1. Make a reaction paper on the leagues of local government units and their contributions in public
administration.

Leagues of local government units is also called local government in the Philippines. It is divided
into three levels- provinces and independent cities; component cities and municipalities; and barangays.
Provinces and independent cities are organized into national government regions but those are
administrative regions and not separately governed areas with their own elected governments. Below
municipalities and barangays are sitios and puroks. All of these, with the exception of sitios and puroks,
elect their own purok leader. This leagues of local government unit aimed to provide for a more
responsive and accountable local government structure instituted trough a system of decentralization
with effective mechanisms of recall, initiative, and referendum, allocate among the different local
government units powers, responsibilities, resources, provide for the qualifications, election,
appointment and removal, term, salaries, powers, functions, and duties of local officials. Local
government units are under control and supervision of the Department of the Interior and Local
Government.

Moreover, the contributions of leagues of local governments are delivering a broad range of
services in relation to roads; traffic; planning; housing; economic and community development;
environment; recreation; and amenity services; fire services and maintaining the register of electors.
