Science: Additional Learning Resources • Grade 8

Foreword

T
his list of learning resources identifies high-quality resources that have been recommended
by the Ministry of Education to support the curriculum, Science 8. This list will be updated
as new resources are recommended and older ones are no longer available. A list of core
learning resources can be found on the Ministry of Education website.
(CAN) indicates that a Canadian contributed to the development of the resource and/or that
it includes Canadian content. (SK) indicates that a Saskatchewan person contributed to the
development of the resource and/or that it includes Saskatchewan content.
Other resources beyond those recommended in this list may effectively support Science 8. It
remains the responsibility of educators to preview and select materials that best meet the needs
of their students, school, and community. Educators should choose these materials in accordance
with the school division’s learning resources selection policy.
Pricing of the learning resources contained in this list is subject to change without notice.
Supplies are an essential component of an effective science program, leading to the development
of deeper understanding of scientific concepts through hands-on inquiry. Some supplies may be
collected; others may be constructed; and many may be purchased. School divisions may wish to
purchase and assemble kits to support units of study that can be shared among schools. Schools
may wish to purchase general supplies that should be available in every school.
The Ministry of Education expresses its appreciation to publishers, producers, and distributors who
have provided learning resources for evaluation, and gratefully acknowledges the contributions
made by educators who served as evaluators.

water are a major theme of Project WET.
Other activities include water’s chemical and
physical properties, quantity and quality
issues, aquatic wildlife, wetlands, ecosystems,
and management strategies. The activities
promote critical thinking and problem-solving
skills and help provide young people with the
knowledge and experience to make decisions
regarding water resource use. Teachers are
encouraged to select activities from this
resource that align with curriculum outcomes
and that meet the needs of students.
The Project WET Curriculum and Activity

workshops. These six-hour workshops include
an opportunity to experience the activities
and to plan how to use them in the classroom.
A Saskatchewan background supplement will
be provided to educators in addition to the
activity guide. A modest registration fee will
cover workshop materials and expenses.
