Krauss-Maffei Wegmann is the leading system

cles in Europe. Some 2,500 employees based in
Munich and Kassel are involved in the develop-
ment, manufacture and support of combat vehi-

Two histories – one company
The defence sector of Krauss-Maffei AG was mer-
ged with Wegmann & Co. GmbH in 1999 to
create Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. Thanks to this
newly available product diversity and system
competence, KMW soon achieved a unique posi-
tion on the world market. Its product range, focu-
sing on tracked armoured vehicles, was also
extended consistently and relevantly by the deve-
lopment of wheeled counterparts. This means
that Krauss-Maffei Wegmann can now offer
an appropriate and future-oriented response to
almost every requirement.

sions – the new range of assignments for the
Allied armed forces.

latest generation: modular, with maximum battle-
field mobility and minimum overall costs. This
innovative product from Military Mobile Bridges,
a wholly owned subsidiary of KMW, boasts an

mance. For example, a short bridge can be laid
within three minutes. And only six minutes are
needed for the fully extended bridge to span
obstacles.

The PSB2 is operated by a crew of two and can

Variant 3 of the MUNGO has a completely protec-
ted cabin with a continuous useful volume of 8 m3.
It can be used to carry supplies and equipment
to cover a broad range of missions by protected
command and operations vehicles carrying special
equipment such as lightweight battlefield recon-
naissance radar systems, ground sensors, detec-

tion systems for NBC combat agents or command
and information systems. Telecommunications
and medical equipment as well as command
posts can also be incorporated. The crew is effec-
tively protected against ballistic threats up to level
3 WC, mines up to level 2 A as well as improvised
explosive devices (IEDs). Variant 3 of the MUNGO
is also available with a remote-controlled moun-
ting, an air-conditioning unit, an NBC protection
unit and enhanced engine performance.

pools information from the various target-detection
and aiming devices and the on-board intercom as
well as system data to create a display and trans-
mit it to a trainer station in real time by radio. This
closes the training gap between virtual simulation
and live-ammunition training in a real vehicle. A
special benefit to KMW’s customers: for all pro-
ducts of its own manufacture, KMW offers the cor-
responding training equipment, training aids and
programmes. All relevant know-how then flows
into the work and access to original data is secu-
red.

be reduced by up to 75 percent – thus minimizing
the wear on the vehicles. Simulation technology is
now a permanent part of a comprehensive and
demanding training programme for road and rail DB
