Beowulf was known for being a hero who defeated many beasts throughout his life with

his bare hands. The descriptions of the dragon and the differences between the text and

graphics in this essay.I will be pointing out the similarities of the last battle in Beowulf. And

mentioning the appearance of Beowulf and the text and graphic differences. This will

demonstrate the way graph and text is shown throughout beowulf and how it is shown to the

reader.

The dragon and Beowulf are different in the graphic novel than the text. In the graphic

novel(pg 56), Beowulf is shown to be powerful, Especially compared to his comrades. In one of

the pictures, it is shown that three of his comrades are holding a shield, and he just stands tall

above them. The visual portrayal leaves a long-lasting impression trying to change our

perception of Beowulf being heroic. The appearance of the dragon in the graphic.

The graphic novel shows the dragon’s appearance looks like a bird without scales and has more

of a reptilian look. The way the graphic of Beowulf shows the adversary meaning the dragon

looks like a threat based on its appearance highlights how heroic Beowulf is. In the actual text

Beowolf's appearance is described very lightly and talks more about his character and heroic

acts.“He was by far the foremost of men under heaven, the noble warrior blazed in his armor; he

was peerless among living men." tells about his nobility, bravery and his reputation.”

The text part of Beowulf describes more of Beowulf being a hero and leaving out anything about

his appearance. Another difference there is in Beowulf when describing the dragon in the text

"The was covered with scales, a fearful flying thing, its flames leaped out and burnt the Geats'

hall, the building engulfed in fire." This tells that the dragon looks like the stereotypical dragon

you would be able to look up with huge scales. In the text part of the story, the dragon is

described vividly so the reader can imagine how the dragon looks. But in the graphic part of the
story the dragon resembles more like a bird. This can show us how the portrayal of text and

graphics change the perception of how we understand the story below.

Even though there are a few differences between the text graphics, we can also agree

that they share similarities in portraying the last battle. In Beowulf, the hero’s weapon choice in

the final battle highlights the enduring significance of armament in the story. "Then he saw,

hanging on the wall, a heavy sword, hammered by giants, strong and blessed with their magic,

the best of all weapons."The sword is also shown as a giant in the graphic picture shown in

Beowulf. In both the graphic and the text they are showing that the sword and the person

owning it is powerful. In both the text and the visual novel of Beowulf, the hero's choice of

weapons and their significance during the final battle underscores the timeless importance of

the hero's armament in epic storytelling.“Then he saw, hanging on the wall, a heavy sword,

hammered by giants, strong and blessed with their magic, the best of all weapons.” The

description of the weapons in both the text and the graphic novel Beowulf highlights their

immense power and services as a reflection of the strength and skill of their wielder it’s a power

symbol that adds debt In both the text and the graphic novel adaptation of Beowulf, the hero’s

sword and shield serve as powerful symbols of his courage and defense. They are creating a

cohesive narrative.
