Growing Leaders - Activity 1 - Healthy Lifestyle
Aquaponic System Set-Up/Elementary Visit
Lakeview has three different hydroponic systems, an aquaponic system, and two garden towers. Through the
years we have gained knowledge about the hydroponic systems and used that to educate our elementary
schools about healthy food options and how to grow their own produce. We also use all of the produce from our
systems in our school lunch.

Goal #1
Goal: Teach one lesson plan to fourth grade students in the school district about their tower gardens and how
to grow healthy produce.
The Ag. Leadership class students will prepare lesson plans about how to set up a tower garden
Plan of Action:
and how to start vegetable seeds to grow vegetables in their tower gardens. FFA members will then visit our
elementary school and teach the fourth grade students about hydroponics and growing vegetables. This will
help develop leadership skills in our FFA members by allowing them the opportunity to educate our district
elementary students.
Outcome: EXCEEDED We visited two different classes to help them set up their tower gardens and teach the
students about growing their own produce and the importance of eating healthy.

Goal #2
Goal:Donate lettuce grown in our aquaponic system to our lunch staff to be served in our school lunch
program as a part of the salad bar at least twice a week.
Plan of Action:We will work closely with our cook staff to donate fresh lettuce for our salad bar. We will promote
this project by creating posters that inform students of how the lettuce is grown and harvested. FFA members
will work together to plant the seeds and transplant the plugs to our aquaponic system. Members will then care
for and harvest the lettuce in a safe and sanitary way to be donated to the school lunch program.
Outcome: MET Every two weeks lettuce is harvested from the aquaponic system, cleaned, packaged, and
delivered to our lunch staff. Students enjoy the fresh lettuce and we are

Goal #3
Goal:Promote healthy eating throughout our high school by creating informational posters to inform students
about how our lettuce is grown and why it is important to eat healthy.
Plan of Action: We will create posters to hang up around the cafeteria and salad bar that will educate students
about where the lettuce comes from and how it is grown at our school by our FFA chapter. These posters will
demonstrate how the lettuce is planted and harvested and will educate students on health food options. Not
only will these posters inform students about how to grow produce, but it will also promote our FFA chapter in
a positive light.
Outcome: MET FFA officers and our student greenhouse manager created five posters that we hung up
around the cafeteria. Due to these posters we generated a lot of interest in our FFA chapter by other students.

Summary
Advancing Leaders: Our involvement with the elementary schools and our lunch staff has allowed us to create a
great rapport with students and staff. We have been able to promote our chapter through our aquaponic and
hydroponic systems while encouraging students to eat healthy and learn about where their food comes from and
how it is grown. Visiting the elementary classrooms allowed us to interact with youth in our school district and
assist them in setting up their systems and starting vegetable seeds.
Impact:We wanted the opportunity to reach all of the students within the high school. By creating the posters and
hanging them up around the cafeteria, all students were able to the projects that our FFA chapter is doing. This
gained the attention of many students and generated more interest in our chapter that led to an increase in
chapter members and recognition for our FFA chapter. With our aquaponic system and hydroponic systems we
have been able to reach many students within our district.
This project heavily focuses on impacting students in the Lakeview district. With our
Related to Quality Standard:
aquaponic and hydroponic systems we are able to educate both high school and elementary students and inform
them about where their food comes from.

Growing Leaders - Activity 1 - Healthy Lifestyle

At the beginning of each semester, FFA members travel to the elementary schools in our district to help
each class that houses a tower garden, set up their systems. During this time FFA members teach
students about the hydroponic systems, materials they will need, and how to start growing seeds for their
tower gardens. Students get to interact with high school FFA members and learn about the growing their
own produce and where their food comes from. This helps our chapter promote FFA and agricultural
literacy.

Growing Leaders - Activity 2 - Leadership
Leadership Development Events
Each year, Lakeview FFA members prepare for speeches, demonstrations, and interviews for our district
Leadership Development Event contests. These contests instill leadership skills and develop many qualities in
our FFA members. LDE's help students gain skills that they can use throughout their FFA career and their future
career.

Goal #1
Goal: Have individuals and teams compete in every Leadership Development Contest available at the district
level.
By promoting the importance of leadership skills and abilities, more students will be interested in
Plan of Action:
showcasing the leadership skills they have developed. Our chapter will host practices twice a week and also
bring in alumni members to help coach teams and individuals. By utilizing alumni members, students will have
the chance to work with other adults and develop more skills that can be utilized in and outside of the
classroom and FFA chatper.
Outcome:MET As a chapter we had at least one member competing in every available, high school level
Leadership Development Event contest. This could not have been done without the dedication of our
members.

Goal #2
Goal: Qualify three members in individual Leadership Development Event contests to the state competition.
Lakeview FFA will host a public performance for all members competing in LDE's, this will allow
Plan of Action:
students to perform in front of an audience as well as practice answering questions about their speeches. This
is a great way for members of our FFA chapter to interact with members of our community and alumni chapter.
As a chapter, we are also able to receive feedback in which we are able to improve from before our district
contest.
Outcome: MET Lakeview FFA qualified three members in individual LDE contest. Members qualified in the
areas of Extemporaneous Speaking, Cooperative Speaking, and Senior Public Speaking.

Goal #3
Goal: Qualify to state in at least one team event for Leadership Development Events.
Promoting leadership opportunities and events for students will ignite their passion when it
Plan of Action:
comes to competing in leadership development events. We will utilize community members, upper classman,
and alumni members to help prepare teams for Conduct of Chapter Meetings, Parliamentary Procedure, and
Agriculture Demonstration.
Outcome: EXCEEDED We had teams compete in Conduct of Chapter Meetings, Parliamentary Procedure,
and Agriculture Demonstration. Two teams in qualified for state in Conduct of Chapter Meetings.

Summary
Advancing Leaders: This event allows FFA members to develop leadership skills that they may use throughout
high school and into their future career. Students are better able to serve their community and chapter by
developing public speaking and service skills. These leadership events greatly impact our chapter by allowing
students to go out of their comfort zones to present speeches, demonstrations, and compete as teams to
showcase the hard work they have put in to prepare for the events.
Impact: Leadership development events have a positive impact on our FFA members by creating a sense of
recognition for hard work. These events instill determination and work ethic into our FFA members which
promote a positive working attitude throughout our entire chapter. Not only do students get the opportunity to
compete, but our chapter also hosts a community night in which all community members and alumni supporters
are invited to watch the various LDE contests that members have prepared for.
This event relates directly to leadership because students are working with each other,

Growing Leaders - Activity 2 - Leadership

This year Leadership Development Events looked a little different due to social distancing and virtual
events. Students were able to compete and showcase their leadership skills via Zoom. Students competed
in contest such as Employment Skills, Speeches, Creed Speaking, Conduct of Chapter Meetings,
Parliamentary Procedure, and Agriculture Demonstration. While virtual events are not ideal, this helped
students gain many technological skills and gain knowledge on internet etiquette and how to conduct job
interviews via Zoom.

Growing Leaders - Activity 3 - Scholarship
SAE Mentorship Program
Our SAE Mentorship program is designed to set FFA members up for success. This program partners older
members with new members. It allows for new members to ask questions about contests, the AET, etc. It allows
older members to develop communication & mentorship skills. All around, this program is designed to increase
scholarship for participants.

Goal #1
Goal: Identify twenty upperclassmen willing to mentor our incoming members by June 1, 2020.
In order to identify upperclassmen who would be fit to mentor in this program, we will begin by
Plan of Action:
holding an informational meeting the last week of May. This will allow us to gauge the interest of the
upperclassmen. Later in the same week, we will hold a more in-depth meeting with the upperclassmen we
have identified as willing to participate. At this meeting, we will outline the expectations related to this program.
Outcome: EXCEEDED Our chapter successfully identified twenty upperclassmen willing to participate as
mentors in this program ahead of June 1, 2020. This allowed us to prepare these mentors for the upcoming
year.

Goal #2
Goal:Fully equip upperclassmen participants with the tools needed to be successful mentors through this
program by August 1, 2020.
Plan of Action:Although the upperclassmen have a decent understanding of contests, the AET, programs we
hold, etc by this point, the majority of them are new to mentorship. In order to give all participants the best
program possible, and to increase communication and scholarship skills, we will host two training sessions.
These sessions will give upperclassmen the tools needed to be effective mentors. Potential items include
speakers and development programs.
Outcome: MET By August 1, 2020, we were able to host two training sessions to provide upperclassmen with
the tools needed to be successful mentors and to get out of the program what they deserve.

Goal #3
Goal:Create a minimum of fifteen mentorship partnerships between our previously identified upperclassmen
and new members by August 15, 2020.
Plan of Action: On August 13th, we will hold a pre-meeting to this event. The upperclassmen, who have
previously received the training, will be able to present to new members about the program. New members will
be able to converse with upperclassmen. This will allow connections to be formed before the actual event and
will lead to partnerships identifying themselves. After the meeting, the new members will have the chance to
request a partner.
Outcome: EXCEEDED During our pre-meeting, each new member was able to find a mentor that they felt
extremely comfortable with and with whom they wanted to continue their mentorship.

Summary
Advancing Leaders:This event was an extreme success for our chapter, particularly in the area of advancing
leaders. Both upperclassmen and new members evaluated the event as having given them skills to advance their
communication, mentorship, and scholarship skills. New members also reported feeling more comfortable asking
questions which led to a more productive year for them.
Impact:The SAE Mentorship program left profound impacts on participants on both sides of the program. First
and foremost, it led to new members being set up for success within our chapter and in life. However, it also
provided upperclassmen with many skills to be used as they continue in life. Upperclassmen are able to use this
experience within resumes, interviews, and jobs as well.

Growing Leaders - Activity 3 - Scholarship

At the beginning of the year, underclassmen or new members in our FFA chapter are paired up with older
members who have more experience. Mentors and mentees meet once a month to discuss all things FFA.
The mentorship program allows new members to gain experience with record keeping because older
members are able to help young members navigate the Agriculture Experience Tracker (AET). We have
seen an increase in member knowledge, responsibility, and work ethic. This program has increased our
membership and has created stronger FFA members.

Building Communities - Activity 1 - Human Resources
Mission Meal
Every month, a group of members from our chapter gather different foods and supplies in order to prepare for our
local rescue mission in Columbus. Our members gather there to prepare and serve the meals to the guest who
are currently staying there. Our members build relationships with the people who stay and work there.

Goal #1
Goal: Serve one meal a month to the local rescue mission.
We wanted a way for our chapter to engage with our community while doing acts of service. We
Plan of Action:
decided that this would be a great way because we are aiding to members of the community who are in need.
Since we found a community service project that we can serve at monthly, it is easier for us to build
relationships with those who work and serve the mission. We create different meals each month and
personally serve them to the mission residents.
Outcome: MET Since August of 2019 we have served a meal to mission residents each month, providing
different meals each month and donating left overs.

Goal #2
Goal: Have six FFA members each month attend the mission meal.
Plan of Action:At the beginning of each month, we will have a sign up sheet for members to sign up for a
specific ingredient for our meal. We will try to incorporate different members each month so that everyone has
the opportunity to participate in this community service project. Each students will be tasked with bringing a
portion of the meal and are then expected to serve the meal at the mission.
Outcome:MET Each month we have more than six students interested in helping with the mission meal.
These meals have become a highlight for members and give them the opportunity to give back to they
community.

Goal #3
Goal: Build a strong working relationship with the local rescue mission.
Plan of Action: Throughout our time serving meals at the rescue mission, we have built a great working
relationship with the staff and residents. We have learned what they need the most and have been able to
build off of that information and host more community service events to give back to the mission. We now host
a cleaning supply drive for the mission as well as our monthly meals.
Outcome: MET This past year along with serving meals to the mission we also hosted a cleaning supply drive
at our school to involve all high school students and promote community service to all students.

Summary
Advancing Community: This event helps our chapter by promoting community service opportunities to all FFA
members and highlights ways to give back to the community. Members that participate in mission meals have
the ability to interact with residents at the mission and work together with those who run the local mission. This
builds communication and leadership skills within our members. Our chapter prides itself on community service
and these opportunities instill a sense of service in our members.
Impact: This activity impacts both the members of the mission as well as the FFA members who participate in the
serving of the meal. It is so amazing to see the faces of the residents when we are serving the meals and the
members have learned so much from this activity. The local mission residents are so grateful for our meals and
even allow FFA members to sit and eat with them. Our FFA members always express their gratitude for the
experience and have since encouraged other member to get involved.
This event relates to building our community because our chapter has the opportunity
Related to Quality Standard:
to give back to our community members. This event build leaders within our chapter that have a passion for
community service projects.

Building Communities - Activity 1 - Human Resources

Students work together to serve meals to local rescue mission residents. Each member participating in the
monthly meal will bring an ingredient to create a full meal for mission residents. Once at the mission,
members will prepare and plate the meal to be served to each resident at the mission. This creates
responsibility in our members by holding them accountable to bring their designated food item to complete
the meal. We try to serve a main entrée, chips, fruit, and dessert each time we serve a meal.

Building Communities - Activity 2 - Environmental
Highway Trash Clean-Up
Once a semester our chapter hosts a "Highway Trash Clean Up" as a part of our Adopt-a-Highway program.
Members gather at the school and travel to our adopted stretch of highway along highway 81. Members spend
the afternoon picking up litter and making sure our community stays clear.

Goal #1
Goal: Have at least 20 members participate in the Highway Trash Clean Up.
Plan of Action:The plan is to have enough members help to do it in an efficient manner. We need enough to do
both sides of the highway a mile north and a mile south. This job consist of many people to successfully clean
and preserve the environment along the highway. We have a down fall this year because we lost a lot of
seniors members. But the upcoming freshman are showing big signs of commitment so we are very excited to
see what they have to bring.
Outcome: EXCEEDED We had 28 members attend our highway clean up. This lead to cleaning up both sides
of the highway in an efficient manner.

Goal #2
Goal: Host a Highway Clean Up once every semester.
Plan of Action: As a chapter we will choose a date each semester to host our highway trash clean up days. We
will gather the materials we need such as, trash bags, safety vests, and signs from our local highway
department. These materials ensure that students are safe and have the proper materials needed to efficiently
clean up litter from our stretch of adopted highway. Students will work in groups to clean up our two mile
stretch of highway.
Outcome: MET This year we gathered in September and will gather again in April to clean up our stretch of
adopted highway. Having one each semester gives all students the opportunity to participate in the event.

Goal #3
Goal: Ensure that all FFA members stay safe and there are no accidents while members are cleaning up along
the highway.
Plan of Action:We will put out warning signs and every member will be required to wear an orange vest. We
have our members sign a waver when we meet at the school before we go out to pickup trash on the highway.
We tell them very important instructions and rules once we get to our meeting spot. It is very important for
these instructions to be followed because we don't want anybody getting injured and also, we have a lot of
members that usually come.
Outcome: MET There were no accidents or injuries throughout the entire event. Members were required to
wear safety vests and officers posted signs along the highway to warn drivers.

Summary
Advancing Community: Our chapter decided to adopt a two mile stretch of highway along highway 81 near Platte
Center. We wanted to work together to keep our community clean and free of litter. This project is a great way to
get FFA members involved in community service and shows members why it is important to keep their
environment clean. This event has a huge impact on our community by demonstrating to community members
some of the service activities our chapter hosts and participates in.
Impact:This activity not only effects our members but also effects our community as well. While members are
working to keep the roadsides clean they learn that some of their bad choices such as littering, has a big impact
on our community and environment. Community members get to see FFA members outside working to keep our
community clean and may think twice about littering. Members get to learn what effects littering has on our
environment, this creates a lasting impression in all FFA members.
This project related directly to building our community. As a chapter, we want our
Related to Quality Standard:
community to be as clean as possible and our FFA members pride themselves on taking care of our
environment.

Building Communities - Activity 2 - Environmental

This fall 28 members helped with our Highway Trash Clean Up. Members met at school to receive
directions and materials needed to pick up litter from our adopted stretch of Highway 81. Members worked
together to pick up litter from roadside ditches to keep our community clean and free from trash. This also
helps members realize that actions have consequences and littering can have a devastating effect on our
environment. Dedication and team work from all members involved in this event is crucial to having a safe
and successful event.

Building Communities - Activity 3 - Stakeholder Engagement
Harvest Heroes/Planting Heroes
During Harvest Heroes community service, Lakeview FFA provides food, water, and a thank you note to farmers
in the field during harvest to show appreciation for their hard work in our agricultural community.

Goal #1
Goal: Provide 100 meals to local farmers in the field during harvest season and planting season.
Plan of Action: We will choose a date the typically falls during harvest and planting season. The FFA chapter
will utilize funds made from our fundraisers to purchase burgers, buns, chips, and bottled water to include in
the meal and all freshman FFA members will be required to bring a dessert to add to the meal. We will work
closely with our school booster club to utilize their grills and facilities to prepare the meals for delivery.
Outcome: EXCEEDED FFA members prepared 120 meals for local farmers and delivered each of the meals to
the field so that the farmers could enjoy a hot meal while working during such a busy time.

Goal #2
Goal: Deliver fifteen more meals than we did in 2019.
Plan of Action:By advertising for Harvest Heroes and Planting Heroes we will be able to reach more people and
give back to more farmers in the community. This will help us ensure that we are reaching as many community
members as possible. We will work closely with our alumni to spread the word and promote this activity. We
will also encourage more members to participate in the activity by promoting the amazing opportunities this
activity allows.
Outcome: EXCEEDED In 2019 we delivered 100 meals to local farmers. By spreading the word and
advertising our event, we were able to deliver 120 meals to local farmers during our fall Harvest Heroes in
2020.

Goal #3
Create maps of the local area to ensure that every field within our county had been covered by FFA
Goal:
members for meal delivery.
Using Google Maps, our officer team will create boundaries within the county and assign groups
Plan of Action:
to each section. This will help us make sure that we were covering every field and every possible farmer in the
area working to harvest their crop. Each group will be given a map to help them navigate to fields in the
county. Members will hopefully be able to reach more farmers and interact with more community members.
Outcome: MET The week before hosting our event, we printed off maps with boundaries labeled. Each
section was assigned to a group of five members who then delivered the meals to the farmers in the fields.

Summary
Advancing Community: This activity helped us in many ways to advance the community. We helped the farmers to
stay full and continuing to work on their fields and get all of their crops harvested. Most farmers take a lot of time
out of their day to go somewhere to ea lunch and it can cause late nights or time problems down the road, so us
taking it too them it saves the farmers a lot of time. It taught the chapter how to figure out a plan, go through with
it, and make sure it is perfect.
Impact:The intended audience for this activity was the farmers in the community and the surrounding areas.
They were very grateful for the food and nourishment we brought to them in the fields. It saved them a lot of time
and gave them the energy to get through the rest of the day. Most farmers enjoy getting food in the fields but
seeing the name Lakeview FFA come up and give it to them means more especially if they are alumni of the
chapter.
The quality of standard for the activity is the Building Communities one. This activity
Related to Quality Standard:
really strengthens our community as it shows the community we care about them. This means they will show up
to our other activities and help the chapter.

Building Communities - Activity 3 - Stakeholder Engagement

FFA members formed assembly lines to efficiently package and deliver 120 meals to area farmers in the
field during harvest season. The meals include a hamburger, chips, dessert, and a water bottle. In the bag
we also include a "Thank You" to thank our local farmers for all that they do for our chapter and our
community. Once the meals are packaged they are then loaded and delivered to all farmers within our
community. This is a great opportunity for FFA members to interact with community members and give

Strengthening Agriculture - Activity 3 - Agricultural Literacy
KFFD
Kindergarten Farm Fun Day is located at a local area Farm of one of the members in FFA. It is the last activity of
the school year for the FFA. During this event Kindergarten students from local schools are able to come out and
experience a farm for maybe the first time. They will get to see animals and machinery.

Goal #1
Goal: Educate children from local schools about livestock safety.
We will set up different stations for different species of livestock to educate kindergarteners on
Plan of Action:
how to properly handle and be around livestock in the safest way possible. Students will get to interact with
high school FFA members and learn about livestock while also getting to interact with a variety of livestock
species. This also gives FFA members the opportunity to teach young students about livestock and farm
safety.
Outcome: MET We brought in cattle, sheep, and pigs to teach kindergarteners about how to safely be around
livestock and learn more about raising livestock and how agriculture affects their daily lives.

Goal #2
Goal: Keep children safe while interacting with high school FFA members at different rotations.
Plan of Action:It is important to keep safety as a priority while children are around animals and large machinery.
The FFA members helping with the activity need to keep a close eye on all of the children throughout the day,
and keep them at a safe distance from animals while they are learning about them. We will ensure that each
group of kindergarteners has at least two high school members as group leaders to ensure the safety of all
children and livestock.
Outcome: MET Throughout the entire event we did not have any injuries or mishaps. FFA members worked
hard to ensure the safety of every student at the event.

Goal #3
Goal: Bring in two types of machinery to educate kindergarteners about.
Plan of Action:We will work with local farmers to bring in equipment to be used to educate students about
safety and to simply introduce them to the machinery that we use in the agriculture industry. FFA members will
prepare information and present to each group about how to be safe around each specific type of machinery
and how the equipment works. For many students, this may be the first time they have ever seen farm
equipment up close.
Outcome: MET We were able to partner with local farmers to bring in a combine and a tractor to use during
our event. Both pieces of equipment were a huge hit and provided a huge learning opportunity.

Summary
Advancing Agriculture:This event helped our chapter by allowing members the opportunity to speak to an
audience and interact with area kindergarteners who will eventually impact our agriculture industry. This event is
one of the largest events that our chapter hosts and allows us the opportunity to educate young children about
agriculture in the hopes that they will develop a passion for the industry and eventually join our chapter.
Impact: This event makes a huge impact on the students that attend. Kindergarteners get to not only learn about
agriculture and how it affects their daily lives and were their food comes from, but they also get to learn about
farm safety. Students get to interact with FFA members and local farmers to gain priceless knowledge. We hope
that this event makes a last impact on all students and even teachers that attend.
