C. Questions to answer

1. Explain why the lymphatic system is a one-way system, whereas the blood vascular system is a
two-way system.
- The lymphatic system is primarily a one-way system that transports lymph and helps maintain
fluid balance and immune response. The blood vascular system is a two-way system closed
circulation that circulates oxygen, nutrients, and waste products throughout the body.

2. How do lymphatic vessels resemble veins?

- Larger lymphatic vessels have a three-tunic structure with one-way valves to prevent
backflow, making them similar to veins. These one-way valves are quite near to one another,
and each one generates an enlargement in the lymphatic vessel, giving the vessels a beaded
appearance.

3. How do lymphatic capillaries differ from blood capillaries?

- The lymphatic system of which Lymphatic capillaries are a component, supports the
cardiovascular system by delivering immune cells to infected or inflammatory regions and
rerouting extra interstitial fluid and proteins back into the serum. This is also nec essary for the
lymph, a clear fluid that contains waste products and white blood cells, to be transported back
into the circulatory system and for the interstitial fluid to drain. By moving immune cells and
antigens, they also contribute to immune function. These tubes are blind-ended with
overlapping endothelial cells that function as one-way valves to let fluid in but stop it from
coming back out. Because of their structure, they are able to absorb large molecule that are
difficult for blood capillaries to access, like proteins and cell debris while Blood capillaries
comes with oxygenated blood from the heart to the the body's tissues and returns
deoxygenated blood to the heart. The transfer of gases, nutrients, and toxins between the
blood and tissues is carried out by these capillaries. They eliminate carbon dioxide and waste
products from metabolism while supplying cells with oxygen and nutrition. Usually, they
consist of a single layer of endothelial cells encircled by a basement membrane that holds
plasma, red and white blood cells, and dissolved materials such as gases, nutrients, and
waste products.

4. What is lymph?
- Lymph is a liquid fluid that circulates throughout your lymphatic system. Your lymphatic
system supports your overall health. Lymph absorbs fluids from your tissues and transports
them back to your blood. It transports nutrients and proteins into your cell s and tissues. It also
collects any toxins found in your cells and tissues.

5. What are the two major functions of the lymph nodes?

- The lymphatic system has multiple interrelated functions:
1. it is responsible for the removal of interstitial fluid from tissues.
2. it absorbs and transports fatty acids and fats as chyle from the digestive system.
