SETUP: The PDF documentation of the HICO X-Browser® is now also installed locally
on the hard disk.
XBR-580 Search indexing was optimised. Contents which are not relevant are no longer indexed.
XBR-957 HICO DeMoS®: When using the HICO DeMoS® an automated check is performed,
if newer versions are available for the currently available documentation packages.
In this case, the user gets a visual display to be able to plan or do the appropriate
updates.
XBR-951 HICO DeMoS®: When using the HICO DeMoS® an automated check is performed, if
the currently installed package actually is the current version. If this is not the case, the
user gets a visual warning to display, that he works with old documents.
XBR-984 HICO DeMoS®: When using the HICO DeMoS® an automated transaction of the
currently available packages and installed versions is performed.
XBR-984 HICO DeMoS®: When using the HICO DeMoS® a transaction of all created change
requests to the HiCo DeMoS® is possible. Thus all change requests can be transferred
directly to the manufacturer.
XBR-1003 The export of the shopping list in “CSV” format was enhanced.
Reference Description
ConfigCenter: The option “CheckDocumentHash” can now also be configured in the
XBR-798 ConfigCenter.
Window overlapping hotspot highlighting i.e. activated hotspots in a window/tab (e.g.
XBR-760 in the IPD table) are also activated in other tabs/windows (e.g. stand-alone illustration
view).
Export of the shopping list for Excel (CSV)
XBR-747
The material search is now also available within the publication.
XBR-746
Enhanced user settings: It is possible to configure via the user settings if empty col-
XBR-744 umns in tables are hidden.
The MIME type verification to identify external file formats was improved (uppercase,
XBR-735 lowercase and camelcase checks).
Enhanced user settings: It is possible to define the default behaviour (collapsed/ expan-
XBR-722 ded) for the ”Preliminary Requirements”-section and for “References”.
Re-import of change requests: Change requests which exist in the import package are
XBR-707 now also imported and displayed at the corresponding data modules.
Reference Description
XBR-706 The states which are logged in the application (synchronisation state, uploaded publi-
cation versions) and actions (accepted ATIs) are stored in the same format as in the
HICO X-Browser® v5.x.
Thus it is also possible to re-import log files into the HiCO iLS.Suite®.
Improvements of the favorite-tile (display, layout adjustment to the other tiles).
XBR-686
Change requests: The treatment of transferred change request has been improved.
XBR-680 Functions, which are not relevant, are deactivated previously or the functionality is
restricted (“preview” instead of “edit”), so that afterwards no error messages must be
output to the end user.
The exported change requests now contain additional information, which allow an
XBR-666 assignment of the change comments to the corresponding data modules. Furthermore
these are recognized during import into the HICO iLS:Suite®.
In the navigation tree there are tooltips available for all which show basic information
XBR-654 such as DMC code, TechName and InfoName of the current node.
XBR-620 For the preview of a publication also a “fullscreen”-mode exists now which hides the
header and footer and thus creates more space for the content.
An appropriate default setting (show publications always in “Fullscreen mode”: Yes/No)
is available in the user settings.
Improvements in the search result list: Display and restriction possibilities to “Views”
XBR-537 (publication-view, SNS-view, system-View).
XBR-430 Enhancement of the shopping cart by the "Catalog Sequence Number (CSN)".

XBR-1751 Chapter numbers were displayed in the generated overview pages, although they have
been deactivated in the HICO X-Browser® user settings.
XBR-1761 The scroll position of additional technical information has been persisted. This was ot
correct since the entry point of an additional technical information should always start at
the beginning of the document.
XBR-1773 When deleting the process runs in the HICO X-Browser®, the associated process logs
are not removed from the HICO X-Browser® storage.

incorrect. These were only displayed correctly after a reload.

the transfer to the LDAP system and thus the password comparison failed.
XCP-995 Active dialogs were sometimes closed when activities were performed outside the
dialog, even though the action was not actually finished by the user.
