named the next William G. Tierney Head Men's Lacrosse Coach, Cody Malawsky 1 (1-0-1)
following Tierney's retirement announcement to take effect after the Richie Connell 1 (1-0-1)
2023 season.
• In his 14 seasons under coach Tierney, Brown served as the
offensive coordinator. Under his guidance, the Pioneers' offense was
consistently ranked within the top -10 in scoring offense, ranking as
high as No. 3. Brown helped the Pioneers to make it to the NCAA
Tournament 11 times.
• Brown first joined the staff as a volunteer assistant under Jamie
Munro in 2007. When Tierney replaced Munro in the summer of
2009, Tierney and his son Trevor hired Matt Brown as the offensive
coordinator.
• Outside of NCAA lacrosse, Brown is one of the founders and directors
of Denver Elite Lacrosse and directs the Denver Elite Box Lacrosse
Program, which is a founding member of the USBOXLA. USBOXLA
began the Colorado Collegiate Box Lacrosse League (CCBLL) in
the Summer of 2017, which has led to the creation of six leagues ACTIVE GOAL STREAK

• Denver's four-goal comeback in the fourth quarter was Denver's first four-goal comeback in the final frame
since coming from behind to beat Stony Brook 13-12 on March 20, 2010 after trailing 12-8 with 11:49 to go
in regulation. The Pioneers hadn't had a two-goal comeback in the fourth quarter since 2019 (at Towson)
and hadn't had a three-goal comeback since March 7, 2015 (home vs. No. 3 Notre Dame).
• Denver's win was its first road win against a top-10 team since the Pioneers defeated No. 7 Ohio State in
Columbus on March 20, 2022.

• The Pioneers had 10 different goal scorers on Saturday afternoon, including three from defensive players

with two of his own. Michael Lampert continued his season of creating from behind the cage, scoring a goal
and adding two assists.
• Alec Stathakis controlled the possession game for the Pioneers, going 13-of-19 and picking up nine ground
balls, including going 5-for-5 in the fourth quarter.
• Kleban was one shy of his career high in saves, stopping 13 shots against just six goals allowed (.684). Kleban
had five of his 13 stops in the fourth quarter.
• AJ Mercurio led the Pioneers defense in caused turnovers, recording three of Denver's five on the afternoon.
• The Pioneers defense held their opponent to six goals or less for the first time since defeating Providence
