SNAP regulations limit SNAP eligibility for an Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD) to 3
months in a 36 month period (3/36), unless the individual meets the ABAWD work requirements or
qualifies for an exemption from ABAWD work requirements.
The following household member, JAMIELEE BROOKS , has been identified as a non-exempt ABAWD and
has been referred to the SNAP Employment & Training (E&T) program. An E&T appointment notice for
this person will be mailed to you in a day or two. At this appointment, an E&T caseworker will
complete an employability assessment and develop a career plan to help him/her access employment
and training activities.
Prior to meeting with the E&T caseworker, JAMIELEE BROOKS is encouraged to complete an online
employment profile using a web and mobile solution known as Mississippi Works at
www.mississippiworks.org . This will lessen the time it will take to complete the intake process.
If he/she has already registered his/her profile, that's great! Be sure he/she takes the log-in
information with him/her to the E&T appointment with the E&T caseworker.
This person will meet the ABAWD work requirement by:
- Working 80 or more hours per month;
- Participating in an allowable work activity 80 hours or more per month;
- Participating in a WorkFare program or a 'comparable WorkFare' program for the number of hours
required by the State; or
- Combining work and participation in an allowable work activity for 80 or more hours per month.
JAMIELEE BROOKS can avoid using his/her countable months and/or a disqualification by taking part
in employment and training activities as quickly as possible and participating as required. If this
person fails to keep the E&T appointment or meet the ABAWD work requirement, without good cause, it
will result in a countable month toward the 3-month time limit and a sanction, unless he/she
qualifies for an exemption from ABAWD work requirements. If a sanction is imposed, your SNAP case
will be closed or this person will be disqualified and the SNAP benefits for your household will be
reduced.
