adhere the workplace environment to throughout the work
Identify of hand tools
Identify of power tools
Determine Power sources of power tools
Both hand tools and power tools have their own advantages and disadvantages. Hand tools are
generally more portable and versatile, as they do not require a power source. They are also often
more affordable and easier to maintain. However, they may require more physical effort to use
and may not be as efficient for certain tasks.
Power tools, on the other hand, offer greater speed and power, making them ideal for tasks that
require a lot of force or precision. They can also save a lot of time and effort, especially for
larger projects. However, power tools are typically more expensive and require a power source,
which may limit their portability and versatility.
Fish tape: a tool for pulling wires or cables through conduits and inaccessible spaces. A fish tape
is a very long metal strip with a hook at the end, which can be used to grab a wire or another fish
tape, somewhat like catching fish with a hook on a line.
Hacksaw: a fine-tooth hand saw with a blade held under tension in a frame, used for cutting
materials such as metal or plastics.

Insulation: the material that surrounds the bare conductors.
Lineman pliers: a type of pliers used by electricians and other tradespeople primarily for
gripping, twisting, bending, and cutting wire and cable.

The stubby screwdriver is available in all sizes of slot, Robertson®, and Phillips® tips. The
blade and handle are very short.
Furthermore, the wire stripper is another important power tool used in electrical installations.
This tool is designed to remove the insulation from electrical wires, allowing for proper
connections to be made. Wire strippers come in different sizes to accommodate various wire
gauges, ensuring precise and clean stripping. And also, the power saw is a valuable tool for
cutting through different materials, such as wood, plastic, and metal. Electricians often use
power saws to create openings for electrical boxes or to cut conduit and pipes. With the ability to
make precise cuts quickly, power saws greatly enhance the efficiency of electrical installations.
power tools play a crucial role in electrical installations. From power drills for drilling holes,
wire strippers for removing insulation, to power saws for cutting materials, these tools enable
electricians to work efficiently and accurately. Having the right power tools is essential for
successful electrical installation projects.
Power drill: Used for drilling holes in various materials such as wood, metal, and
concrete. A drill is a power tool that uses a rotating drill bit. It is used to create holes in
various materials, such as wood, metal, and plastic. Drills are commonly used in
Circular saw: Used for cutting straight lines in wood, plywood, and other materials. The
primary function of power saws is to cut lumber, metal, plastics, and ceramics to length.
These tools rely on motors or engines and a blade to cut and shape the material. AC-
powered saws have various power outputs but are restricted to a set distance from a
power source.
Reciprocating saw: Used for cutting through various materials, including wood, metal,
and plastic. Outside of demolition and remodeling, a reciprocating saw can be used for
sawing through nails, metal sheeting, and pipes. They are also used for more specialist
jobs such as cutting concrete, stone, ceramic tile and even glass.
Jigsaw: Used for making curved cuts and intricate shapes in wood, metal, and other
materials Jigsaws are best used for cutting shapes and curves in wood. However, you can
also cut metal, laminate, tile and other materials with them. When choosing a jigsaw
blade, pay attention to the teeth per inch or TPI. The TPI tells you how many teeth are on
the saw blade
Figure 17 Jigsaw
Angle grinder: An angle grinder is a handheld power tool that can be used for a variety
of metal fabrication jobs that include cutting, grinding, deburring, finishing and
polishing. The most common types of angle grinder tools are powered by electricity;
either corded or battery powered. Used for cutting, grinding, and polishing metal and
other materials.
Impact driver: Used for driving screws and fasteners with high torque and efficiency.
Like the cordless drill, an impact driver uses rotational force to drive a screw and saves
its bursts of quick power when it feels resistance. You would use an impact driver for
long screws or large fasteners when working with wood. An impact driver is also lighter
than the hammer drill, making it easier to handle.
Heat gun: Heat guns are also used to make plastics such as PVC piping pliable for the
purposes of bending, to soften wax and adhesives such as that used in electronics, and to
thaw out frozen copper pipes. and heating and shrinking heat shrink tubing and other
materials.
Cable puller: Used for pulling electrical cables through conduits and tight spaces.
Battery: Battery-powered tools, also known as cordless tools, are becoming increasingly popular
due to their portability and convenience. These tools are powered by rechargeable batteries,
eliminating the need for cords and providing greater flexibility and mobility. Cordless tools are
ideal for working in remote or outdoor locations where electricity may not be readily available.
They offer freedom of movement and ease of use. However, battery-powered tools have limited
run time, requiring recharging or battery replacement. Additionally, they may have slightly less
power compared to their corded counterparts.
Pneumatic: Pneumatic or air-powered tools use compressed air as their energy source. These
tools are connected to an air compressor through a hose. Pneumatic tools are known for their
high power and durability, making them ideal for heavy-duty applications.

Wire cutter: Used for cutting as well as stripping wires.
Figure 26 Ladder
Drill bits: Coring drill bits can be used with masonry, brick, wet concrete, concrete, concrete blocks and
more depending on tip type. These are useful for heavy-duty building projects. Coring drill bits are often
used with a rotary hammer and impact tools. This is usually the best drill bit for concrete work.
Wall plugs: A wall plug (UK English), also known as an anchor (US) or "Rawlplug" (UK), is a
fibre or plastic (originally wood) insert used to enable the attachment of a screw in material that
is porous or brittle or that would otherwise not support the weight of the object attached with the
screw.
Regular Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and inspections of your power tools to
ensure they remain in good working condition. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and replacing
any damaged or worn-out parts as necessary. Refer to the tool's manual for manufacturer-
recommended maintenance guidelines. By following these guidelines and practicing safety-
conscious behavior, you can effectively and safely use power tools for various applications.
Remember, always prioritize safety and exercise caution when working with power tools. When
in doubt or facing unfamiliar situations, consult professionals or experienced individuals for
guidance.
Soldering Iron: Soldering is a technique used to connect different types of pieces. Usually, it is
used for making connections to electrical/electronic circuits. The tools which are required for
soldering are soldering iron, de-soldering pump, holder, and soldering wire. Following points
should be kept in mind when picking up soldering tools:
The wattage of soldering iron must be checked according to the type of circuit in which it
will be used.
The soldering iron should not take a lot of time to heat up.
Disordering pump should be able to remove soldering quickly and easily.
Holder must withstand the weight of soldering iron
Drill Machine: Drill machines are two types – a hand drill while the other is a bench drill
machine. These are used for camera mounting and also installing cable in conduits.
Electric portable drill: it is a tool used for making holes in metallic sheets or other surfaces. In
electrical systems, it is used during the construction of various electrical equipment. It is driven
by an electric motor. to consider the following points before selecting a drill:
There should be a wide range of speeds for drill.
