Complete Blood Count-ESR
Investigation Result Unit Bio. Ref. Interval
Method : Westergren
Interpretation :
An erythrocyte sedimentation rate test, also called an ESR or sed rate test, measures the speed at which red blood cells
settle to the bottom of an upright glass test tube. This measurement is important because when abnormal proteins are
'.9- esent in the blood, typically due to inflammation or infection, they cause red blood cells to clump together and sink more
quickly, which results in a high ESR value. The ESR is useful in detecting inflammation in the body that may be caused by
infection, some cancers, and certain autoimmune diseases such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis, lupus, and Kawasaki disease.
The ESR alone can't be used to diagnose any one specific disease, however.

WIDAL SLIDE TEST

Investigation Result
WIDAL SLIDE TEST
S. typhi 'TO' 1:40
~typhi 'TH' 1:40
, typhy 'AH' Nil
S. typhy 'BH' Nil
Impression Agglutination titre of 1:80 or more is significant .An increase in titre
4 to 5 days after the first test is suggestive of active salmonella
infection.
Interpretation :
The Widal test is one method that may be used to help make a presumptive diagnosis of enteric fever, also known as
typhoid fever. Enteric fever is a life-threatening illness caused by infection with the bacterium Salmonella enterica serotype
Typhi (S. typhi), usually transmitted through food and drinks contaminated with fecal matter. It is associated with symptoms
that include high fever, fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, weight loss, and a rash known as "rose •
spots." Early diagnosis and treatment are important because serious complications, including severe intestinal bleeding or
perforation, can develop within a few weeks.

Notes Clinical diagnosis should not be made on the findings of a single test result, but should integrate
both clinical and laboratory data.

MALARIAL PARASITE

Investigation Result
PS For Malarial Parasite Malarial Parasites not seen as thick & Thin smear.
Examination
Method : Micrroscopy
-ITERPRETATION :
1. Parasites are usually seen during febrile episode. .
2. Peripheral smear has sensitivity of 86. 79% and hence repeated smear examination can be required to rule out false
negativity.
3. Peripheral smear examination is a screening test and other methods like QBC (quantitative buffy coat), malaria antigen
test and PCR should be used for confirmation especially in low parasitic index.
4. Parasitic index reflects severity of infestation (parasites per 100 RBC).
5. Parasitemia after adequate therapy is indicative of resistant strains.

Dengue NSl Antigen

Investigation Result
DENGUE NSl ANTIGEN
Dengue NSl Antigen Positive

eterpretation :
The medical use of the NSl antigen test can be defined to diagnose dengue infections and is effective to 1st day detection.
Additionally, NSl assay is useful for differential diagnostics in regards to flaviviruses. NS! is present in the serum of infected
persons directly at the onset of clinical symptoms in primary dengue infection and produces a strong humoral response. It is
detectable before the appearance of IgM antibodies (begin circulating). Dengue virus by NS1 antigen is laboratory
confirmation of dengue in patients also assessing clinical aspects (as well as, taking into account where the individual may
have traveled recently).
