Digital Photogrammetry

• Photogrammetry is the science of collecting 3D physical information from 2D

photos, often aerial images captured by drones.

• Objective
Derive the position and shapes of objects from digital photographs
1. The interior orientation parameters (known)
2. The position and orientation of the camera station (known)

• Image Matching
• Process of finding matching points in the corresponding stereo image pairs.
• The conjugate point in the corresponding image is determined by comparing the
similarity measure, e.g. brightness
• Similarity is measured by correlation coefficient
• Correlation coefficient varies from 0 to 1
• 0 = no match at all
• 1= 100% matched

• Problems in image matching-

• conjugate point may not exist (occlusion)
• repetitive patterns many possible matches
• poor texture uncertain solution
• image noise uncertain solution
• unwanted objects (vegetation, buildings, etc for DTM)
• difficult surface parts (sharp ridge or drainage lines, etc)
• disturbances (scratches, clouds, etc)CSNAP
