Introduction to Comparative Literature: Marking Scheme to the Final Test (35%)

Students are required to answer 3 questions (out of a total of 100 marks).

Sections 1-3

Mark/Grade Descriptors
A+/ 80 EXCELLENT
A/ 75 The answer is well written, organized, brief and to the point. It shows good appreciation of the issues raised in
A-/ 70 the question. Elaboration of ideas is supported by well-chosen examples from the relevant text. The student
also exhibits a good command of written English and clarity of thought.
B+/ 65 VERY GOOD
B/ 60 The answer is on the whole relevant and appropriate. There may be occasional confusion in the discussion or
B-/ 55 inclusion of unimportant examples. The answer shows good language control, although lacking fluency at
times.
C+/ 50 AVERAGE
C/ 45 The answer contains some key points but it is felt that some of the points require further elaboration.
C-/ 40 Language control is acceptable but limited. Ideas are expressed but there are errors in sentence structure and
spelling
D/ 20 BORDERLINE
The answer is readable but explanations are either incomplete or not convincing. The answer shows that some
of the issues raised in the question are not adequately appreciated by the student. Or, the answer is too short
and not substantial enough. Spelling and grammatical errors may be intrusive.
F/ 0 POOR
Basically the task is not fulfilled. Only a very short answer is given and it fails to address any issue in
adequate detail. Generative AI is used.
