The objectives of this course are :
1. To make aware students aware about machine learning approaches and their
fundamentals
2. To understand and implement supervised machine learning algorithms for real-world

algorithms for real-world applications, while understanding the strengths and
weaknesses.
4. To fine tune machine learning algorithms and evaluate models generated from data.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) , AI: Application areas , AI Basics (Divide and
Conquer, Greedy, Branch and Bound algorithms.Machine Learning definition , Machine
Learning versus AI, Machine Learning versus Deep Learning, Types of Machine Learning,
Steps of Machine Learning, Feature Extraction , Feature Correlation , Feature
Transformation, Train Model, Evaluate, Data cleaning, data transform, Overfitting,
Underfitting, Variance, Bias.

Unit II (10)
Supervised Learning
Classification and regression, classification algorithms: Random Forest, Decision Trees,
Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines, Naïve Bayes, application. Regression
algorithms: Linear Regression, Regularization Techniques.

Unit III (9)


Artificial Neural Networks
Neurons and biological motivation, Perceptrons: representational limitation and gradient
descent training, activation functions, Multilayer networks and back-propagation. Hidden
layers and constructing intermediate, distributed representations.

Unit IV (9) Unsupervised Learning: Clustering


K-Means, K Nearest Neighbors, Association Rule Learning. Reinforcement Learning:
Markov Decision, Monte Carlo Prediction, Methods of Dimensionality Reduction: PCA,
SVD, Case Study (Clustering/Anomaly/Fraud Detection). Case Study (predicting product
demand, dynamic pricing)
