Summary. I n a short-circuited p r e p a r a t i o n of r a t j e j u n u m , there are two sodium pumps, one etectrogenic and t h e other
neutral, W h e n energy sources are limited, t h e t o t a l sodium transfer is limited. I n t h e presence of a n o n - m e t a b o l i z e d
a c t i v e l y transferred hexos e, the electrogenic p u m p is preferentially used. The neutral sodium p u m p is only able to
function when additional energy is availab!e.
