Chapters 1-3
1. What I learned?

As an early childhood teacher, I have learned that there are so many things to consider in
guiding and motivating our pupils to be creative. I must not dictate on what my pupils do in order for
them to come up with a creation. Also, I have learned that in order to achieve high-level creative
thinking skills, one must have basic knowledge and skills in a particular area. A certain study was
conducted and its result was, knowledge and skills are prerequisite for creativity. One important goal of
an early childhood teacher is to provide an adequate base of knowledge and skills for children
(Torrance ,1995).

In promoting creativity it can be achieved through play and exploration. As children explore and
play with materials in their environments, they are also in a sense shaping the brain (Catania, 2008).
Hands on activities stimulate various regions of the brain, and active participation helps young children
form strong mental association with their mental understandings (Hinton, Miyamoto, & Della-
Cheisa,2008: Rushton & Larkin, 2007). I will quote Chinese proverb, “Tell me and I forget. Show me and I
remember. Let me do and I understand.” This proves that the role of exploration and play is central to
the development of creativity-at all ages.

2. Questions I have

Can I fully deliver well the things I have learned in the book I have read? Can I be an efficient
early childhood teacher, especially in bringing out the creative aspect of a child’s life?

3. How will I apply?

I may apply the things I have learned in the book I have read by having enough time to
internalize and prepare all the needed things for a certain activity, not only the things to be prepared
but also the environment and experiences the pupils must undertake.
