Task 1: To learn a language successfully, people need to go to the country where the language
is spoken. What is your opinion?

Many people said that to learn a language successfully, they need to go to the country where the
language is spoken. Despite the theoretical benefits of this proposal, it cannot be accepted. The
following essay takes a look at both sides of the argument.

Firstly, it can be understood why learning a language by going to a foreign country where it is
spoken is better than learning in school, we can speak with them, have an environment which
only speaks that language. That’s why many universities hire many teachers in that country to
teach language, for example, FPT University, HUST, NEU, or another university. If we have
enough money, we can go anywhere in the world and learn the language everywhere and we will
be an interpreter in the future. Furthermore, we can improve our language faster than other
students who learn in their country.

However, if we don’t have enough money, we can’t learn that language, unless we are supported
by scholarships it might be quite difficult and not everyone can get it easily. We realize that
learning by going to a foreign country is not necessary. Instead of going to the country where the
language is spoken, we can a language at school, in some apps, for example, Duolingo – a free
app to learn any language in the world or we can learn in some language center or by speaking
with tourists somewhere.

In conclusion, we can go to the country where the language is spoken to learn a language if we
have much money or a scholarship, otherwise, we also learn in school or language center to save
money.

Task 2: Some people believe that the rapid changes in machine translation software can fully
replace human translators or interpreters. To what extent do you agree and disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or
experience. Write an essay of at least 250 words

All languages can now be translated much easier and quicker thanks to machine translation
programs; therefore, some people believe that the rapid changes in machine translation software
can fully replace human translators or interpreters. I completely disagree with this idea. The
following essay takes a look at both sides of the argument.

As we know, thanks to the technologically advanced, these days we can easily translate any
foreign language into our mother tongue. It only takes a few seconds or so to translate a
language into another one using Google Translate or other translation apps. Also, machine
translation is often more accurate since translation software is designed so that it can translate a
word or a phrase based on its context. Therefore, some people think that such programs are a
substitute for learning a language, which takes years to study and practice.

Despite the theoretical benefits of this proposal, it cannot be accepted due to machine translation
software never replacing a human translator or interpreter.AI tools still struggle with
understanding the context, tone of voice, and cultural and colloquial nuances of everyday
language. Neural machine translation is a huge help in speeding up the translation process. Still,
there’s the need for a human editor or reviewer. Some translations may be wrong or not
translated literally

To sum up, machine translation software or human translators, it is all good for education. We
can use machine translation software but not abuse it. Learning that language to translate is
better than using tools to translate.

Task 3: Every year several languages die out. Some people think that this is not important
because life will be easier if there are fewer languages in the world. To what extent do you
agree or disagree with this opinion? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant
examples from your knowledge or experience. Write an essay of at least 250 words.

Each year, several languages are in danger of extinction. Some argue that if the number of
languages decreased, life would be simpler, therefore, this is not a crucial issue. This essay
disagrees with this statement because language dying out would lead to a decrease in job
opportunities and learning common languages seem to be too difficult for residents of some
nations.

Language extinction would result in a reduction in the number of employment opportunities. As

there are currently various languages in the world, numerous translation positions are needed to
help the locals to approach overseas media. If those languages became extinct, translators would
lose their jobs because citizens would be forced to learn common languages and be able to
understand foreign news and movies themselves. For instance, more than 15% of Vietnamese
people making money by writing subtitles for Western movies or translating English articles into
Vietnamese would need to look for other jobs if English became a mother tongue in Vietnam.

Another reason why life will be tougher with fewer languages is the fact that people may find it
too hard to study new languages. Because of the difference in sentence structures, vocabulary,
and accents each language has, it would take ages to adopt other languages. To illustrate, the
government in South Korea failed to make English an official language since Korean characters
are different from English words, and people, especially the old ones, have struggled to learn it
although they have been trying for a long time.

In conclusion, the extinction of languages could be considered a vital problem and life would be
more difficult when only a few languages exist because this would adversely affect the job
market, and learning global languages is not as easy as learning a native language.

Task 4:

Task 5: A company should limit its investment in social or environmental initiatives because this
takes away much of its profits. Do you agree or disagree?

Many people said that: ” A company should limit its investment in social or environmental
initiatives because this takes away much of its profits”. Although the profits of a company are
very important, I disagree with this opinion and this essay will focus on ideas that support my
point of view.

As we know, investments in social or environmental initiatives take away much of a company’s

profits but it’s compulsory in business because of the responsibility of the company for their
impact on society which is called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR plays a role in an
enterprise's commitment to business ethics, contributing to the sustainable development of
society. CSR helps businesses have more ethics in work, and make many benefits for society.

Moreover, Corporate Social Responsibility brings many of the values of ethics, for example, it
helps build public trust, 88% of consumers said they were more likely to spend money for a
company that supports and engages in activities to improve society and helps enhances positive
relationships. It also helps enhances positive relationships, too.

In conclusion, corporate social responsibility is very important for businesses and they need to
increase ethics in work as in society to make a good life.

Task 6: Some people believe that doing business internationally carries more risks as it is likely
for businesses to come across unknown obstacles. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people say that doing business internationally carries more risks as it is likely for
businesses to come across unknown obstacles. I agree with this opinion and this essay will focus
on my point of view on this issue.

Firstly, doing business internationally can have some currency risks. Currency risk arises
because international transactions are often conducted in more than one national currency.
When Frankfort, Michigan-based fruit processor Graceland Fruit, Inc. exports dried cherries to
confectioneries in Japan, it will normally be paid in Japanese yen. When currencies fluctuate
significantly, however, the value of the firm’s assets, earnings, and operating income can be

reduced. The cost of importing parts or components used in manufacturing finished products can
increase dramatically if the value of the currency in which the imports are denominated rises
sharply.

Moreover, doing business internationally can also have some commercial risks. Commercial risk
refers to the firm’s potential loss or failure from poorly developed or executed business
strategies, tactics, or procedures. Managers may make poor choices in such areas as the selection
of business partners, timing of market entry, pricing, creation of product features, and
promotional themes. For example, in domestic business, a company may terminate a poorly
performing distributor simply with advance notice.

In conclusion, business internationally has some risks but it also can make more profits than
business in the country, and business internationally also has important in the economic country
so we need to execute the rule of business to decrease risk in work.

Task 7: Most companies should practice some form of corporate social and environmental
responsibility. Do you agree or disagree with the opinion?

Some people discuss that most companies should practice some form of corporate social and
environmental responsibility. I agree with this opinion and this essay will mention my point of
view.

For one, I accept that businesses must make money to survive in a competitive world. It seems
logical that the priority of any company should be to cover its running costs, such as employees’
wages and payments for buildings and utilities. On top of these costs, companies also need to
invest in improvements and innovations if they wish to remain successful. If a company is
unable to pay its bills or meet the changing needs of customers, any concerns about social
responsibilities become irrelevant. In other words, a company can only make a positive
contribution to society if it is in good financial health.

Nextly, companies should not be run with the sole aim of maximizing profit; they have a wider
role to play in society. One social obligation that owners and managers have is to treat their
employees well, rather than exploit them. For example, they could pay a “living wage” to ensure
that workers have a good quality of life. I also like the idea that businesses could use a
proportion of their profits to support local charities, environmental projects, or education
initiatives. Finally, instead of trying to minimize their tax payments by using accounting
loopholes, I believe that company bosses should be happy to contribute to society through the
tax system.

In conclusion, I believe that companies should place as much importance on their social
responsibilities as they do on their financial objectives.

Task 8: Many people argue that an ethical business has more chances to be successful than an
unethical company does. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people discuss that an ethical business has more chances to be successful than an unethical
company. I agree with this opinion and this essay will focus on my point of view on this opinion.

Firstly, an ethical business can drive employee behavior and an unethical company hasn’t.
According to the 2018 Global Business Ethics survey, employees are more likely to apply
ethical reasoning when their company demonstrates why business ethics is important. Ninety-
nine percent of U.S. employees who experience a strong ethics culture said they’re prepared to
handle ethical issues. Companies that advocate for business ethics motivate their employees to
perform their roles with integrity.

Then, of course, there are the more serious consequences of highly unethical behavior.
Businesses that violate ethics and engage in illegal activities can be subject to costly fines and
lawsuits. For example, international bank HSBC was subject to a decade-long enforcement
action costing it $1.92 billion after the federal government determined the institution violated
money-laundering laws and sanctions rules

In conclusion, an ethical business has more chances to be successful than an unethical company
and they can make many benefits for life so we need to have ethics in work.

Task 9: Critical Reading

What are the impacts of digital technology?

Nowadays, digital technology is more rapidly developing and becoming an important part of our
life. We are depending on technology very much, for example, we usually check email, chat

before going out, use phone before go to bed ...v..v. We rely on technology to improve our lives.
The impact of digital technology can be divide into “good” and “bad”. On one hand, technology
has increased our connectivity and ability to communicate with others. On the other hand, our
digital life can erode our sense of self and our ability to understand others. It can also damage
our faith in institutions. In addition, it can take up all of our time and attention, causing us to feel
disconnected and less social. In general, technology is beneficial for society. However, it can
cause problems as well, so we need to use technology.

Task 10: Cause and Effect paragraph.

• What are the causes of climate change?

Climate change is the most problem in the world today and the cause of it is not only natural but
also stems from human activities. The first cause is cutting down forests, Cutting down forests to
create farms or pastures, or for other reasons, causes emissions, since trees, when they are cut,
release the carbon they have been storing. Each year approximately 12 million hectares of forest
are destroyed. Moreover, we can face to many floods over many years, landslides... Next, the
cause of climate change is also using transportation which is run by fossil fuel. That makes
transportation a major contributor to greenhouse gases, especially carbon-dioxide emissions.
Road vehicles account for the largest part, due to the combustion of petroleum-based products,
like gasoline, in internal combustion engines. But emissions from ships and planes continue to
grow. Transport accounts for nearly one-quarter of global energy-related carbon-dioxide
emissions. However, in many recent years, many companies are using electronics in transport to
decrease emit and protect the environment. Those are positive points to protect the Earth, the
motherland.

• What are the effects of rising sea levels?

Rising sea level is the most important problem not only in developing countries but also in
developed countries and it is affecting badly our life. First of all, when sea levels rise as rapidly
as they have been, even a small increase can have devastating effects on coastal habitats farther
inland, it can cause destructive erosion, wetland flooding, aquifer and agricultural soil
contamination with salt, and lost habitat for fish, birds, and plants. Higher sea levels are
coinciding with more dangerous hurricanes and typhoons that move more slowly and drop more
rain, contributing to more powerful storm surges that can strip away everything in their path.
One study found that between 1963 and 2012, almost half of all deaths from Atlantic hurricanes
were caused by storm surges. On the other hand, a higher sea level causes heavy rains and strong
winds, unleashes severe storms, and other big atmospheric phenomena that can be a real threat to
places that might be on their way.

Task 10: Global warming is one of the most serious issues that the world is facing today.

What are the causes of global warming and what measures can governments and individuals
take to tackle the issue?

One of the most critical challenges the world is facing today is global heating. Not only does is
result in large-scale shifts in weather patterns, but the sea levels are rising, because of the melting
of glaciers, which could lead to climate refugees. In this essay, I will examine two factors that
are contributing to global warming and suggest ways to improve the situation.

The main cause of global heating is the burning of fossil fuels. The world's population has
become dependent on oil, coal and natural gas to operate on a daily basis. This increase in
greenhouse gases, methane, and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is leading to a rise in the
plant's temperature. Paris, for instance, recorded the hottest summer ever in 2016. The citizens in
the country were not used to the high temperatures and many passed away due to heat stroke..

There are, however, some options to alleviate the problems caused by global heating, which
individuals and governments can take. Individuals can reduce their carbon footprint by using
public transport instead of driving their own private car.. Another solution would be for the
government to invest in renewable sources of energy. Generating energy that produces no
greenhouse gases would reduce air pollution.. Investing in renewable energy and public
transportation systems would take the pressure of the rate at which global warming is affecting
the world.

In conclusion, even though global warming seems to be an inevitable part of modern-day life, it
need not be. With creative thinking and everyone doing their part, the situation could be
improved.
