The provided short film from a YouTube clip entitled ‘’An Award winning short film about Gender Equality’’
has the aim to expose and emphasize the double standards involving men and women in society. The 3
minute film highlighted Article 15 of the Indian Constitution or the ‘Prohibition of discrimination on grounds
of gender’. This analysis will take a closer look about the short film and its approach in conveying the intent
of the given film.
Firstly, the film's central focus on double standards against men and women is a significant aspect. By
highlighting specific instances where double standards exist, the film aims to create awareness and
provoke discussions around gender inequality. However, it is important to ensure that the film maintains a
balanced perspective and acknowledges that gender inequality affects individuals in diverse ways which
depends on the context like how this issue was encountered inside a bus. Secondly, in providing a
comprehensive understanding of double standards, the film should have emphasized the underlying
societal, cultural, and historical factors that contribute to their existence. Thirdly, the importance of a clear
message in line with what the film needs to portray. With this, the short film should promote understanding,
awareness, and an eye opener emphasizing that unity in diverse genders would benefit everyone.
Moreover, the emphasis on the obvious double standards and inequalities on both men and women’s rights
may be evident. The mastermind of the film should have administered realistic solutions and strategies to
eradicate the same old issue. Hence, it could include the emphasis on the need for gender awareness at
home, to encourage advocating for greatness and equality. Proposing possible solutions to break the
selectiveness that would help empower all the viewers to take initiative and serious action against gender
inequality and discrimination.
The 3 minute short film has given a concrete and relevant example on how inequality happens everywhere
and anytime. The need to also consider the historical, cultural and societal situations is very important. By
doing so, the film can open a discussion to a more clear understanding of gender inequality and initiate the
start of a more equally accepting and interactive society.
