Introduction
The purpose of this training course is to educate partners to perform preparation, operation, acquisition
and maintenance of TGT tools and technologies with specific regard to SNL (Spectral Noise Logging) and
a brief introductory on HPT (High Precision Temperature), EmPulse II and EmPulse III (MID- Magnetic
Imaging Defectoscope).
The software used for all of the above tools is Indigo Suite. This course will outline the operation of this
software and the general navigation of its format. The software is set up to be used in a step by step
process with no shortcuts or deviations. Troubleshooting of the common issues with the software will be
discussed at the end.
At the commencement of this training course, it is desired that you will be able to plan, prepare and
execute a safe and successful logging operation. Furthermore, to retain the basic knowledge to educate
the client and answer any minor questions regarding the tool(s) and/ or technologies.
This material is not made to replace each tool/service official user manual but just field quick reference
and helpfile

APPLIED MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS AND ENGINEERING ARE IN THE CORE OF OUR TECHNICAL INNOVATIONS
AND DEVELOPMENT OF LEADING-EDGE SOLUTIONS TO OILFIELD PROBLEMS.
“TGT is a provider of oilfield services supplying game-changing logging and modelling solutions. The
company offers reservoir diagnostic technologies to accurately quantify production flow behind several
casing barriers and evaluate well integrity. Proprietary reservoir modelling techniques and a strong
geoscience team allow TGT to offer unique solutions to operators in the oil and gas industry. We believe
in successful measurement and modelling of what happens in the reservoir far beyond the wellbore.
Today, our tools enable customers to characterise and translate High Precision Temperature (HPT) and
Spectral Noise Logging (SNL) data into one-of-a-kind reservoir information for improved decision-making.
We process raw data through complex mathematical equations and filters to provide our clients with a
clear picture of what goes on in the well.”

SNL9 is the 9th generation of TGT Spectral Noise Logging tools, the housing of the tool is labelled as SNL6,
but it has been upgraded to SNL9 technology using an older housing (Pressure rating is 60Mba, 8,702Psi)
SNL10 is special version of SNL9 with higher pressure rating (100Mba, 14,504Psi)
The tool is manufactured and calibrated in Kazan, Russia at TGT Oilfield’s (what mostly referred to tool
factory), The tool is designed to measure acoustic emission caused by fluid and gas flows during
hydrodynamic surveys in injection, production and drilling wells with less than 30% hydrogen sulphide
content and special sealing o-rings installed.
This digital noise logging tool contains a memory module, a microphone consisting of two piezo-crystals,
and non-volatile NAND memory. The tool's operation is based on a preset cyclogram, signals from the
piezo-crystals enter the input of a preamplifier and are divided into high and low frequency bands. Then,
the signals are digitised with analogue-digital converters for high and low frequencies and are saved to
memory, data are stored as a binary code in a file.
The frequency range of this tool is from 8 Hz- 58,500 Hz. It is divided into two range spectrums, the first
being the low frequency spectrum, ranging from 8 Hz- 5,000 Hz and the other the high frequency
spectrum, ranging from 3,000 Hz- 58,500 Hz. The operating temperature rating of this tool is from -20
degrees C to +150 degrees C (-4 F to +302F).
The tool can be deployed in conditions up to 30% H2S when fitted with appropriate o-rings.
Refer to the official TGT user manual for detailed sizes, measurements, ranges and descriptions of all parts
associated with SNL9&10 and is to be used as the main reference.
Page 4
HPT (High Precision Temperature) it a memory specialty temperature logging. The housing of the tool is
labelled as DMPT2 (Downhole Memory Pressure/Temperature 2nd generation). The tool has been
designed to measure pressure and temperature during hydrodynamic surveys in injection and production
wells. In wells where H2S concentrations are up to 30 %, only titanium-alloy body tools are allowed to be
run, provided that AFLAS 90 DURO BLACK seal rings have been installed.
The tool records data into non-volatile electronic memory powered by self-contained battery and then
correlates measured data to depth.
The tool is essentially an electronic device designed for operation in oil and gas wells at high temperatures
and pressures (up to 60 MPa). While in operation, the tool takes ambient temperature and pressure
measurements. The acquired data are recorded into in-built memory. Electronic boards and battery are
located inside the tool body. Temperature sensor is positioned in a special shell inside the bay section.
The pressure sensor is located inside the tool and a channel is provided to ensure communication with
the ambient medium.
The safe operating temperature range of HPT is from -20C to +150C (-4F to +302F). The pressure range is
up to 60MPa. Keep in mind when operating in fluid and gas the weight of fluid needs to be included in
total pressure vs depth. The tool can be deployed in conditions up to 30% H2S when fitted with
appropriate o rings.
Refer to the official TGT user manual for detailed sizes, measurements, ranges and descriptions of all parts
associated with DMPT-2 and is to be used as the main reference.

Magnetic Imaging Defectoscope (MID), is now referred to as EmPulse. It can be of two types, either
EmPulse II or EmPulse III. The number associated is regarding the tools capability or function within
barriers. MID-2 Indigo (EmPulse II) serves to detect defects and measure thickness of tubing and
production casing strings or two string configurations (liner and production casing) simultaneously in
cases when surface casing (third barrier) is present in the well. MID-3 Indigo (EmPulse III) serves to detect
defects and measure thickness of production and surface casing strings (third barrier).
The tools are capable to detect and locate lateral and longitudinal defects in well completion components,
assessing downhole equipment conditions, and estimating surveyed pipe wall thickness deviation from
the nominal value using MID data interpretation programme. Surveyed pipe could be made of different
types of alloy steel and stainless steel including non-magnetic steel alloys.
The safe operating temperature range of EmPulse 2M (MID2M) tools is from -20C to +125C (-4F to +257F).
The pressure range is up to 100MPa and can be deployed in conditions up to 30% H2S when fitted with
appropriate o rings.
The safe operating temperature range of EmPulse-Indigo (MI2-Indigo and MI3D-Indigo) tools is from -20C
to +150C (-4F to +302F). The pressure range is up to 100MPa and can be deployed in conditions up to
30% H2S when fitted with appropriate o rings.
EmPulse II consists of two high powered coils. Each coil generates and receives an electromagnetic pulse.
The short coil is for use in the first barrier up to 5in diameter. The medium coil is for use in the second
barrier. The measurement received is the rate of decay of metal in the barrier associated to that coil.
EmPulse III consists of a single high-powered coil. This coil generates and receives an electromagnetic
pulse. The measurement received is the rate of decay of metal in the barrier associated to that coil.
The measurements these coils receive operate on the Eddy Current Principle.
In short, eddy currents are continuous never-ending loops of electrical current. What the coils within the
EmPulse tools are acquiring, is the break or disruption of these loops indicating a change in properties of
the metal. In other words, if the loop is broken there is a defect. These measurements are then applied
versus depth and time indicating the exact point of the defect.

SNL9 Schematic
The tool uses a single piece tandem 7.2V battery (part number 2ER26500S) containing positive
and negative wires. The minimum voltage requirements of the battery for use, is to range
between 6.8V -7.2V. You can measure the voltage of the battery by using a multi meter and
connecting red wires together and black wires together. The lifespan of a battery is 72hrs. Any
battery that has been used for 48hrs total shall be put out of service. A battery can be used in a
single use up to the 36hr limit though it is not recommended.

The SNL tool consists of 6 o rings and 1 plastic spacer ring. They are all 3.2mm X 32mm 90
Durometer Viton. We have sourced out the o ring size to be purchased from LSSI as a 219 size o
ring in HSN 90.
All remaining connections are NOT TO BE DISCONNECTED and may cause tool failure if not
adhered too.
The SNL and the EmPulse (MID) tools have the same size o ring 219 HSN 90.
