PT optional requirements, which are specific to the PTS Schedule is described in Annexure 1 5.0. Levels of Qualification Personnel involved in liquid penetrant testing shall be qualified and certified in accordance with a written procedure confirming to ASNT SNT-TC-1A or ISO 9712 180 9712/ EN 473 / PCN qualified personnel will be used for PEDIPE(S)R and Norsok orders, Basic levels of qualification and responsibilities described as follows; Levelll- Personnel performing and evaluating the results with respect to applicable codes, standards, specifications and according to relevant procedures. Level ll- Personnel for providing training, examining and qualifying the NDT Level I! personnel. Note: Any ther equivalent brands can be used but the intermixing of penetrant materials from diferent fami or cfferent manufacturers is, not permited. 8.0 Examination procedure 8.1 Temperature Limit ‘The temperature of the examined surface and Penetrant materials shall be between 10 °Cto 62 °C throughout the examination petiod. For un-machined surfaces cleaning as per ASTM E165, Annexes A1.1.1.8 Examined surface shall be free of any dit, grease, lint, scale, welding lux, weld spatters, oil or any other extraneous matter that could obscure surface opening or otherwise interfere with the examination 8.3 Drying After Pre-Cleaning ‘After pre-cleaning, drying ofthe surfaces to be examined shall be accomplished by normal evaporation or with forced hot or cold air. A minimum 60 seconds to ensure that the cleaning solution has evaporated prior to application of the penetrant. 8.4 Penetrant Application After the parthas been cleaned, cried, and is within the specified temperature range, the penetrant shall be applied to the surface to be examined so that the entire part or area under examination is compietely covered with penetrant. Application methods. Include dipping, brushing, flooding, or spraying, Penetrant shall remain wet throughout the dwell time. The dwell ime requirements shall be followed as per PT option table which is referred in this procedure. 8.5 Removal of Excess Penetrant Removal of Solvent removable penetrants Excess solvent removable penetrants shall be removed by wiping with a cloth or absorbent paper, repeating the operation until ‘most traces of penetrant have been removed. The remaining traces shall be removed by lightly wiping the surface with cloth or absorbent paper moistened with solvent. To minimize removal of penetrant from discontinuities, care shall be taken to avoid the Use of excess solvent. Flushing the surface with solvent, following the application of the penetrant and prior to developing, is prohibited. Removal of Water. Washable Penetrants ‘The excess penetrant on the surface being examined must be removed with water. It can be removed manually with a coarse spray or wiping the part surface with @ dampened cloth, automatic or semi-automatic water-spray equipment, or by water immersion. For immersion rinsing, parts are completely immersed in the water bath with air or mechanical agitation. ‘The temperature of the water shall be maintained within the range of 10°C to 38 * Spray-rinse water pressure shall not exceed 40 psi. When hydro-air pressure spray guns are used, the air pressure should not exceed 25 psi other than drinking, bottled, distilled, or deionized water is used, it shall be analyzed for chlorine and sulfur max content shall not exceed 0.1% by weight. 8.8. Drying aftor excess penetrant removal The surfaces may be dried by normal evaporation, bioting, wiping, or forced air. ‘The drying will vary with the type of drying used and the size, nature, geometry and number of parts being processed. UNCONTROLLED Copy te \ SEVERN Liquid Penetrant Testing ; Reference No: OP-8.8 Page 6 of 10 \ [Issue No. 2 | Issue Date: Sep 06, 222 _Effecive Date: Jan 31, 2029 8.7 Developer application ‘The developer shall be applied by spraying type over the surface in such a manner to assure complete part coverage with a thin even film of developer, The Insufficient coating thickness and excessive coating thickness shall not be there while application of, developer. 8.8 Developing time Developing time begins as soon as the wet developer coating is dry. ‘The length of ime the developer is to remain on the part shall be minimum 10 minutes prior to inspection. ‘The final interpretation shall be followed as per PT option table which is referred inthis procedure. 8.0 Interpretation of indications {An indication of an imperfection may be larger than the imperfection that causes it; however, the size of the indication is the basis for acceptance evaluation. Only indications with major dimensions greater than 1.5 mm shall be considered relevant. ‘= Allinear indication is one having a length greater than three times the with. ‘=A rounded indication is one of circular or etiptical shape withthe length equal to or less than three times the width. Any questionable or doubtful indications shall be reexamined to determine whether or not they are relevant. Discontinuitos at the surface shall be indicated by bleeding of the penetrant. However, localized surface irregularities such as, from machining marks or other surface conditions may produce false indication. Broad areas of pigmentation which could mask indications of discontinuities are unacceptable, and such areas will be cleaned and re-examined, 10.0 Evaluation Final interpretation shall be done under either natural or artificial visible ight. Proper illumination is required to ensure adequate sensitivity of the examination. Minimum light intensity at the examination surface of 1076 Lux (100 foot candles) is required 11.0 Acceptance standard and criteria ‘Acceptance standard and criteria shall be followed as per Annexure-1 PT options table which is referred inthis procedure. 12.0 Post Examination Cleaning ‘After completion of examination, the residual penetrant or developer shall be removed by use of solvent cleaning or simple water rinse/spray, ete. 13.0 Calibration Light meter shall be calibrated at least once a year or whenever the meter has been repaired. If meter have not been in use for ‘one year or more, calibration shall be done before being used. Penetrant particles are easy to inhale and the use ofa dust respirator is recommended. ‘Wet Floors - Slipping on a floor wetted with a particle suspension, Shifting or Dropping of Large Components - Large components, especially those on temporary supports can shift during ‘examination ofall while being lifted. In addition, operators should be alert to the possibly of inury to body members being ‘caught beneath a sling/chain and the piece. Materials and Concentrates - The safe handling of liquid penetrant chemicals and concentrates are governed by the supplie’s Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). 15.0 Reports Liquid penetrant examination report shall have essential parameters as per relevant cods & standards. ‘Typical format attached for reference.
