Finding a Field-Related TOPIC (week 2)

Throughout the semester, you will produce and collect documents (in English) related to your field
of study. It is with the help of your personal collection of documents that you will complete the in-
class certificative written evaluations.

Step 1:THINK!
What are the specific courses you have completed or are in the process of completing?
What are some of the topics discussed in these courses?

Ex: Introduction to Sociology: racial inequalities/ disparities in Canada

Introduction to psychology: developmental stages Erickson, states of consciousness
List the courses here:
Course Main topics
Art and History of art and how to have a critical point of view

different program.

Add as many lines as you need

Step 2: Research

Can you find articles (IN ENGLISH) from specialised magazines or peer-reviewed articles
(approx. 2000-5000 words MAX) that are relatively recent (max 10 years old)? You can
watch my tutorial if you do not know how to find suitable articles. NB. General website
publications are not suitable neither are blog entries nor newspaper/news sites articles.
Then, you probably have found a suitable TOPIC.
Hint: perform a CRAP test.

Step 3: Submit your findings and wait for my approval.

Ps: Prepare a backup plan if your topic has already been chosen!

Questions to answer:
1. Selected topic:
“The future of art”

2. How is this related to your program? EXPLAIN!

In the last 50 years, the art field has made enormous progress. Even if visual art has consistently
evolved throughout its history, the easy access to the digital world has completely changed the
game. In our classes, we see and learn the traditional type of art (drawing, painting, sculpture) that
will forever exist. We also learn non-traditional art, like photography, editing and, eventually, digital
art, because it is more and more present in our life and environment. It wouldn’t be fair for the
students if their teachers only taught them painting and sculpting. We need to know how our field is
changing and what are our options for the future.

3. List some potential articles:

NB: THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. YOU WILL ADJUST THROUGHOUT THE
SEMESTER. THE OBJECTIVE HERE IS TO SEE IF YOU HAVE A TOPIC THAT IS NOT TOO
BROAD NOR TOO NARROW FOR WHICH YOU CAN FIND SUITABLE SOURCES
