- Chronos is the time we

- Kairos is the Lord’s time. It is God’s special time.

What is Catholic Liturgical Calendar?


The Catholic Liturgical Calendar is the cycle of seasons in the Roman Rite of the Catholic
Church.

It helps us celebrate the life, death,and resurrection of Jesus


This is called the Paschal Mystery.

The Feast of Christ the King is on the Sunday that falls between 20 and 26 November.
- This year, Christ the King falls on November 26
On November 26, 2023, all will be celebrating the Solemnity of Christ the King. It is a solemnity
because it is given the highest importance.

Christ the King is a title of Jesus based on several passages of Scripture

Revolution.

Note the French words 'Dieu Le Roi' beneath the heart-and-cross, meaning 'God (is) the king’.

Pope Pius XI instituted the feast of Christ the King in 1925.

- Pope Benedict XVI has remarked that Christ’s kingship is not based on "human power" but on
loving and serving others.

- The perfect exemplar of that acceptance, he pointed out, is the Virgin Mary.

- Her humble and unconditional acceptance of God's will in her life, the Pope noted, was the
reason that "God exalted her over all other creatures, and Christ crowned her Queen of
heaven and earth.“

ADVENT SEASON
WHAT IS ADVENT?
The word Advent comes from the Latin word “Adventus” and means “Coming”
It is associated with the four weeks of preparation before Christmas
During the four weeks of Advent, the Church invites us to prepare to welcome Jesus at
Christmas.

ADVENT OR ADVENT CALENDAR


Is a calendar that counts down to the “arrival” of Jesus Christ into the world, which celebrated
on December 25th

THREE IMPORTANT PARTS IN THE


PASSAGE.
The Coming of the Son of Man
Delaying of the Son of Man
Weeping and grinding of teeth
for the unprepared.

WHEN DOES ADVENT BEGIN?


The season of Advents begins four Sundays before December 25th or Christmas Day.

The earliest Advent can begin is November 27 and latest is December 3. Advent ends on
December 24th before the vigil of Christmas.

The Vigil of Christmas begins at evening prayer I later that day.

WHAT IS THE LITURGICAL COLOR OF


ADVENT?
The Liturgical Color of Advent is purple.
The color purple highlights the penitential character of the season of Advent.
Penitential practices-a drastic change of direction of our whole lives toward God's kingdom.

WHAT IS THE SPIRIT OF ADVENT?


Advent is a season of expectation, preparation,and penance.

WHAT IS THE ADVENT WREATH?


The Advent wreath is the Liturgical symbol of Advent.
It is composed of Four candles three purple and one pink.
- The color purple is a penitential color
- The color pink is a rejoice color.
Each Sunday during Advent a purple candle is lit with the exception of the third Sunday of
Advent when a pink candle is lit on Gaudete Sunday or Rejoice Sunday.

ORIGIN OF THE ADVENT WREATH


Germanic people even before the Advent of Christianity. Wreaths were gathered and fire lighted
as a sign of hope in the coming of spring.

Christians kept these folkloric traditions alive, and by the 16th century Catholics
throughout Germany (western church)

Week 1- Hope and purple


Week 2 - Faith and purple
Week 3 - Joy and pink (Guandete means to rejoice in latin)
Week 4 - Peace and purple
