Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

Chapter One
Spiral Dynamism

FIRSTLY, MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND the basic concepts of

philosophy, psychology and sociology. The basic terminologies
help us better manifest the concepts in our minds. The conceptual
understanding of Spiral Dynamism will make us able to categorize
the society into certain types. There are going to be atleast five
parts and I will be focusing on every part on every single stage of
the spiral dynamic model. We will be discussing the blue, orange,
green, yellow and turquoise dimensions.
Spiral Dynamism is a model developed by Don
Beck and Christopher Cowan based on the work of the professor
Clare Graves and he developed the psychological model with
these different colored stages which represents the evolution of
human consciousness both individually and collectively across all
human history. And it ends up being an accurate model. It’s
absolutely not accountable for each and every single thing that
happens in your life. But as far as model goes, this can be
extremely useful. The spiral dynamism tells us that there are
these discrete stages that the human mind passes through. The
society is all what is in our minds. What governs politics, what

2
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

structures the society, what governs culture and religion and

science & innovation and all such stuff? It’s ultimately the values
and the world views that are inside the human minds and we
develop these complicated societies. But they are not really as
much complicated as we think. A society tends to be at a certain
level of psychological and spiritual development. And so that’s
what this model tracks and it’s extremely useful. You are part and
parcel of your society, your culture, and your religion and your
science you believe in. You have been programmed with the pre-
dominant set of values and world views your society has in this
day and age. So, it will be useful to understand, how this develops
and evolves over time.
So this model is useful for your own self actualization and
spiritual development and even more useful collectively to
understand whats happening in the world, what is happening in
our politics, spirituality, economics, and culture wars etc. There is
so much confusion these days and people are so unconscious
about it they just quarrel with each other and don’t understand
each other and then there comes a polartization. Everybody
become agitated and bitter and they don’t see the bigger picture.
With this bigger picture you will understand everything. These
colors of spirals are just arbitrary; they don’t specifically mean
anything other than just a label or a set of values. So, the spiral
dynamism tells us that you are at this one particular stage and you
will have to go to the higher stage. Mostly, this happens that
when people get adult they stuck at one of these stages. Because
they don’t understand that this model exists, they don’t have

3
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

enough perspective to see that there is something higher that

they can evolve to. There are a lot of traps in navigating the
spirals, a lot of obstacles because of the Ego for moving to the
next stage. Spiral Dynamism helps modeling sets of values and
cultural memes which govern your life individually and
collectively.
It helps you to understand and tolerate the ignorance and
lack of development of people below you on the spiral and that
becomes very important because otherwise you will be stuck
criticizing those who are less evolved than you. And eventually
you will not be focusing on your own development. In order to
understand all the stages of spiral dynamics, it’s really important
for you to know as many examples as you can because it’s going
to help you relate a lot of things with the different stages of
spirals.

Stage Blue: The most suitable title that you can give to this stage
is “conformist or absolutist”. This is also reffered to be as the rise
of civilization. Blue is the alsolute belief in one right way and
obedience to authority which was the driving force behind rise of
civilization. A long before when men were living in small tribes but
then those tribes became to accumulate and started living in
bigger tribes. That time of tribes is taken as to be within the red
spiral which is the very ancient type of living style with very old
belief systems and cultural norms, mainly alpha-male dominated
society. In order to evolve from such societies, you need a set of
organizing principles for that society and with a common purpose

4
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

to evolve. The stage blue relies heavily on God or a high authority.

If you cross the rules set by that authority, then you will be
punished as a result of not obeying to the God. These stages
should not be judged on basis that this is good or bad but they all
should be looked with their own different characteristics since
they are all different by all means. So, every stage on the spiral is
going to be either collectivist or individualistic. The collectivist
stage is going to emphasize sacrificing of the self for some higher
cause or civilization whereas the individualistic colours and stages
are going to emphasize the self more. The essence of blue is that
you are sacrificing yourself for your particular civilization in hope
of getting a differed reward often times in the afterlife. So this is a
strong emphasis on the religion and after-life.

The keywords which I am going to give you now are those

with which you will be able to make friendship with anyone
who is in the blue stage of spiral dynamism.

The list of all the values of this stage is given below:

1. Absolute Truth and Idealogy
2. Belief, Faith and serenity
3. Hardwork, Discipline and Duty
4. Sense of clear right and wrong
5. Law and Order is a lot valuable
6. Justice is very important
7. No need to innovate
8. Hierarchy and Social Status
9. Values Patriarcy
10. Meaning and Greater Purpose
11. Morality is very important

5
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

12. High value to culture, tradition and heritage

13. Working for righteous cause
14. Values theology and orthodox
15. Values Family institution
16. Values obedience and reverts
17. Respect for Elders
18. Patriotism is of great importance
19. Values decency, morals and etiquettes
20. Sensitive to blasphemy
21. Prayers are extremely important
22. Rituals and Ceremonies are important
23. After-life is valued a lot
24. Values punctuality
25. Restraint of passion and self control
26. Values charity
27. Values loyalty and humbleness
28. Hate for the traitors
29. Values borders with the neighbours
30. Dedicated and Responsible
31. Lawlessness and disorder triggers blue
32. Sinners must be punished
Its un-questionable, they have full belief in this. The word
“Idealogy” means a lot to the people of blue stage. Their whole
life is grounded within idealogy. They have no doubt that their
idealogy could be ever mistaken. Justice goes hand in hand with
the enforcement of the rules of any civilization. Stage blue is not
about civilization in the abstract. They don’t just want to civilize
the whole world. They only want to implement their own
civilization in the whole world, and if you disobey this civilization,
then you are going to be a sinner and deserve punishment
according to the blue stage. They want hierarchy, social order and
social status. There is no need to be progressive or to innovate.
Men are the enforcers and they do all the work, and the women

6
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

get all the benefits and they raise the children. Women are not
allowed to be the priest. This is the hierarchy, and if we take this
away according to stage blue then the society is going to collapse.
There is no materialistic gain for which the people live rather the
purpose should be to give and earn respect, and to be a good
human. Ultimately, the aim of blue stage is to serve the God.
These people are very strong in their morals and if someone
breaks the morality then they are sinners. Morality is not some
relativistic, cultural norm. Morality is absolute. Blue stage people
are very sensitive to be attacked on the cultural grounds. They
don’t want to change the culture infact they need to defend our
culture and preserve our heritage. Any deviation from the
absolute truth as written in the scriptures is corruption and
failure. It values family very much. Blue stage people are very
patriotic people. They claim their country to be the best always.
You have a strong moral code of conduct. You have a sense of
honor and you don’t want your honor to be disturbed. Such
people value decency, manners and etiquettes. Proper dresses
and uniforms are of keen importance to the people of stage blue.
They find profanity very offensive. The religious and national
documents are very sacred to the people of stage blue. These
people believe that the absolute truth can be written in a book
and it should be memorized as a prayer and it is of utmost
importance.
The authority which is having control on everything and every
human being is having the divine status. The authority has been
given this status by God and the God tells how the system should

7
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

be managed and how the working should be done in the society.

The heaven, hell and salvation are all very real to blue stage
people. These are not just ideas and myths but these are the
realities. This life is for serving to the after-life. The blue stage
people are totally opposite to the thinking of promoting sexual
desires and passions related to the self control. The emotions let
your ego become wild and structurally unfit which is not in
parallel with the idealogy of blue stage people. It values building
moral fibre and character. Character, integrity and dignity are the
basis of blue stage. The blue stage evolves from the red stage and
it happens when the red stage is obvious towards it limitations.
The red stage is very much ego-centric, selfish and impulsive. It
lacks discipline, structure and hierarchy. This concept is not going
to work with the thousands of people to establish a harmonious
and a peaceful society. Stage blue helps the red to evolve from
this type of behavior and control the passions in a positive way
because we can not be selfish. We have to sacrifice for our
civilization for the peace as per the blue stage people. Structures
are put in place in order to enforce the discipline and the rules are
laid down. You can not have a blood-thirsty dictator who is
running a big civilization and it’s actually doesn’t work. The blue
emerges out of red because red has no higher purpose and red
does not submit to any God. When you are born into a strongly
blue civilization then you are not going to notice the blue
emerging rather you will be just indoctrinated into blue because
blue is about the one absolute right truth. You will be just
indoctrinated into blue stage values from birth that it’s going to

8
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

be a brain-washing. You are not going to realize that you are

within the blue stage. This is going to be your reality and its going
to be like this until you die.
There are several degrees of blueness. Maybe there are
strongly blue stage believing people and civilization and maybe a
little blue stage believing people. You will be having a gradation in
blue. You maybe totally indoctrinated into blue but then you start
to see the limits of indoctrination and this leads you to change the
scope of your stage at which you are present. The characteristics
of blue are based on the oneness and submission to the highest
authority. Blue has a purpose with pre-determined outcomes.
Managing and organizing are the core characteristics of blue.
Being concrete and strong helps the blue to flourish and establish.
It’s predictable and trustworthy. Always involved in righteous,
stable and obedient living and the concept of guilt is very critical
for the people of blue stage. This is because the impulsivity is
always controlled through guilt. So this is why you should have sex
out of marriage because you are going to feel guilty afterwards
and the feeling of sin will be taking you out of the limitations of
blue and at the end you will be out of control of the commands of
higher authority. The presence of the blue can easily be
recognized in several ways. It’s present in the presence of order
and structure. The form of the game is the topic of conversation
and not the game itself. In the conversations the people will talk
more about the rules of the game than the content. Since there is
a presence of blue, so in a similar way there would be an absence
of blue. The absence of blue can be found when there is absence

9
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

of rules and the actions are mainly adhoc. Many changes of

direction prompted by changing condition of life and the people
are emotionally involved and even express this. The people get
involved in the projects but they could never take the project to
an end.
The characteristics for this stage are given below which will make
it easier to get to this stage in terms of leadership:
1. Create order and security. Be clear about within which
boundaries people can act and what people can expect.
Gives transparency about choices that are being made.
2. Dedicated, be responsible and meticulous. Give the correct
example.
3. Capture the plotted lines in a clear and organized schedule
with an overview of time paths, next steps, milestones and
evaluation moments. Show perseverance and finalize ac-
tivities.
4. Trustworthy and predictable and be respectable and sta-
ble.
5. Address people, be consequent, be committed, check,-
and-double-check, and link consequences to agreements
made.

There are also some manifestations which are very important to

take under consideration. These manifestations are healthy as
well as unhealthy.
Healthy Manifestations:
 Concrete, meticulous, reliable, steer a straight course, fair
and without surprises.
 Work in a structured manner supported by what is
needed.
 Clear communication lines aimed at a secure and save
working environment.

10
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

 Clear decisions without white noise and with clear expec-

tations, made SMART.

Unhealthy Manifestations:
 Hard, strict, polarizing, fixed and inflexible. Judging and
cold. Finds fault with everything.
 Extreme bureaucracy. Stick to the rules because those are
the rules.
 Continuously striving for perfection, even when solutions
are already workable.

Stage Orange: This stage comes after the blue stage. This is
perhaps the most important stage to talk about about because
this is probably the stage at which most people come into. This is
because in the western democracies, first world countries and
even the third world countries, this stage is cultured after being
inspired by the globally known American civilization or culture.
This maybe done through the internet and the Hollywood movies
and all such stuff and this all embodies the stage orange. This
world view is discussed because this is what spiral dynamism is all
about. The way we got all this is that we have been programmed
in a way and conditioned with the set of values depending on
which culture and area we grew up in, and the problem is not that
we hold this to be the only set of values or world views but for us
this is the way how we live. We hold this to be the absolute truth
and the only way it should be. We also try to impose our world
view and values to everybody else and this is because we are
looking at the world from our limited world view.

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at

11
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

all.”
Aristotle

We don’t really understand the world and then we will be having

the political battles and debates and tradition and science and all
sorts of conspiracy theories and the stuff that we don’t
understand that how this all is happening? This is because we are
looking at the world with our own little aperture of observation.
And we really don’t understand the greater complexity and how
the mind gets programmed with this mind language such as its
software that determines how we will interact with everything in
life. Our color on this psychological model like blue or orange or
green is just a set of values that basically determines how we
think about the life. It determines what a good relationship is?
And it determines how the human beings should interact with one
another. It determines what kind of food is right food and what
kind of clothing is the right clothing. It even determines that what
type of government is the right government. It determines that
how education should be like? And how politics and business
should be like? It determines the views on the gender realities
and how the societies should be structured? All of this is dictated
by the spiral dynamics stage that we are at. Lets per say that most
of the people in modern and the highly developed countries are in
the stage orange since it’s the most closest to their thinking and
beliefs.

“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.

12
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

The important thing is not to stop questioning.”

Albert Einstein

These modern people whom we discussed about are between

blue-orange and orange-green. So very few people nowadays are
purely solid blue to whom we can say the most religious even.

“THERE IS NOTHING IMPOSSIBLE TO HIM

WHO WILL TRY.” ALEXANDER THE GREAT
The role of our media today is so much heavy that those people
who even want to come into the pure blue spiral stage are unable
to come. So most of the people, even those who are most
religious and conservative in all the modern countries such as
America or Canada. They are even not in the solid blue spiral, they
maybe in a half blue and half orange. Even the Christian and
people of all other religions are heavily influenced by the business
ideas and the capitalist ideas that the orange stage embodies and
then a Little bit evolved people that are stuck between green and
orange. So they have orange and green both stages in them.
Because of the Movies they watch and because they are
interested in Money and success and also that they are interested
in higher greener values which is more that they care about
morality, equality and environment. So they are not fully in green
stage. And so now we have this battle and that is what is being
taken in western battles and politics. This is between half blue-
half orange people and have half orange-half green people. We

13
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

could find postitions along the spirals which are much further
apart and yet at the same time, it feels like there are such
enemies and such polar opposites and its very interesting how it
Works. So, i would again like to give credit to Clare Graves, Don
Beck and Christopher Cowan for their research and developing
this model because spiral dynamism is a complicated model which
need a lot of years and these people have spent their entire lives
in its research and development. Most of the people especially
the modern people nowadays are so much indoctrinated in
orange that they seem to be blind into it and they are unknown to
this situation. So it can be very useful to become conscious of the
mental software that is running all of our behaviours in the entire
life. So let us be down to it and understand what it actually mean.
It’s the individual achievement and improving the self through
certain calculations. We start to act for our own interests and we
start playing our own game which is actually the shift from the
blue stage and the blue stage was actually about the sacrifice for
others and for the sake of civilization. It was actually about the
sacrifice for the country and even for the after-life. So, discipling
ourselves for now will be helping us in a better result at the end.
Whereas the orange stage signifies the importance of the present
world and give least or no importance to the after-life and the
material life is the most important life for the orange stage
people. Such people focus on improving this world to resist the
opposition of such blue stage thoughts. Orange stage people tend
to focus on rise of materialism, capitalism, consumerism,
business, secular-humanism, popular culture, science, technology,

14
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

success oriented self-help and the rise of the secular democracy.

The list of all the values of this stage is given below:
1. Achievment, success and the excellence
2. Climbing the top in success always
3. Upward mobility
4. Opportunities
5. Improving position in life
6. Values efficiency and progress
7. Values optimization and productivity
8. Extremely manipulative
9. Creative exploitation
10. Values action resulting in rationalism
11. Wants tangible goods and material profit
12. Values the never ending growth
13. Values capitalism and libertarianism
14. Values Competition
15. Values hardwork, business and entrepreneurship
16. Self improvement is very important
17. Values confidence, optimism and charisma.
18. Wants entertainment and showmanship
19. Gives personal freedom
20. It is self-relient and independent
21. Values free speech
22. Values money, desires and luxury
23. Values networth
24. Values physical appearance
25. Values the brands and the brandism
26. Values mass market and sales
27. It values rationality, logic and science
28. Values science and facts based education
29. Values the IQ
30. Values strategic and risk analysis
31. Values the creative thinking and innovation
32. Values maintaining competitive edge
33. Values the recoginition and awards
34. Values the win-win situations

15
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

35. Seperation between the religion and education

36. Strives for autonomy and independence
37. Values credentials from academic community
38. Values scientific expertise
39. Values experience rather than metaphysical speculations
40. Orange is highly left brain, logical and rational
41. Success is mechanical
42. Orange is Opportunity seeker
43. Orange is about preserving whole capitalist enterprise

The system in blue stage was totally against that we have

discussed in the orange stage. In this stage, we can improve our
self and our modern behavior which was also given uplift because
of the new technology that we have today. As the upward
mobility become possible and as that opens up the orange
becomes obsessed with becoming the number one and the best
and the winner in every field. Nowadays, we do feel in such a way
and we like to be the best in our sports and the best in our
schools and that is something with which we all are being
indoctrinated with. The stage orange wants each and everything
to be optimized and it values gaining of the system and
manipulation. The stage orange can be extremely manipulative by
manipulating resources to get the successful and the desired
outcomes that are wanted in the society. Creative exploitation
actually refers to the exploitation of the person or the entity in
order to get the desired result which is actually just wanted for
the sake of capitalism. Orange doesn’t care about the after-life or
about the meta-physical ideas. Orange stage wants to take actions
and wants the results. This aims in providing more space to the
competition in the market by helping competitive market places,
de-regulation and de-nationalization. It tells us all to be just
fighting for ourselves because this is all about the personal gain
and individualism. Orange stage people say that we don’t need all
this philosophical stuff in the present day and age. Since
everybody is fighting for their personal & material gain. This stage
values the winner and the winner values the most for all the
situations. This stage person feels pride to be the competitor and

16
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

then the rise of self-help industry gave more power and courage
to all the competitors of the society. The self-help industry that
became most important in this stage and eventually it took the
place of the religion and tradition which were meant for self-help
basically. The orange stage always wanted to secularize the
religion and thus all of the concepts related to self help which
were present in the religion were made so confused that the self-
help industry seems to be the only path of help in this modern
and industrialized world. Orange self-help is all about the
prosperity. How do we prosper and climb to the top of every field.
How do we manipulate better. A lot of orange self-help is about
how we manipulate the marketplace to sort of improve our stage
in life. Because of this, orange starts to value skills, knowledge and
education. The aquisation of skills become paramount for orange
people abilities to climb the way to the top. Orange values
confidence, optimism and charisma. The orange stage spiral
dynamism believes that everyone should strive toward self-
relience and independence. The dependence on the welfare state,
religion, government is just a cruch. The progress in life of a
person who possesses the orange stage dynamism is judged by
the progress in money, status and luxury. This values physical
appearance, beauty, youth and coolness. This also refers to the
concept of YOLO which means that you only live once. So with this
also comes the consumerism, it’s all about buying new mobile
phones, new Gucci shirts and purses, new Rayban glasses to look
cool and smart and to fit in the culture of fashionable and modern
world. The celebrity culture, popular culture and the social media
are the parallel things to the orange stage. The celebrities are the
glorification to the orange stage. These celebrities represent the
orange ideals being actualized. The people who are into this
orange stage look to those ideals which are very famous and seem
to be the very fashionable stars of today world. These people
become admired from them and they always try to follow them.
Common people try to become the celebrity. This is all about the
sales and how we increase the sales. This tells how we can take
the products and take them into the mass market and then
increase their sales. This may include almost anything like mass-

17
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

market books, mass-market movies, and massive food market,

everything is all about mass-market. The industrial revolution and
factories are its different phases. The rationalism, humanism and
logic are the most key characteristics of orange that it swings
away from the belief, religion, faith and just the blind obedience
to the authority. The orange stage wants pragmatism, imperialism
and skepticism and it applies it nearly to everything except to
itself such as science. The orange stage do not care about the
meta-physics and it feels like the meta-physics is like a speculative
non-sense which gets us in trouble and so it says that meta-
physical is just non-sense and there is nothing within the meta-
physics. This leads to paint orange because orange does have the
meta-physics and its meta-physics is actually materialism,
atheism, reductionism or evolution. This is actually seen as the
reality by the orange rather just as meta-physics. The true orange
believers would say that this is all true about the materialism
because this gives us the output and benefits in the material gain.
Orange stage states that the concepts have been proved a long
ago and now what is only true is all that we have whether it
maybe the technology or the science. These people say that
everything today is more productive and more efficient and how
every other good thing could be made when the technology could
not be so much advanced such as the development of aeroplance,
computers and even the artificial intelligence nowadays.
Sometimes, it happens that orange stage believes that the blue is
less developed and it is more superior to the blue stage spiral.
This is so because the orange thinks that its transcended blind
indoctrination and sort of authority figures and to transcend that
is good but there is something beyond that as well. Orange
doesn’t realize and understand the limits of the rationality or
science. Orange values the technology very highly. It values
analysis and fact. Everything can be quantified and fitted with an
algorithm and a mathematical equation according to orange spiral
whereas in the blue spiral, the education and everything else was
based on indoctrination. Orange moves a little bit further and
orange stages are now about teaching science, math and history
which orange figures out to be factual & true in an objective

18
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

manner which is absolutely not true because there is nothing

factual about the way orange teaches children to be in the orange
spiral. But it’s a different level of indoctrination than blue. It’s
different to blue but still very limited. Orange values double blind
studies and it values the scientific methods, but the blue
eventually changes this scientific method into the religious
method and traditional method. It values the IQ because
everything else could be quantified and the intelligence can now
easily be quantified with a few tests, and so now tests our IQ and
that is something which will determine how much rationalistic are
we? How good could we reason the logic and how good the
scientist we could be and that is the truth.
The orange stage values the results and believes that the
bottomline matters the most of all. It values competence rather
than the rank or bloodlines. Whereas in the red and in blue, the
positions in the organization often really didn’t had to do anything
with the skills, competence or knowledge, but it had to do with
the rank, caste and even the blood relations. The orange starts to
evolve when the blue realizes the limitations of itself, and when
it’s taken to its ultimate conclusion, blue starts to notice that the
absolute truth which seemed to be so real and certain but in
actual its not that much real. We then start to realize that maybe
the world is not so black and white and maybe the division
between good and evil are not so clear. There comes the point
where we start thinking that maybe the others are not true and
the blind obedience to the authority can be a second choice and
then we shift towards thinking of ourselves, investigating reality
empirically for oneself in order to verify and determine about
what the truth is really all about? This became the historical
scientific revolution and then a little bit later the industrial
revolution came into being. That’s how orange emerged out of
the blue. And as that starts to happen, science makes new
discoveries which allow for new sorts of technology and this
technology radically transforms the culture and it starts to
undermine the certainity of the religion and as that happens the
population starts to desire more of a separation between the
religious institutions and the state. The limitations of fusing the

19
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

religious institution and the state together into a theocracy start

to become very clear because then what you will have is the
oppression from the religious authorities and then it will result
into diversity of both worlds. This is because the state gets
injected by the religion and the religion gets injected by the state.
And that becomes a problem, so then people want to separate
them out and that separation of the domains of religion and
science. So, the science starts saying that we will only be doing
the empirical investigation and don’t really care about the
metaphysical questions about the morality, actuality or the divine.
Those things are not scientific, so science would only focus on the
facts and then if the other people want to debate on metaphysics
or anything else. There is some tolerance within orange form of
religion but mostly they don’t about the religion and morality.
There is a seperation between the religion and education which is
very disturbing for the blue because blue believes it as absolute
truth so it wants to indoctrine the truth whereas orange says to
do science always. Often times, orange becomes skeptical in a
toxic manner with the transition into orange there is an
awakening to science and rationality which is why orange finds a
lot of blue people to be irrational, we cannot argue with them and
give reasons and make them able to accept the facts. This stage
become highly pragmatic and starts to desire personal success
because in blue it was about the sacrifice for the after-life and
after certain time, sacrificing again and again but what if we have
only one life. What if there is no after-life then we will be wasting
our life too according to the orange. So, orange decides to live this
life and get success in this life since there is no rational thinking
about the after-life. Orange always thinks to deal with the present
social problems of the world rather than always thinking about
the after-life. Orange tends to focus on the present matters and
improving the present state of people who are present in world
today. Orange becomes not the pursuit of the religious righteous
life but the pursuit of prosperity and the idea that technology will
solve all the mankind problems.

Characteristics of Orange Stage:

20
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

The orange stage is characterized by drive of personal desires,

success and status. This stage strives for the autonomy and
independence. This stage always seeks good life and the material
abundance, and also characterized by having the notion that
progress always comes from learning nature’s secrets and finding
the best solutions which we do from the science. It also
manipulate the earth resources that how do we become able to
build the stuff which we need to make life easy for everybody.
This is because if the life becomes easy then all the problems of
people will be resolved and everybody will be happy. For this
stage, the society is prosperous through strategy, technology and
competition. This stage focuses on making the competition
between the people because this will resist the people to become
lazy whereas the competition will make people do great things in
life and achieve the success. Orange always tries to uncover the
mysteries of the universe and the world via science and
mathematical algorithms. There is a desire to secularize and
demystify everything. Fundamentally orange believes that there is
nothing mysterious about the reality and everything can be
demystified as long as we do more science. The implicit meta-
physics of orange which it doesn’t recognize is the big bang,
atoms and brains. This stage believes in objective and external
reality. Orange is very confident and certain that there are no
devil, after-live, angels, divine, spirits or ghosts because the reality
is totally physical and material. There are only neurons in the
brain. The miracles are impossible, healing is impossible,
paranormal is not reality and all such realities are not the realities
rather these are only concepts. Orange claims that is we cannot
quantify a thing then it doesn’t exist such as love, since we cannot
quantify the love so it doesn’t exist. The intelligence is something
that we can quantify through any test and method and it also
seems to be scientific. The blue people claims to be more moral
and righteous and claim to be following the principles of God
which helps to eradicate the evil whereas the orange thinks there
is still a lot of evil even if the blue have believed in the divine and
the religion. The blue people and the religious people are
hypocrites in the views of orange stage people. The orange thinks

21
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

that there is a presence of inability of stage blue to fight for the

cases which are causing the problems in the society and
promoting the evil activities. Strong logical thinking and critical
observation are the key factors to be understood in this stage.
Orange is big on acquisition of knowledge in a material fashion.
Knowledge is accumulated like material, like possessions and
facts. Self appreciation and expression comes through
competition. Orange believes that compassion, love and emotions
are only a bunch of meta-physical thoughts with no or zero
outcomes. A well functioning business, infrastructure, factories,
employees and the workers, accumulation of wealth and gold,
technology and the material gain is the success for orange. The
examples of orange may include Sillicon Valley, super models,
startups, venture capitalists, bilgates and such economic giants.
Since Bilgates is getting older so he is getting closer to the green
and yellow stages of spirals. Bilgates and Warren Buffett thinks
that they should be worring about the society rather than just
getting worried about the economics and wealth and stuff like
that. Other examples include casinos, theme parks, wall street
people, industrialists, corporate leaders, CEOs of big companies,
Disney, Walmart, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Facebook and such
companies are pure orange stage based. This is also done by
monetizing the great characters being made by Disney,
Marvelous, Lego, and Pixar studios and this is done by making
certain things and products such as soaps by their names,
shampoos, food items, clothes and there is no shame for them to
monetize their intellectual properties and ofcourse they also pay
for all this.
What these companies do is that they take orange to the extreme
and what that will result into is that this makes the cow go dry
because of taking excess of milk. Such companies as used a
metaphor overmilks the cow and this makes all the system to
clash. The capitalist system is not good because it clashes itself.
The facebook tries to put itself as green but in reality the
facebook is just stealing the data of everybody. Mark Zuckerber
after getting the billion of dollars and now is seeing that there is
more to the world rather than the increment his facebook

22
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

subscribers and followers. So, where is he going to from this

stage, mark will go to the more green stage. Mark Zuckerberg is
going to develop a social conscious and analyze how everything
affects the other things. The profit which is made by Mark
Zuckerberg is all that he achieved in the orange stage. Electronic
arts is another example which makes the orange people think that
it’s pure orange but what the great company EA did is that micro-
transactions also getting the capital by making little loops in the
games and upgrades and such stuff. All this happens when the
orange goes to the peak. The medicine industry is a lot corrupted
nowadays and this is involved totally in the orange stage. The CEO
of Oracle company Mark Hurd is fully orange and Steve Ballmer is
the perfect embodiment of orange stage even the energy that
Steve has is just like the leadership style, charisma and pure
orange lifestyle. The news shows and the liberal media such as
CNN, BBC and the Fox news are all the examples of orange stage
media. Mostly the mainstream news nowadays is lying in the pure
orange dynamic stage of spirals. It is all about advertising vows
and it’s not about the idealogical positions and thinking for them.
Orange is actually against the true progressiveness because that
can not flourish in media of today, what only matters is the
materialistic success and the TRP. This is so because that all
enterprise is about making advertisements of others and
achieving monetization.
Software Industry including the ecommerce, gaming industries,
technical companies, personal and private consultation
companies all the other stuff related to the software and IT are all
great examples of orange stage. Real Estate Tycoons and the
Banking sector tycoons like Rockefeller who are so much indulged
in the economy increments that they really don’t care about the
conscious or the desire to find the truth about the universality.
The characteristics for this stage are given below:
1. Synergy between all forms and forces of life
2. Surrender, acceptance and natural joy
3. Integrates instincts, intuition and cognition
4. Makes energetic connections
5. Contemplative, a clear consciousness and inner peace

23
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

6. A holistic and collective consciousness

7. Cosmic spirituality and transpersonal
8. Global perspectives are more important than local, small
and specialist groups; to be a holistic whole is as important
as being a part of something
9. Integration of all there is, with everything that was and ev-
erything that will be. A vision is translated into an integral
approach of life and an accompanying practice

There are also some manifestations which are very important to

take under consideration. Manifestations of Turquoise act as the
dominant value system in our society. The community projects
integrate the economical, sustainable, human, spiritual and
planetary dimensions of living, dwelling and working with the
realities which are not immediately visible.
Stage Green: This stage comes after the orange stage. Most of
the people of this stage probably stuck between orange and
green. It is the behavior of most the people of first world
countries. Such people maybe between 50% of both the stages
and especially those people who went to colleges and had some
degrees, also the level of education of those people is very
profound. We are going to look into the limitations of stage green
and how to transcend it into yellow which is tier 2 thinking. The
essence of green is that it’s relativistic, caring, communal and
environmental. So we can say that the pendulum of
understanding has swung once again and it alternates between
serving the self and serving the collective. This type of movement
of understanding is mostly to and fro. So, we can say that blue
was serving the collective, orange was serving the self and now
green is again serving the collective but in a more elevated way
than that of what blue was doing. So, for green stage we are not
sacrificing the Self not for some after-life ideal but the sacrifice is
basically for more human inclined behaviours and for a better
community. Green recoginises the validity of other cultures and
species which blue stage was having certain problems with. Green

24
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

recoginses the validity of different races, it’s very multi-cultural in

this manner. Green is all about peace, equality, justice for all and
harmony in the world. Green stage in a sense reacting to all the
injustices of the blue and of orange and green is for rejection of
shallow materialism which came with orange and its return to
humanity and spirituality which was also rejected by orange.
Green stage is shifting away from cold, logical, scientific and
rational meta-physics into new age semi-spirituality. The stage
green can be encapsulated into word that is “Peace” or “Love”.
The stage emerges when orange takes the materialism, capitalism
and rationalism to its peak and when it’s done, some nasty limits
are found. And then the green emerges when those limits become
obvious and we see that we are unable to solve the problems with
more money, more economy, more industries and more pollution.
When the materialism and success fails to feed the human spirit,
we have got a lot of money in orange but then we realize that
money doesn’t buy any happiness and there is still emptiness in
our selves that we thought will be removed when we get money
but it didn’t happened. So, when we have achieved success and
money then we ask this to ourselves that is this all that we have,
could there be a life other than all this?
After this, we realize that science, technology and capitalism are
not all to have in life. We realize that we have been chasing those
which are not important in life. What we should have to do is that
we should chase happiness, relationships and connections. Then
we realize that life is about the deep human bonds. That’s what is
really satisfying and from here we start moving into the green. As,
in orange we have always been in a sort of competitive world of
the business but now we understand that the competition is
getting less. Why don’t we all just cooperate rather than just
competing with each other, is it not the smarter and healthier way
to live. The stage green wakes up to the concept that it’s not only
my own success but it’s about the success of the whole
community. The sense of “community” has been expanded upon
blue because blue is also about promoting the community except
for blue it’s only about “my civilization” but for green this has
been softened and now the sense of community is not just about

25
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

my race, my country or my state but it’s the entire world. We all

are human beings and there is no comparision whether from
which race, caste or creed we are. We all are basically from the
same origin and we all need the same things. This is what
everybody wants. So, we should give it to them and this is what
green stage thinks like. So, green develops a desire for human
connection and love that is taken partially from the orange stage
too. There is a recoginition of this larger global community. As this
happens, green starts to notice all the inequality and aggression in
the world which was caused by blue and by the orange
materialism. That structure disturbs the green. It says to stop and
ponder that why there is a lot of poverty and why there is so
much slavery in the world. We need to raise everybody up for the
success and peace. Also, when this transition happen then green
starts to realize the environmental impact that orange has been
having and this disturbs orange and it turns it into green. The
orange stage doesn’t care much about the environment because
all what matters is how much money we can get. But green
somehow develops a consciousness and cares about the
environment more which causes the orange to feel guilty about
the damage it did. There is a realization that orange is
unsustainable and we can’t keep on doing what we are doing. We
need a more humane and heart-centered approach. And also
what moves orange into green are the health crises because
orange works so hard while being in the tough and difficult
situations, gets over-stressed by the hardwork and now orange
realizes to get to enjoy the life because orange stage people say
that we have been working eighty hours a week and acquired a lot
of money but we are not able to enjoy our own money. These
people say that we couldn’t even spend time with family and go
to vacation since we have been working from the last ten years
continuously. If we really want to understand the core of the
green stage, then we should think of green as shift from the heavy
left brain thinking of orange to right brain thinking. Or think of it
as opening up of the heart and flowering of the humanity,
compassion and sense of our community. Also, we can think of
green as mellowing out orange, this is so because orange was too

26
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

addicted to work, success and achievement and was not engaging

and enjoying the journey and saving the human life and aspects of
life. Green stage fundamentally believes that everyone is equal.
Green is sort of chilled and relaxed although not always. We
should remember that these all are just generalizations and we
should not expect every green person to fit into this list
completely and even we should imagine ourselves to fit into all
the values perfectly. This is sort of green distilled down to its
essence. It also values flattening of the hierarchies and cultural
relativism which usually means the acceptance of different
cultures. Green doesn’t mean that its own culture is the only
superior culture to every other culture. Finding the common
ground amongst people whenever there is a conflict whether in
any form or situation is the key thing in the stage green. When
you see the green people hugging one another and it makes you
uneasy then that means you are in orange stage and you are
uncomfortable with hugs and human affection. And left brain
thinking is something which you have to get back over. Whenever
you see a big gathering of people and how they greet each other
with big warm hugs then it’s the representation of the green stage
people. Can you imagine a huge cooperate meeting room where
all the huge financial giants and businessmen come to greet each
other and hug each other? No, it not likes that because it’s formal,
stiff, very cruel and also a lot mechanical. Affection damages the
orange spiral. So, the stage green encompasses love and sincerity
with open mindedness and human friendly behavior. This is the
stage where femininity was made able to flourish. The stage blue,
red and orange was all patriarchal and exhibited the alpha male
values. It was all about the power and dominance in various ways.
Alot of left brain dominant artistic men had the issue with this
because they are hooked to their alpha values a lot. And this
thinking leads to make them think that the femininity makes the
other people weak and they are unable to flourish in their phase
of alpha masculinity. Problem is that they get fail to understand
the parallel working of both femininity and masculinity which
make the masculine grow more rather than getting weak.
Exploring the altered states of consciousness which was a taboo

27
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

for the blue stage people and orange stage people also didn’t care
about it because for orange stage people there is no hard physical
reality so exploring other sides of consciousness is a fictional stuff.
The yellow stage values the spirituality whereas the green can be
spiritual but not religious in a way the blue was and especially the
green stage values communal type of spirituality. So we see
people coming towards the meditation and doing spirituality in
communal way. This stage loves to learn from the nature and
environment. This gives value to the recycling and the human
friendly activities. Every person in the organization created by
green will know each other, there will be a connection and all of
them will sort of know every other person. Green values the
redistribution of resources and leveling the plane so that
everyone can have the equal chance. This is so because green is
sad to see all the inequality that is created by capitalism. Values
inclusiveness because in that way everybody will be able to
express themselves and speak their agenda so green doesn’t want
to exclude anybody and it’s very big on tolerance. Green values
creativity, beauty and art. Art is always more true for green
because art comes from the heart. It doesn’t come from the cold,
rational and business strategy. Bringing people of the world
together and spreading socialism. The emotion is an extremely
term for the green stage people. The stage orange was like I am
the capable only and now it’s like we as a community accepting
and loving everybody. Green is sacrificing the self for the social
network community. The feelings and caring supersede cold
rationality for green. It is joining a community to experience
shared growth together so that I am not experiencing the
successful path alone. Green wishes for decisions through
reconciliation and re-consensus which can take a long time. Green
is all about getting together and voting on stuff and talking it out
rather than someone just handing you down orders from a bond
because there is no hierarchy in green. Green is about the mutual
understanding and defines the goals and objectives in human
terms. So, rather than judging the success and progress based on
rise in GDP, net-worth or profits then the green is going to use the
qualitative metrics or something like that because it drives orange

28
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

demented because orange wants to quantify everything and for

orange it doesn’t make sense how objective something like love
or happiness. This is a confusing stuff for the orange. So, if we
want to think of orange like data then it can resemble the robots
of star-trek movie or just like rational cyborgs. The robotic entities
tries to understand the emotions and feelings but it is almost
impossible for it to understand all this even if it use the highest
forms of logical machines and data ever invented. The only way
with which we can understand the emotions is through the heart.
Green is very open to new age concepts that used to frighten the
orange such as reincarnation, spirit, soul, consciousness, karma,
love, intuition, emotional intelligence, energy, finding universal,
alternative medicine, astro-projections, channeling mysticism,
crystals and all other such concepts which were antithetical to
orange and meta-physics now become very acceptable for green’s
meta-physics and green loves this and tends to go with this new-
age stuff which is where we get the stereotype of new-ageism. It
is characterized by connecting with nature, development of
compassion and social networks. The stage green is tolerant in
accepting different views. It seeks to communicate not just
content but also feelings and again this is something from orange
because orange didn’t care about the feelings. When the orange
people talk to each other, they are very pragmatic, it’s like two
computer programmers talking to each other and that talk is
usually just about cold hard facts and then they move on. On the
other side green is like to take the time and make space to discuss
our emotions that how we feel about it which can make orange
stage people very disturbed. Its sort of in a way that in a
relationship, a man and a woman might talk, a man is going to talk
with a more left brain perspective to give the facts whereas the
woman is going to talk from an emotional perspective that how
she is feeling about the facts no matter what the facts are and the
story behind the facts. Green is categorized by entrepreneurship
but tempered with the hard-end humanity. So, it is not like that
green stage is entirely against business and money but there are
many entrepreneurs who are already in the green stage or they
are moving into the green stage. There are a lot of examples in

29
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

the Silicon Valley who are in a state of half orange and half green.
Example of such entrepreneurs is Elon Musk, someone who is
success oriented but still he is now thinking about how do he
create technology and use the business in a more responsible
manner such that he is advancing the mankind and creating a
technological system which will sustain the planet rather than
destroying the planet. The green stage people always encourage
and nourish the employees. The CEO who is in a stage green will
actually go and talk to the employees and ask for their
requirements. Sometimes, this stage feels emotionally needy and
not fulfilled which can also be seen as a weakness. So green is not
sort of having the materialistic and branded stuff like rolex
watches etc. It’s more about developing from inside and not from
outside. So, whenever the green person approaches woman then
he will be more inclined towards the inner personality and
emotions rather than just the physical and outward appearance.
Green is categorized by being individualistic in a conformist way
which is a really interesting paradox. The characteristics for this
stage are given below which will make it easier to get to this stage
in terms of leadership:
1. Strives for harmony, unity and consensus
2. Relationships, sharing and bonding
3. Ecological and environmental consciousness
4. Egalitarian, relativistic, and political correctness
5. Idealistic, humanistic and pacifistic
6. Tolerant and acceptant of different views
7. Emotional, sensitive, and caring
8. Personal growth, spirituality and introspection
9. Ideological and attention for the life environment and the
Planet
10. Development of compassion and social networks
11. Process orientation, communication and dialogue
12. Knowledge sharing, decentralization and bottom up

Healthy manifestations: Attention for emotions and exploring the

inner being of self. Need for community and gathering. Personal

30
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

development is the basis for collective development. Attention,

care and compassion for all people and the Planet.

Unhealthy manifestations: Appeasing, avoiding conflicts, soft and

patronizing. Conflicts are not addresses because harmony is more
important and should not be compromised. When Green adopts
her own wisdom as the only truth it becomes limiting and exclu-
sive and it will exclude everyone who’s not Green. Conversations
tend to take longer and results may not be achieved because of
the continuous search for consensus and the need to include ev-
eryone in the process.

The list of all the values of this stage is given below:

1. It is all about peace and equality
2. It’s very multi-cultural
3. Validity of different races
4. World peace and justice for all
5. It is about love for the fellow men
6. Love, compassion, heart, soul, empathy, intimacy,
kindness, mercy and leniency
7. Humanism, Liberalism, Social Progress
8. Gender equality, Racial equality, Economic equality and
the social equality

12. Supporting Humantarian causes
13. Values activism and protest
14. Have the “live and let live” attitude
15. Values diversity and multi-culturalism

35. Seeking personal growth

Tier 1 and Tier 2: There are basically two tiers in the spiral
dynamism and this is called tier 2. The first tier is all the stuff
beneath yellow stage. This is sort of conventional thinking, that is
how 99% of all the mankind thinks and most of them really don’t
know about the tier 2. Clare Graves describes that tier 2 is a
quantum leap in one’s awareness of reality. It is an awakening to
system thinking and wholeism. Seeing everything in the reality is
deeply interconnected that tier 1 couldn’t even imagine. Tier 2 is
opening up to the awareness of the spiral itself. Now, we don’t
have to know the spiral dynamics to be into our 2 but it helps a
lot. Tier 2 thinkers and observers look back upon human
development, it starts to see these natural levels emerging which
is the thing spiral dynamics is all about. Tier 2 shifts from the
survival into the being. Most of the mankind is not interested in
“Being” rather they are interested in the survival and this notion
of survival means a lot of stuff that the people do normally such
as having family, children, money, hangouts and all the
entertainment, all of that comes under the label of survival and
that is not being, being is something else. There is a shift into the

32
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

tier 2 from needy perception into the being perception. Being

perception is to look at the things for what it is whereas needy
perception is when you look at the things as how it can serve you.
So, literally our entire perceptual system is corrupted and
distorted by the self survival agenda. So, if we are afraid of getting
abused, being manipulated, being exploited, being cheated or left
broke and unable to pay the rent and bills. These are the survival
level fears and cause anxiety and concerns. If we get angry about
this sort of stuff and trouble is managing the survival in life then
that fills the color of how we see this world. Definitely, we will not
be able to perceive the world as it is, but we perceive the world as
it relates to us. So, what we need is how we perceive the world
and it turns out the stuff we don’t need and we even don’t see
and realize that its there and we simply overlook it. That’s how
our ego distorts our entire ego system. With the tier 2 we are
moving beyond that and finally we can look into the world in an
objective manner. Tier 2 drives its values from the magnificence
of itself rather than from selfish interests or the group interests.
With tier 2 there is a much wider and deeper perspective of life.
You are no longer just concerned about the little petty problems
of your own or how to be successful in life but are concerned
about all the problems of mankind and even beyond mandkind
concerne about the problems the entire existence. Ideas become
multi-dimensional in tier 2 and there are a lot of layers of
complexity in the things. There is now awareness of one’s own
perspective. So, we see that we are looking at the world with a
perspective just like everybody else and that every perspective is
partial including our own. So, we no longer give ourselves the
special excuses and justifications that everyone in tier 1 was
giving. The most fundamental problem that is to be realized is
that when they think that it’s the truth and reality which then
whether be blue, orange or green. That is basically how we look at
the world and then we believe that the people who are not
looking at the world from the same perspective as our then they
are somehow deluded, wrong, crazy, insane or cruel or what
other label you give to them. In tier 2, we realize that it’s the
illusion and we all realize that to be alive is to have a perspective

33
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

and there is really no stepping out of one’s perspective. There is

no such thing as objectivity and the way the tier 2 develops
objectivity is by realizing that there is no such thing as objectivity.
The traditional thought which was considered the absolute truth
is no longer the absolute truth and the scientific model which we
thought to be the absolute truth is also no longer the absolute
truth. There is a lot of relativity and subjectivity and perceptions
become the entire game. In tier 2, there is a following of
judgement, criticism and blaming which is very common in tier 1.
Fundamentally that is the biggest problem with tier 1 because
everyone has its own perspective but they don’t realize that they
have their own perspective. They end up judging and criticizing
and blaming everybody else. Everybody else then start fighting
over each other to get dominance and tier 2 is going mega and
seeing that whole dynamics. And then realize that we don’t have
to play all such games because we can get a lot more than that. At
tier 2, the demonization become faulty and nobody looks evil or
demon and it ceases to exist. This is just recoginized to be a selfish
illusion. Tier 2 is non-moralistic and in it the fear is replaced by the
curiosity and care. Tier 2 person is actually the self-actualizing
individual. If the concept of self-actualization and all those
qualities of self-actualized individual resonates with you and
probably does resonate with us then that is probably tier 2. There
is something a little more elevated and more about these self-
actualized individuals. It’s not about the typical person who is just
worried about the work, desires and money and such things. So
the description which we had now was not actually the
description of yellow stage dynamism but it was all about the tier
presence in the spiral dynamism.

Stage Yellow: This stage comes after the green stage. This stage
is the most passionate stage; there is something so special about
this stage. It’s rare to find people in society or media with yellow
stage thinking. We can refer this stage to be systemic, integrative
and multi-perspectival. It takes many perspectives upon reality
and that is its one of the most defining characteristics. It’s a
difference between looking at the world through a spy glass or a

34
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

telescope and the way of looking through one perspective which

is tier 1. The yellow stage is looking at the world through the eye
of an insect, one of the compound eyes or maybe through a
camera that uses multiple lenses. This is the perfect metaphor for
the yellow stage thinking. Such as the telescopes which use
multiple dishes and multiple lenses and then combine all the data
to give the final image output. We can even tell when someone is
coming from that multi-perspective nature and approach then
that person would be a different type of thinker that we actually
see. Yellow shifts its pendulum from green which is collective to
that which is individualistic. So every stage alternates such as
orange was materialistic, blue and green is collective and now
individualistic that is yellow but its different type of individualistic
whereas orange was all about personal success, yellow is about
expressing the self but not at the cost of others. There is
sensitivity and awareness to excessive self interest. Yellow strives
to limit that and yellow is now aware to its footprint. It’s aware of
its footprint within relationship, careful to not hurt people’s
emotions too much. Yellow stage softens the harshness coming
from the green stage. Orange was too much materialistic and
green was too much sacrificing and thus yellow finds a balance
between these two. Yellow understands the magnificence of
existence. This helps in exploring the reality using our minds.
Every perspective is partially true to yellow and there is somewhat
truth to be found in things what other people say or do. If they
think something crazy even then we can find something useful or
something of great importance. Yellow considers itself to be very
open-minded. It is able to consider all the radical perspectives
that stage blue or green would ultimately refuse to. This helps in
the designing and making of integrated and open systems. Yellow
see life as a land of ideas where they can absorb as much ideas
and perspectives as they want and such people are not overly
emotional as green. Yellow emerge from the limitations of green.
Green becomes very communalistic and green goes into the
excess of emotionality. Yellow comes when green develops
increased discernment, so not all perspectives are equal. Some
are better than others and there is a recoginition after we have

35
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

done the green thing of breaking the hierarchies, and now we

realize that maybe there are some things as natural hierarchies
and surely there are those which are man made and even they are
problematic and can be broken down. Maybe they are insufficient
or oppressive but then there are some natural hierarchies, what
about those and then that moves you from green to yellow. Green
ultimately becomes frustrated with fruitless activism. There is a
frustration with criticizing, protesting and activism but without
any output. This is because we might find that the green doesn’t
come up with the highest possible number of solutions and that
the yellow gives the ideas and solutions and the productive or
creative environment. At the end of stage green, we start to see
the wreckage of the entire spiral system. This becomes apparent
to you that every stage is fighting with the “Self” and with the
stages above or below it. The tier 1 basically contributing
endangering the all of mankind. So, as we see this we realize that
all of these perspectives to work together in a healthy manner
which then becomes the obsession of yellow. Ideas become more
interesting to yellow than the community in which green was very
interested. Yellow becomes very interested that how other side
things rather than just criticizing. The yellow stage has now its
own perspective, so we can say that yellow emerges when green
becomes self aware of itself as a perspective and green realizes
that maybe its one out of many perspectives and no perspective is
complete and even though green was about exploring different
perspectives to a certain degree. Green was multi-cultural and it
valued diversity and it was a bit relativistic but still it was doing it
from its own perspective. That if someone gets aggressive with
the green then green would get triggered about it and try to
exclude that one. Yellow starts to see that its own perspective is
not special and green held the position that the perspective of
green was the best and superior to all the other perspectives. So,
orange stage tends to be very technical with the science whereas
yellow relies on the science and now it’s a more holistic approach.
It’s not about the analysis only but it’s also about synthesis.
Bringing the things together, we are not only dissecting
everything but we are bringing things together. The connecting of

36
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

dots is an integral part of yellow because yellow stage is an expert

and master in the understanding of things which people normally
don’t understand properly. Yellow always tries to penetrate into
the core of the issues and identifying the root problems and
solving them. The problem which was with the lower stages was
that they didn’t get to the roots of the problems, they might say
that there is a problem but there are also many other problems
related to that. Green would say that there is a problem with
orange that its super sensitive about the material gain and
whatever the solutions green gives are shortcome and with no
positive and solid output. This is why the problems keep recurring
and they don’t get resolved as they should be resolved. But yellow
now cares about getting to the root of the problems and it doesn’t
want to surface-level solutions. It always values taking multi-
disciplinary approach and with this we mean the mixing of
perspectives from the hard sciences with the soft sciences. Its also
can be refered as mixing of social science with the physical or
natural science. For yellow stage, a lot of researches are
happening at those inter-linked sections between the hard and
soft sciences in between different disciplines. The orange would
use the term of “thinking out of the box” but still orange always
think inside of the box because for the orange stage people the
box is corporate and the corporate thinking such as capitalism and
industrialization. They say that they are thinking out of the box
but in actual they always think inside of the box, but yellow stage
is truly thinking about the “out of the box” concept. Research and
reading is very important to yellow. It likes the diverse
perspectives. It values clean content and concentrated
information. It’s like an information absorber. Yellow just absorbs
any criticism and any knowledge and puts it into the giant
database. Yellow would teach itself about learning and not going
to sit around and wait for somebody to explain things to him and
will not only be learning from the universities when inside of the
classroom rather yellow is learning all the time. It’s a dedication to
life-long learning because there is so much to learn. Yellow knows
that if it spends the rest of the life learning each and every single
day even then it’s not going to learn 1% of all the realities because

37
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

that’s how complex reality is. It values the expertise, competence

and experience. It values complexity. It values context and
learning from history. It values developing skills to become an
instrument for a greater whole. The importance of independence
and independent thinking is very high. Designing solutions for the
entire spiral rather than the own colors. Just like the way tier 1
does. Stage yellow is also very good at pulling ideas from various
different sources, models and theories. This stage people are
mostly left-brained where green was sort of a shift to the right
brain. Responsibility, independence and autonomy and being
alone wolf like concept are deeply rooted within this stage. This is
because yellow is moving away from sort of group-hive mind that
was the characteristic of green. By the way it is easy to confuse
yellow with orange so we should distinguish that why yellow is
different from orange. These are actually two radical stages or
attitudes of understanding life. First of all, yellow is beyond
concerns for survival we have talked about whereas orange is
enfolded in it. Orange is often driven by personal success and
need for money, achievement, recoginition and award earning.
Yellow stage doesn’t care about all this. If we might say that a lot
of people who are politically inclined and they are thinking too
much for new visions and for new ideas then they would lie into
the category of yellow but it’s not like that because this is like red
and orange. We should not be confusing the manipulation of
systems with the system thinking because these are totally
different things. Red and orange stages are brilliant at
manipulating systems. To manipulate the system we do not need
to understand that how the system works, all we need to care
about is selfishly exploting it for our own agenda. For putting
ourselves at the top of the system that is what orange and red is
about but that is not what yellow is about. System’s thinking is
not about how manipulating the system gives you advantage but
the system thinking is about the knowing and understanding of
the system, seeing the life and reality as a set of systems
interacting with each other and its about caring and health of the
entire system. It has nothing to do with you. It’s not about how
you are related to the system, its just about maintaining the

38
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

system. For example, Trump is an anti-system thinker and he

doesnot think in terms of systems. He is impulsive and he doesn’t
study anything the way the yellow system thinkers were like. The
attitude of yellow is non-manipulative and that’s the key
distinction between yellow and orange. Yellow is well aware of all
the spiral and itself also and the stage orange is not like that.
Yellow designs creativity that accommodates all the spirals
whereas orange schemes and manipulates to put itself up on the
spiral and at the top of hierarchy to gain maximum profit even if it
hurts the spiral, orange is not going to care whereas the yellow
will care and try to avoid actions that will hurt the spiral.

The characteristics for this stage are given below:

1. Overarching view of living systems
2. View life as a chaotic organism in which change is a con-
stant and in which insecurity is an acceptable way of living
3. Integrative structures and evolutionary streams
4. The need to develop natural living environments that sup-
port human evolution in a step-by-step and phased way
5. Integration of head, heart and gut feeling
6. Focused on both process and content
7. Moves freely in different value systems
8. Change is a constant: it’s emergent and about long-term
thinking
9. “Acupunctural interventions”; small actions with a big im-
pact

Healthy manifestations:
Critical, curious without judging and keep asking questions. Can
easily distinguish between the essential and the ancillary. Creative
and innovative and has a continuous flow of new ideas and ways
of thinking. Uses the most appropriate and workable methods
and behaviors to realize strategies and builds on already existing
knowledge and models.

39
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

Unhealthy manifestations:
Get bogged down in complex analysis. Builds castles in the air;
inventing beautiful futuristic solutions, which are not pragmatic.
Not able to finish something because there’s always something
new that requires attention. Everything is criticized and made
more complex instead of doing what actually needs to be done. At
times, Yellow may seem cold and distant as it sometimes forgets
to connect to people (because of its enthusiasm).

leadership characteristics:
1. Ensure a clear vision and a purpose (purpose-directed ob-
jectives).
2. Be an inspiring beacon for your people.
3. Show that you have an overview and an understanding of
how everything is connected and works together. Make
choices from a larger context.

purpose of the system.
5. Able to make complex things simple and to communicate
them in an understandable language.
6. Able to distinguish between the essential and the ancillary.

Stage Turquoise: This stage comes after green stage. Turquoise

is tier 2 just like the yellow stage but the yellow is the beginning of
tier 2 and turquoise is where tier 2 is going to its limitations. This
is where the magnificence of “Being and Existence” really tries to
flourish because tier 2 and turquoise are going beyond survival,
fear, ego, idealogy, politics, racism or anything like that. This is
moving into transcendence and self-less living. Now, it’s
important to understand that every stage within spiral dynamics
looks upon all the other stages of spiral dynamics from its own
vantage point and it judges them from its own vantage point.
Such as I am now discussing about the turquoise stage and tier 2
but if you are in stage blue, orange or green then you will
probably not understand and you might judge. Every stage has
basically one or two other stages on the spiral that it thinks are
criminal, deluded, just completely insane or superstitious. So if I
might be discussing few things which are in this stage but since

41
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

your stage may not agree with all the things being discussed or
may feel to be entirely magical or unreal. The reason it seems this
way is because you are too far away from stage turquoise so for
you it might feel like I am discussing some type of philosophy or
idealogy which is actually not the case. But you might not
appreciate this stage since you are mostly on other levels and
stages. The things which will be discussed in this stage are quite
deep and philosophical. It’s not like that you are going to jump to
another stage after some time but you will have to work for this
stage for years and decades maybe. It depends on how much
brainwashing has been done when we all were young and now
how much work we are willing to put into this. These stages affect
how we see the entire world. They affect the physical world and
how we see it. This is affected by the stage we have. They affect
what we think is worth while in life? What we think is relevant or
irrelevant, what we think is scientific and unscientific, what we
think is reasonable and unreasonable. So, something that seems
insane at stage blue will be seen perfect sane at this yellow and
turquoise and vice versa. What we consider dangerous to
ourselves but also what we consider dangerous to our
community. These stages might get political because spiral
dynamics is excellent at explaining the politics but only when we
get into tier 2 or a step above of our own stage because the issue
is that tier 1 has all the group agendas that are clouding its vision.
So politics often times becomes all about fears and what we think
is the greatest danger to mankind, what we think it is? Do we
think it’s the capitalist, or communist, or feminist, terrorist, or
fundamentalist, or materialist or intellectualists, globalists, or
nationalist or who do we think its threatening to all mankind? This
all depends that what stage we are at. And ofcourse when we get
into the higher stages we see that really there is nothing to fear
and no danger at all because it’s all just a game but we certainly
wont understand that until or unless we go into the turquoise.
Everything upto turquoise was kindergarten. You might think that
you have been trying hard from last ten or twenty years doing all
the stuff and shifting within the stages and you think that you
have understood so much and now you think that you have

42
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

progessed a lot but that was only the 1% of human development

that you have achieved. Now, in this stage and above turquoise is
the rest of 99% human development. This is where the real world
starts. Reality as we know it will get dissolved and everything
which we thought was obvious and certain about the world, all of
it starts to dissolve and now at turquoise we are really ready to
jailbreak the mind and to discover what lies behind the mind and
that is what I am going to discuss. Whenever I am discussing
about spiral dynamics, I am also adding my own ideas and
perspectives. Some people might have problem with that but the
thing which is to understand is that the model itself is just a model
and the way how we understand and perceive it is something
else. I am only interested in getting you to the highest and the
deepest human understanding of reality, of us and of
consciousness. So everything I discuss is all geared towards that
and the models of other people who have worked on the same
concepts help us in form of stepping stones so that we can make
understanding of concepts easily but not completely since its not
an easy task after all. In a sense it’s very easy to delude and to
confuse people by presenting strictly the facts and that is counter
intuitive principle but nevertheless its true. In many situations if
someone really want to delude some other person, what he will
present is the fact and scientific studies and that will make you
believe in all the false things and pursue all the wrong stuff in life.
Because strictly speaking scientific facts and data can be
interpreted in numerous ways and they can be used for almost
anything and to justify almost anything. And if we are doing
science properly then science never tells what the interpretations
are and science never really tells you how you should apply it to
your life and what you can do to actually establish yourself. The
science doesn’t go there because what it really does is
measurement and quantification. You are basically measuring the
reality with a ruler with reference to the other stages and then
writing down the data. And ofcourse science also cements that
together with various theories and meta-physical interpretations
which are often un-recoginized and those lead to delusions and
great problems as the material’s paradigm. Since i am discussing

43
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

about turquoise that might be little bit different than the founders
of spiral dynamics talked about, the reason I am discussing it in
my own ways because I think that I have understood it in a much
better way. So, the essence of turquoise is that it’s holistic, global
collectivist and self-transcendant. It swung to yellow which was
individualistic and now it swings back to the collective ego which
is an emphasis on collectivism but the collectivism is now different
as it was in green. In the green, collectivist is about sort of joining
a group and serving the group identity. With turquoise, the
pendulum swings and now it’s about manifesting the self for the
benefit of existential reality and for entire planet. We are
sacrificing ourselves for that. The essence of turquoise is also to
experience the wholeness of experience through mind and spirit.
The world is seen as a single dynamic organism with its own
collective mind. Everything connects with everything else. A lot of
boundaries breakdown and there are a lot of ecological
alignments for turquoise. The universe is alive and intelligent. It’s
not a typical machine like working structure. This stage is
interested in building a human community based on mystical
wisdom that is the deepest wisdom to possibly access for
mankind. Turquoise is interested in cooperative action for
elevating the consciousness of mankind. Turquoise is the
synthesis of left and right brain, east & west, science and religion,
mind, body, spirit and heart. All of them coming together to
function very smoothly and efficiently for the benefit of all the life
and consciousness. So, turquoise takes a very big picture of
perspective that what life is about? It’s not about me becoming
rich, famous or successful, it’s not about fighting for some political
cause for my little group even if my group is an environmental
group. It’s not about saving some oppressed minority; it’s also not
about saving some civilizations or preserving some hierarchies. It
is all about getting the mankind to awaken. To the magnificient of
existence to which most of mankind is utterly asleep. You will find
turquoise in government, education, politics, media, and business
and not even in the universities. Now, this is the very important
point because most people have never actually met a person of
stage turquoise. So, what I am describing here may sound like

44
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

something utopian and idealistic then that is because we need a

lot more life experience and we need to go out in the world to
find out turquoise human beings because they do exist but very
difficult and rare to find. Very few of us get able to reach this
stage. And if you are expecting to find these people in places like
media, then you are not going to find it there. This is because the
media is in orange stage. There is no room for turquoise in media
and business. You will not even find them in universities but there
are exceptions. These days the universities are like business
institutions and they are orange and yellow stage institutes. But
the universities are all about the minds and turquoise is going
beyond the mind so when we really start embodying the
turquoise, then we will be labeled as a mystic and when we will
be labeled as mystic and will not be able to fit into the academic
paradigm that is the materialist academic paradigm. Now, there
are some professors who might have some mystical experiences
and maybe there are some teachers who talk about non-duality
and with the universities they are doing some research, they are
making progress there but for the most part this is extremely rare
and these people maybe invited to speak, someone like a guru,
ustad or any other lable attached to a spiritual or mystic person.
Someone like a guru will never be attending the university for ten
years because that seems wastage of time for such people who
are in stage turquoise. Gurus think that whatever the people are
doing in the universities and the educational institutions is
wastage of time because gurus believe that the scientist and the
educational leaders are not able to understand or either they
refuse to understand because they are in that paradigm. They
indoctrinated into it. They went to that time of spending a lot
years in schools and now they are stuck in that paradigm. The
gurus don’t think that the universities are open-minded. These
institutions will move out anybody who will talk about the truth
too much because this will be a threat to all the orange and
yellow stage people and institutions. Some people can get away
with it, maybe some professors or speakers if what he does is that
the guru speaks and teaches in a more materialistic way so that
the people may understand even some part of stage turquoise

45
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

and mysticism. Most of the people in the society and most the
institutions of the society are close-minded to turquoise. This is so
because whenever something is so advanced and high-level then
for the society it is very difficult to accept and understand the
teachings of the stage turquoise. This has happened in past and it
is going to be like this in future. People who are in this stage
usually become gurus, teachers, sages, leaders and visionaries. So
if you want to find them then you can find them in such positions.
There are very few of such turquoise people may become so
developed that they are at really good position to build their own
communities and to become a leader in any other form because
they have a lot of wisdom that they can easily guide people. They
help people solve many of their problems and issues by guiding
and teaching them in a way others are not able to. But they have
to do this on their own terms because the society really doesn’t
provide the infrastructure that will just allow them to take a
normal 9-5 job and be able to really embody and teach their
ideas. They would have to consider some sort of development in
order to convey their message and they develop their own setup.
Torquoise emerges with the realization that the yellow has that it
alone no matter how much it model and understands stuff. It
cannot solve the world’s problems just through its systemic
understanding. There is a need of community effort to work on
these problems that we see and that is when turquoise emerges.
It emerges when yellow starts to see that consciousness unifies
everything and also everyone. The idea that consciousness is
central, all of the various problems, problems in universities,
economy and government or any other problem, it all blows down
to consciousness and that is what the turquoise realize. When
yellow starts to see the limits of thinking and modeling and the
scientific methods and of reasons and logic, when the limits
become utterly undeniable then yellow was ready to go beyond
the mind and it’s ready to post rational and then the turquoise
starts to emerge. Turquoise emerges when yellow starts to realize
that all of the answers and understanding that it has developed so
far has not been the ultimate answer. The ultimate answers have
still not been answered at yellow because the ultimate answers

46
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

are beyond cause and effect, beyond linear thinking and beyond
the mind. And so when yellow starts to pursue those questions
deeply, then it starts to have glimpses of the non-duality and it
starts to have direct consciousness of absolute and then that is
where turquoise can emerge. Turquoise emerges with very
serious spiritual practices; this is something what is required.
Turquoise is for the flowering of mysticism, when boundary starts
to desolve between the self, other and world. The physical stuff
that we want utterly undeniable at stage orange and even yellow,
now those starts to break down and this really will make your
mind get upset and then turquoise starts to emerge with self-
transcendence. With the transcendence of your ego, turquoise
starts to emerge with the awareness of “maya”. The dream that
we are in starts to realize that what is happening everywhere is
only a dream and it’s visual game and hallucination. There is
nothing tangible. We start to realize that “maya” it is in all of its
forms deludes in very solid seeming tangible illusiosn but those
are just hallucinations. Now we are going to realize “maya” and
turquoise starts to emerge. When yellow realizes that mind and
understanding by itself doesn’t give happiness and yellow is still
depressed, frustrated, fearful and anxious and still has all the
human problems. Yellow suffers a lot and it’s fed up with all the
sufferings and wants a permanent solution and an extential level
solution, and then turquoise starts to emerge. There is a shift
from yellow to turquoise and it’s basically a shift from learning
about stuff to being one emerged with the many. One of the
highest values for a turquoise individual is the Consciousness and
not just our own consciousness but also elevating the
consciousness of the mankind because when the turquoise starts
to understand the key that unlocks and solves all the problems of
mankind, we see all the delusions in the world that ofcourse
needed to be resolved and the people of stage turquoise can do
this in a much better way than any other person of other stages.
This stage values and gives importance to the wisdom and not just
of an individual but on a whole of the society and community. This
is because the boundary between human beings and reality starts
to breakdown. Torquoise have a totally new assumption of God

47
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

and divinity. For the blue stage the divine was like an entity, and
these was ridiculed by society of orange which was actually right
and wrong both in different sense. There is actually the presence
of God and turquoise is starting to understand what that is? But
through direct consciousness and we will have to recontextualize
our experience to really understand about the universality and
divinity which is occurring every moment but we are unaware of it
because we are sleeping within the context of that stage. For
turquoise it’s very important that how we interact with everything
as much as possible because what realization of divine is that
everything is infinitely interconnected and that is the most extra-
ordinary experience and insight that you can have in life is to
realize the infinite interconnection of everything and we are the
heart of it all. We are not just some ordinary creature that was
accidentally born without any purpose. Synthesizing more and
more together, integrating all religions and science. Turquoise is
not acting really out of a need to please anybody, to manipulate
anybody or to belong to a part of a group and to conform all that
stuff, turquoise has transcended. It values “Being” as supposed to
knowing, doing and having which is all about the lower stages.
The lower stage is either about having stuff, doing stuff or
knowing stuff that was yellow and turquoise now going to “Being”
and its little difficult to express the significance of “Being”. We
have to be it to understand what it really is and why it’s more
powerful than the other stuff. Rather than fighting with nature,
the turquoise is flowing with the nature. At the turquoise, the life
can be totally effortless, pleasureabale as of those who are karate
master and only focus on nature that every problem will be
resolved by flowing with nature. Turquoise values the healing on
every dimension whether it’s physical, emotional or spiritual
dimension. This stage values the direct downloads from infinite
intelligence and universal divine which is really amazing. Turqoise
is really able to become the supernatural visionary. We might see
connections that most of the mankind on the whole will not see
or understand this for hundreds of more years to come. So a
turquoise visionary can see stuff and where the technology is
going and to see where the human race is heading to. Such people

48
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

are so far in their thinking and always care for a long upcoming
future ahead. Maybe this is the reason that most of the people
don’t take the thinking of turquoise seriously and the common
people think of it as a joke. Turquoise values the self amusement.
It tends to be light hearted because it’s the ego that is heavy
hearted. It’s the ego that has problems and fears that block it all
down. Turquoise stage people take this ahead and big thinking is
utmost important for them, even the big thinking of yellow stage
is less as compared to that of turquoise. The big thinking becomes
real, tangible and physical. There might be some confusion arising
to differentiate between the turquoise and green. So, we should
be having a more profound distinction to get it clearer. At
turquoise, we have the real mysticism whereas in the green we
have a more new age sort of spiritual practices. Maybe we are a
part of a social group, going for the physical exercise and
meditational retreats but all of them are not serious because we
are doing it but the meditation might be for some common
benefits such as health or monitory and to calm the mind and
reduce anxiety and depression. This is all not about the deep
meta-physical meditation. Infact, most people who practice the
meditation really don’t have any idea about what does this really
mean and for what purpose it really mean that? This is so because
the people practice it so casually. This is informed by the direct
non-dual experiences rather than the beliefs or ideas. The green
may have a lot of spiritual beliefs such as reincarnation, soul
experiences and the divine. But such beliefs don’t matter a lot
because it’s only theoretical type of set beliefs. This same
problem is with the blue, since it believes in a lot of stuff such as
ideas, divine metaphysics, reincarnation or spirits but its all just
about the presence of ideas and no experience of such concepts.
At the blue, what most of the people are doing is ideal worship,
and blue is the copy of turquoise but its not following the
experience that is required to reach at the turquoise level that is
totally practical. This embraces global activism without attacking
the individuality that was done by the stage green. In this stage,
everyone is being themselves. But in a same time it’s the whole
activity globally done for a greater purpose. The recognition of

49
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

this effort is very important. There is no need for turquoise to

sacrifice the individuality but for blue sometimes it is necessary to
sacrifice for the community or society. The turquoise people are
completely going for full surrender for the sake of authority and
this is a huge joy for these people. Turquoise never comes up with
the type of guilt such as divine guilt, orthodox guilt or that it is
extremely necessary for you to become the noble otherwise the
hell is the final destination. In turquoise it is like that the Divine
energy is all the time awakened and around us and this is all
beautiful and amazing. Nobody have to preach or teach it to you
in the stage turquoise, you will have to just start doing it
spontaneously. Another important thing is that this stage is very
much conscious about the spiral and turquoise is sort of spiral
wizard which is able to go up and down to different values and
perspectives that turquoise got from yellow and all of this has
been integrated and this is what a spiral wizard is. Become able to
communicate with all the other stages and levels among all the
spirals, designing solutions for all the different spirals without
imposing its own values and principles too much the way green
and blue did. This stage is not as much triggered by social
injustices as the green was. There is an acceptance that comes
from a deep understanding of intolerance, conflict, war, greed,
violence and evil. Torquoise know about these factors very deeply
but the stage green really never understood about these factors,
green was just reacting against these factors rather than doing
something. Green was reacting against orange stage greed and
materialism whereas the turquoise understands that it’s the life
usually called “maya” and the evil is unable to fight with anybody
since the evil is in war with itself for a long time. The ego is greedy
by its nature and it’s evil. This is the reason that evil gives evil and
negative because itself its very dark and guilty. But in order to
really understand this we have to get the direct and real
experiences and we need to surrender our ego. The problem is
that you will not be able to recognize this until your own ego and
agenda is still driving you because that is why these people have
problem with the evil not because it’s bad in its nature but
because it is extremely threatening to us and that is why we are

50
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

reacting against them. But the turquoise is beyond personal

threats. Turquoise is much more understanding of the stage
orange, doesn’t demonise stage orange as the green does and
turquoise is not as political as the green. Green love to join the
political and military causes and groups, it sometimes gets too
passionate with its political causes which actually becomes
counter productive. This stage doesn’t take politics seriously and
it’s more playful with the problems going on socially. Although not
ignorant of them, not oblivious to them so turquoise person not
probably going to say that they are coming and let them come
and do what they want. Since turquoise also have some ideas,
principles and opinions. It still has a sense of what is right for
elevating the consciousness or the social consciousness. And this
stage don’t waste its time just to let people know about such
concepts related to elevating the real consciousness but it flows
this to the experimental level and practical level. Turquoise
understands all the reasons and its core that why the things are
happening and for what purpose, so this stage will have an easy
time finding solutions for the problems and then implementing
those solutions. Toquoise have the mentality that comes with
green that there is more mindfulness and more presence and ego
in turquoise than in green or yellow. Turquoise tends to have a lot
of more emotional mastery than green. The green is very attached
and reactive and over-emotional too. This is effective in resolving
large problems whereas the stage green tends more towards the
protests, political walks and talking but with very little output.
Turquoise sees the human race as a single organism. Each and
everything is connected. We actually see the dissolution of the
physical boundaries between self and the others such that we can
no longer differentiate between our physical bodies, the universe
and the enemies. There is a fading of artificial boundaries of skin
color, ethnicities, gender, nationality, bloodlines, genes and even
the species does not matter anymore. The turquoise teacher and
preacher will look at his entire pupil as his children. This is
something totally out of context for the stage orange and this is
just a concept. So, all such boundaries that we thought to be
physical are just conceptual in reality and they breakdown even

51
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

the DNA and genes. The reality according to this stage is that we
are related to the table and chair as we are related to our parents.
This really doesn’t mean that the table and chair have any DNA
but it’s just like DNA is a single factor and it’s really irrelevant
when we become conscious to see the hidden realities as per
stage turquoise. This happens because of the presence of full non-
duality in the direct experience. The table at which we are looking
at is actually ourself according to this stage. So when we start to
realize these phenomenons and concepts then all the realities
start to breakdown and so all the group identities which were
thought to be important become completely meaningless and of
no importance. This stage used the world as an inter-linked causes
and effect, and interacting fields of energy. For turquoise there is
a joint activity across groups and communities. The communities
are not spiritual but also conceptual because the boundary
between the physical and conceptual itself starts to dissolve and
begin to realize that physical is a concept or in other words,
physical itself is not physical. The feelings and emotions come
back into play because the yellow is too much on left brain and
sort of academic in nature so the feelings come back in with the
turquoise. The work of this stage is almost should be meaningful
to the whole life. There is a deep trust of intuition and instinct.
The self is a part of a large conscious spiritual whole. We are not
just a simple human being what we have always thought.
Turquoise tends to be non-manipulative, non-idealogical and non-
judgemental which we can’t just say for the other lower stages. It
is not driven by fear or selfishness. Turquoise does not play the
blame games. Turquoise is far beyond green fetish spirituality. It
has direct experience of oneself being divine. Turquoise deeper,
mental and spiritual capacities are awakened. New abilities that
we might think of as super-powers become ordinary powers in
turquoise. The paranormal activities might develop in this stage
but they are absolutely normal for this stage.

The list of all the values of this stage is given below:

1. They usually have their own communities
2. Consciousness

Zen’s Enlightenment

Z
EN is basically a metaphor with ten stages of
enlightenment. This model basically emerged around
thousands of years ago. It originated and emerged in
China. It’s very ancient.
There are various models of this and it’s been manipulated
and changed a lot. This is in actual a map. In a certain sense, it’s
like spiral dynamics. Spiral dynamics is map of different stages
that you evolve through and grow through. Zen’s map is actually a
map for the different spiritual stages or different stages of
awakening that you go through. Zen is not the only tradition that
has this kind of map but all other such traditions have their maps.
Because they all understand that you go through the spiritual
awakening. The reason that this model can be valuable is that this
helps you to see the insight at just more profound and deeper
level. It keeps you humble and shows you that even after you
have attained your awakening, there are still many stages beyond
that and you probably be unaware of it. Zen’s model also helps
you to point out the various traps and flaws along the way. The
number of the stages is not something to get involved into
because every tradition has its own number of stages. The ten
stages are not particularly because of any specific reason. There
can be as many stages as you want. The stages are meant to
understand because of their special interaction with each other

55
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

and the output related to it. We often get deceived by the

simplicity of something. The teachings or the enlightenment may
seem simple but it always has a deeper and insightful
understanding. Zen’s model is actually very simple but the
wisdom is something of great importance.

Highest wisdom requires that you be prepared and you be at

certain right stage in your life where you are ready to get on
the path which most people are not.

The stages of this model are given below:

1. Searching for the Ox
2. Seeing the footprints
3. Seeing the Ox
4. Catching the Ox
5. Taming the Ox
6. Riding the Ox Home
7. Ox Transcended
8. Ox and the self transcended
9. Return to the Source
10. Re-entering the marketplace

1: Searching for the Ox

"Beating around the endless wild grass, you seek and search, The rivers
broaden, the mountains stretch on, and the trails go even deeper Your
strength exhausted and spirit wearied, no place allows you refuge, The
only sound, evening cicadas, shrilling in the maples."

Every stage has its own phrases and words. This is the first stage.
This is the first stage where most of the people are at. This is

56
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

someone stumbling around in the life searching for meaning and

suffering from being lost and being clueless. The Zen master
quoted about this stage that:

“There are people who lack the fire to bring light into their
own future. They lapse into wishful thinking hoping someone
else will provide that light for them.”

So this is very important. A lot of newbies get this into their head
that somehow the desire for awakening is wrong because they
hear the platitude that all the desire is wrong and you must end
seeking. This leads to the foolish thinking that why should we
begin path?
This type of mistake can be refered to as burning your ship
before you have used it to cross the river. So the person at this
stage should not be worrying about the enlightenment and its
going to trap you in the spiritual ego. This is because that is not
the problem for that person and it’s going to give no result to
anybody. We are in actual operating completely under the
operations of the society which has misled us in various ways and
now we will have to fight through all that. Just by affirming that
you want to become enlightened that is a very important step
because that is where the journey begins but that is not all
enlightenment. Enlightenment is something all together and the
enlightenment is the ox and the metaphor of the ox means the
“enlightenment” and ultimate truth as per say according to this
theory. This is the answer to the many questions which were

57
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

asked by many people ever lived. The Enlightenment is the

consciousness and it is the true nature, this is the awareness of
actuality and universal divine. This is the discriminatory dualistic
motive of looking at the world and it looks something like that
failing and passing at certain times, we are good and bad, we
accomplish and get defeated, there is a day after every night,
there is hope where there is no hope left and so on. There is
goodness after suffering and those people who say that we don’t
require the conscious must have not suffered yet. Whenever
there is suffering, then there is a need for such conscious.

“Suffering is a gift in its hidden mercy.”

RUMI

The suffering is the cause and mercy is the effect. The trick which
is played by the devil is that it makes you think that there is no
need of suffering and no need of mercy which tends us towards
the foolishness that we don’t even start the journey of excellence.
There is great saying that “The person of great talent is slow to
mature and a person of great character develops slowly”. It
endures long sufferings along the way and this prepares us for the
long journey of catching the ox (metaphor for consciousness). This
is a difficult journey but if you are lucky enough then it might
become easy for you but don’t expect it to be an easy one. This is
a journey like to climb Mount Everest. You have to appreciate
significance of this journey that you are taking. Only then you will

58
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

be able to succeed. Because otherwise as a fool you just rush in

thinking like you can climb up the mountain and then you will
realize that you are getting out of oxygen and food and then what
happens is that you run back and never try it again. That is the
foolish way to go back. On the other way the easy way to go back
is to go back after understanding. We always need to be very
persistent and consistent with this one.

2: Seeing the footprints

"By the water and under the trees, tracks thicken fast, In the sweet
grasses thick with growth, did you see it? Or did you not? But even in
the depths of the deepest mountains, how could it hide from others?
It's snout turned towards the sky."

This is the second stage. This is the stage where many of us are at.
You have had learnt about meditation. You have heard about
awakening. You have read some books about it. You might have
seen some videos of such lectures. Maybe you have meditated
and you have got glimpses of something and you were sort of
shocked and awakened at the same time since the ego was
clicked by something weird which will be only for a very few time
period. This will be you starting to see the footprints. There
maybe something like an ox since you have had a feeling of its
presence but not seen it yet other than its footprints. This is a
very important stage because a lot of people trick themselves to
not go into this stage because this is one of the doubts in their
rationals that comes in and smart people start saying that prove

59
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

all this including the ox and the actuality. This gives rise to the
delusionary set of thinking. The Zen master quoted about this
stage that:

“Despite the fact that there are so many traces of the ox

everywhere still we haven’t seen it. This is because you are
stuck in the weeds of self-delusion”

This is not going to matter how much you seek, how much you
search. Always we are buried into the mountains of self delusion
covered with mistaken thinking. So, there is another trap where
we are going to fall into. There is a tendency to hear about the
non-duality, awakening and enlightenment and rather than
actually doing the practice rather than sitting down and doing
self-inquiry. This is going to be done by reading books and
searching for the knowledge. Afterwards you will be making a
philosophy of non-duality and thinking that you have achieved
something great and figured it out and understood what is being
taught. But in real, what you are doing is that deluding yourself.
You will be making an imaginary ox and and imaginative real
actuality. This could be really dangerous and we need to be
cautious for this. Someone you might have thought that the Zen
monks don’t read or study then from where this idea started? It is
ridiculous to think that it can possibly be true. We might say that
Zen is a separate transmission outside of the scripture but it is
only because there are teachings that there is something
transmitted from it. The people like Zen masters have decades of

60
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

experience and these masters understand new answers of these

paths that ordinary people and even most teachers don’t
understand. The Zen master understands that the path is deeper
than it first seems. Just because we had one little glimpse of
something doesn’t means that you have attained it yet. There are
a lot of chances that you might be deluded about the non-duality
if you do the thorough study of it.

3: Seeing the Ox
"In the trees nightingale sing and sing again, sun warms the soft wind,
green willows line the banks, here there is nowhere left for it to hide,
It's majestic head and horns, no artist could draw."

This is a very critical stage in the awakening process because in

this stage we see the ox and experience it very first time. Uptil this
stage we have only thought of it and that was only conceptual.
This is also called the first mystical experience. This seems as a
whole new gateway opened to you. The ox seems to be real to
you when you get into this stage and this is not just a wishful
thinking. Also, what happens after having the glimpse of this ox is
that you start to accompany yourself with the greater tools and a
lot greater experimental stuff because this looks a journey started
to you. We start to think that this is something extremely greater
and we will be able to catch this only when we are able to cope up
with the great monster in form of the universality usually
discussed as ox. We will have to develop ourselves in order to
look into this. The Zen master quoted about this stage that:

61
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

“Still you have not really caught the ox. You have just caught a
glimpse from behind. You have seven more stages to go. To
catch the ox is not easy task but first you must catch side of it”

So this is a very important stage because when it terrifies you for

the very first time. Now you can get really serious about this stuff.
So, this is going to be more difficult than we have thought. Initially
we have thought that we will get the enlightenment and then it
will be all easy to progress but this all the newbie thinking and
immature concepts regarding the awakening and consciousness. If
we really want to embody the ox then that’s going to require a lot
more than just the glimpse of it, this motivates us to go for the
journey. The eyes see the colors only and in a similar way we are
just seeing the actuality but not finding it, this simply means that
our mind is intoxicated with useless thinking, false knowledge,
prejudice and mistaken opinions.

4: Catching the Ox
"With your last ounce of strength, you take it, But stubborn and strong
it won't be broken, Now it suddenly climbs on high ground, Then it
descends to vanish deep into the mist."

This is the stage where we are actually trying to catch the ox and
own it for our purpose. This is us going far beyond the initial four
glimpses of the actuality and starts to embody the awakening in

62
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

our everyday life. Zen master quoted about this stage that:

“Just catching the ox is not enough, you must get a tight rope
on it and catch it and make it your own. A mind of thoughts
and attachments cannot possibly fathom the spirit of the ox
that is called original face”

This stage hates the world of desires and worldly passions. This is
where we get into the rude awakening that in order to catch this
ox you will really have to completely surrender yourself. Turning
the psychy inside out and the egotism stand in the way of you
catching the ox and taiming the ox. So now we will have to make a
choice. The develist ego self and old deprived deluded life full of
the attachements, desires, sufferings, addictions and cravings or
the ox. We can’t have both of them. We can not attain the ox as
long as we have the fantasies about the spirituality, religion, good
or evil and the actual consciousness. Your various political
ideologies, economic ideologies, capitalism, socialism,
conservatism and all of its fantasies are to be discarded if we want
the ox. We can not have the ox as well as maintain all the
nonsense. The only reason that all the people want this stuff is
because they don’t really have the ox and tamed the ox and didn’t
fully realized what the ox is? Because if you did then ox will
irradiate and block out all of the egotistical craving within you, all
of the schemes and manipulations that you are trying to attain in
the name of the ox and this is how all the evil happens in the
society.

63
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

5: Taming the Ox
"Not for a moment put down whip or rane, Less the Ox wondered back
to dust and desire, Pull again and again, till it's tame and gentle, Of
itself it will follow without bridle or chain"

This stage is also very important. This is a stage where a lot of

spiritual work and inner work is done. A lot of spiritual purification
happens. This stage can be very challenging because we start to
realize more and more that how much egotism and devil is within
us which we need to surrender to fully tame the ox so this is just
the constant struggle of self reflecting and finding more and more
ignorance within ourselves; all of it has to go. Zen master quoted
about this stage that:

“Now you have caught the ox but this ox will not do what you
want it to do. That is why you will have to train it and make it
your own.”

This is the other place where a lot of people get confused

especially if they follow some new teachings; this is so because
they get very much attached to their own teachings that they
think others to be wrong. This makes them realize that there is
nothing more to do in their path which they are following. This is
what seperates the newbies from the masters. The master is the
one who has gone through this entire process of letting the
awakening purify from all the selfishness. And that process usually

64
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

takes years and decades and that is why nobody wants to pursue
it. This is the reason that the Zen mastery is so rare. The Zen
masters keep on improving their stage because this is how they
become able to sustain what they achieved otherwise they might
lose their position and the mastery they have acquired after tough
times.

6: Riding the Ox Home

"Riding high on your Ox, leisurely you head for home, Shrilling on a
nomad's flute, you leave in the evening mist, In each beat and verse,
your boundless feeling, To a close companion, what need to move your
lips ?"

This is the stage where you have finally started to sort of attain
the embodiment of your awakening. And now you are on your
way of becoming the master. This is not something which we
usually about and this is not something fantastic that we have
achieved. This starts to become our ordinary way of life. Zen
master quoted about this stage that:

“Having liberated yourself from the round of birth and decay,

you must once again return to the ordinary world.”

So the brain of non-duality back into the world of duality. Your

brain (the absolute) goes back into the relativity. So, here is again
where the true master is born is when all the mystical states and
out of body experiences fuse back into the everyday life and you
just walk and talk and cook food, do business and become social,

65
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

engage in the world and relationships and all of this is still infused
in the non-duality because we have really tamed the ox. Here you
have reached the pinnacle of life. One who says I want this or that
or I want to do this or that, is still wondering around in the life
path but when you have reached the peak, there is no need to
climb anymore. No need to get tired anymore. So at this stage,
many aligned people will give advide to newbies wrongly that
there is no need to do any more work for this cause and so the
newbie mis-interprets the advice and thinks that there is nothing
to do anymore. Those who still think of making money are
wandering around at the half way point; you worry about neither
seeking absolute nor extinguishing delusive passions, are cutting
of all thoughts there is no one in the world you think either nice
or nasty. With the mind of no mind, you need everyone as if for
the first time. With that relaxed and expensive attitude you leave
everything to the ox so that wherever it goes you feel like at
home.

7: Ox Transcended
"Astride your Ox, you've reached the hills of home, With Ox put away,
you too are at ease, The sun has risen three poles high, Yet still you're
dreaming, Your whip and line hang idle, under the fetched eaves."

This is the stage where you have now transcended the seeking of
awakening and enlightenment. And this is the stage where
everybody says that there is no such thing like enlightenment.
Because you have realized that you were the ox all the time,

66
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

everything is the ox. So, ofcourse there is no hidden thing that we

are going to find, all that we will find is the present moment that
is happening around you. But it is going to be recontextualized
and it will completely transform the life. So don’t make a mistake
of thinking that if there is nothing to find then it’s just a present
moment and that is depressing. What is the point of all the work,
if everything will end up in present moment? If you still think in
that way then it means that you haven’t found the ox. You don’t
realize that what the present moment is. You don’t realize the
significance and the magnificence of the present moment. It
hasn’t been recontextualized. The recontextualization is a very
real thing and it needs to happen. This is the finding of the ox. Zen
master quoted about this stage that:

“Having completed the practice you get trapped. You start

saying things like I have had Kenshō and I am not the average
monk. I must have a bigger cushion.”

There is a word “Dogma” which means that this is the work of

spiritual practices and it’s a path towards liberation and
enlightenment. So the path and the ox and the self are really the
one and the same. That’s non duality. So all these boundaries that
you thought existed, all the categories and different objects, all of
them get realized as absolute, unitive and non-dual
consciousness. The newbies sometime make the mistake of
thinking that if we are going to be happy in all the circumstances
then what’s the point? From here, we start setting ourselves in a

67
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

sort of wricked game where we can not win because by definition

if you are rejecting then what is going to happen is that you will
have to suffer and that is the start of the new journey.

8: Ox & Self Transcended

"Whip and line, you and the Ox, all gone to emptiness, Into the blue
sky for words too vast, can a snowflake survive the fire of a flame pit?
Attain this and truly be one with the Masters of the past."

So, this is the very advanced stage. This is where you transcend
everything and surrender everything. Sufi describes it as “Fana” or
passing away. Everything passes aways. All the techniques pass
away. Everything passes away even the “self” passes away. All of
the ideas about non-duality pass away, all efforts passes away.
This is complete emptiness. This emptiness goes full in circle and
there is an inflection point where all the emptiness also spills out
into infinity. All of it in all the moments is “Self”. You also start to
realize that everything that happened really didn’t happened. We
might see that there is some stuff happening in the world but at
this stage you realize that none of the universe has ever even
transpired. This is a shocking and radical depth of non-duality,
way beyond the insight of “no-self”. This is a complete and radical
nothingness which is shocking and horrifying at the same time but
also wonderous and magnificient and divine. Zen master quoted
about this stage that:

“There is no Satori or awakening. No dogma to be awakened

68
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

to and no self awakened. Here the nature stands completely

and totally revealed. This is the combination of practice and
completion of the discipline. It is the perfect circle.”

It is the vast emptiness. It lacks nothing, it has nothing in excess. It

is neither male nor female, neither young nor old; neither learned
nor unlearned neither good nor bad. It is the complete just so
world which is the Satori. So, the ultimate depths and degrees of
non-duality, the realization that all distinctions collapse, all
boundaries, all objects and everything, you can not even
distinguish existence from non-existence anymore. You cannot
distinguish life from death. This is so because none of it is real. At
this point we find the original source of the entire universe
namely but it never really happened. We get the answer of the
question that Why is there something rather than nothing. The
person who have awakened have all turned into emptiness, all
have swept away, leaving not a speck of dust. No matter,
whatever we do but we are still trying to hold some breathe that
we have failed; we must throw our life away, then there is no self
that remains, not even so much as a tip of a hair worth of self
remains. This is all about the complete extinguishing of the self. At
this point you as a “self” were never born. The idea that you are a
biological creature who was ever born to parents, this idea has
gone away and we don’t think of it in a way anymore. There is no
more self, and the “self” never born.

9: Return to the Source

69
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

"You return to the origin, went back to the source, such wasted effort,
How much better to just be blind and deaf, From inside your hut, you
don't see outside your hut, Let the streams just flow on, and the
flowers just bloom red."

This stage really is not something that can easily be understood by

somebody in a required particular time period. People usually
have some glimpses of the stages being discussed but nobody is
actually sure about what does that really mean and where is that
taking them to. People have the access to the powerful tools but
most of them are really unknown to it. People might have seen
the ultimate deepest levels of the mysticism, non-duality or
spirituality. The embodiment of these stages really doesn’t mean
that we really understand it or we really know the core value of it.
There is always two sides to it, the power of the upside is that it
lets you really see what this path is about and that makes us very
motivated and helps us to understand the various traps that exist,
it also helps us to see just how much further this needs to go, how
deep this goes and that is why very few people have gone through
it. This allows you to see all that which otherwise would be
unimaginable and impossible. Only very few maybe one in
millions will ever be able to go to this far. Even of those people
who become enlightened only a small percentage will enter this
far. So, the downside is ofcourse that you see the full potential of
what you can be and how deep this goes. But then the ability to
embody it is still very much weak. This is also being quite
frustrating because you might have seen the glimpses but then

70
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

you still have a lot to do. So, also one more thing to take into
consideration is that you should not be taking these parts too
seriously or too leniently because this is only a general guideline,
a map, an estimate. This is only the map and not a territory. Zen
master quoted about this stage that:

“That place where immaculate mind without thought is just

completely identical with the universe. Nothing other than this
can be considered absolute ground. Returning to this place is
what is meant by return to the source. What do we take as the
fundamental nature of the universe? It is ox and self both
transcended. Here, there is neither self nor ox but only the one
perfect circle within the pure heart-mind in which there is
nothing. There is no distinction between self and the world.
There are no intellectual obstructions or problems about the
fundamental nature of the universe. All of the meta-physical
questions have been answered”

When we have gained Satori (Japanese term for awakening) then

the world we live in just as it is, is the pure land. After Satori, is
the same as before satori, and that is sort of realization of non-
duality. There are sort of different depths of realizing the oneness
of everything. At first we may realize that we are one with the
universe and that might be extremely revolutionary for us. But
then we realize that this was still not complete because there was
still a duality between the self and the universe. This duality
breaksdown and then if we maybe are of any religion then there

71
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

might be some duality. There comes a more and deeper

realization with the non-duality and then it gets embodied at a
cellular level and deeper within you, such that the relationships
and behaviours with the world become less dualistic and non-dual
in nature.

10: Re-Entering the marketplace

"With bare chest and feet, you come to the market, Under dirt and
ashe, your face breaks into laugh, With no display of magic powers,
you make withered trees burst into flower."

So this is the ultimate, we complete the path so fully that we

forget that we ever took the path. We don’t talk about this to
nobody at this stage. You become fully aligned master and so
ordinary that now that you just completely blend in and so
humble that there is nothing so special about you. There is not
even a single amount of ego left behind. These people really don’t
talk about non-duality to the people. You become completely
ordinary such that when somebody talk to you on street or any
other place then they couldn’t even know anything about you.
This is one of the ultimate qualities of a true master. We can not
really see this stage person as a newbie, we cannot appreciate it
yet. This is because our idea of enlightenment is about becoming
famous whereas this stage person is totally beyond the ego and
self love. The humility is the ultimate and honest signal and we
can not fake it. Zen master quoted about this stage that:

72
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

“Though you have attained this unexcelled realm of the

absolute, you forget about the elevated realm completely.”

This was something remarkable about the great people uptil now
and this is why they were all the greatest role models. This is
precisely what they did. But there is something about this too that
the people who are in this stage get a little proud or sometype of
leadership is developed which is not quite right as it should be.
Such people also smile always as if they don’t know anything
about this stage and about the actuality. These people lead those
who are hard, stiff and rough people. He helps the people to
discover the light in their lives. When you have reached this
highest stage, then you keep on helping the people and with that
you also live with them as being like them.

73
CHAPTER 3
Sociological Perspectives

S OCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ARE MAINLY divided into

three major theoretical perspectives. The Functionalist
Perspective, Conflict
Symbolic Interactionist perspective
perspective,
(sometimes
and the
called
the interactionist perspective or simply the micro view). The need
for the perspective is simple and that is to quantify the bunch of
ideas present in society by different people belonging to different
school of thoughts. Many social scientists and sociologists use this
strategy to express their thoughts and this helps them to give
suggestions.
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

The function of sociology, as of every science, is to reveal that

which is hidden.
Pierre Bourdieu

The way we look at society is dependant upon who we are as

members of society. The member of the society may look into the
society at a large extent. It maybe dependant on the age, gender,
ethnicity, upper or middle class, kind of family background,
educational qualification etc. All this information tells us about
the nature of the social being known to be as the member of the
society. In much simpler words, the natural way of our looking at
different things is always different. The understanding which we
have being the member of the society is usually partial.
The ideas which we have for class, urbanization, globalization,
religion, community, rural society and so on are ideas that we
learnt in our everyday ordinary life. The sources of that
knowledge and ideas maybe the peer group, family or community
and that is not going to be the knowledge that is validated.
Validation can be provided or supported either by empirical
evidence or by logical inferences or by comparative methods. A
natural perspective has to be changed from the sociological
perspective because the sociology emerged at that time which
was greatly influenced by the science, French revolution,
enlightenment, industrial revolution and modernization. That the
social behaviours are not divinely ordained, the society can be
studied in the same fashion as the world can. There have been a
lot of debates that whether they are identical but something

75
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

which has been persistant is the method, the approach or the

perspective with which we see the society has to be understood in
a systematic, logical and coherent manner. The manner which
could be easily repeated, so for instance if we study the behavior
of village at this particular time, somebody may have certain types
of findings, or someone may be able to study the same village in
other time maybe ten or twenty years later. But then, they would
definitely have a baseline which they could then verify. In other
words, the knowledge which sociology claims to have has to be
validated and in order to have that knowledge; sociological
perspective has to break from common sense perspectives.
Now, we may be familiar with a lot of sociological perspectives,
such as people would say that there is one perspective that
emphasizes conflict, there is another perspective which
emphasizes consensus, another perspective which emphasizes
gender and the other may emphasize the book views. The
question arises that why do we have a lot of such perspectives?
Why we can’t be more balanced in articulating our perspectives
and say that we must have only one single generalized and
universal perspective. There have been a lot of people who
actually think that the sociology is not well developed and it lacks
systemization precisely because it has a lot of plural contending
perspectives. I would like to argue very strongly about this notion
that plurality of this perspective means weakness of the discipline.
The plurality of perspectives is actually natural because the
society is plural. As long as there are conflicts, contradictions and
various ways of looking at the society, this will be reflected

76
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

similarly in the sociological perspectives that we have. We do not

see this plurality as a weakness but we see it as strength and this
plurality is not just free floating availability of the views but we
need to engage the debate between these perspectives. The
interrogation of each other’s perspectives will lead to a certain
type of understanding which would pave out a way for certain
insights in a society. The other thing that should also be clarified is
that it’s not like the one sociological perspective as inherently
wrong and other perspective as inherently right. This is just that
there are multiple ways trying to engage with that which
constitutes to social behaviours. This is not that easy because
society is not an empirical object which we can analyze,
experiment or count in a manner which we can do in a physical
world. The social world is the world inhabited by the human
beings with ideas, understandings as I have mentioned earlier.
They have their own perspectives of looking at things. Human
beings are not only meaningful beings but they are conceptual
beings. Humans have their own ideas that what society is all
about? Everybody in society would say that our society doesn’t
allow this and our society is not doing as well as the other society
or our society is great or our society is not so great. Humans not
only have ideas that what constitutes the society but they also
value positions what constitutes the society. This distinctive
nature of the society which is also meaningful and not
comparable to a physical and empirical object makes the
necessity of so many kinds of social perspectives to emerge. Let’s
sort of briefly look at what these kinds of perspectives could be?

77
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

One kind of perspectives which emerge is to model itself exactly

like the natural sciences. We may refer to Auguste Comte as an
example who is often seen as founding father of modern
sociology and he initially thought of calling sociology as social
physics. That is a domain assumption that the society can be
understood very similarly in a manner that physical world is. Such
as social laws can be discovered very similarly to the manner that
physical laws can be discovered. However, even at that point of
time Comte was very careful to state that the sociology would be
the last science to develop and it would be the last science which
is going to be the most difficult to develop. This is because its
object of inquiry which is society is so complex. Subsequently we
had scholars and sociological thinkers like Emile Durkheim who
argued that there is something which is called “Social”. And this
“Social” can be studied by specific delineated methods. Emile
Durkheim wrote a book called “Sociological Methods” and a lot of
it is derived from a sense of naturalistic perspective that we will
be able to discover patterns of society and we will be able to
discovers laws or methods by which we know why one particular
event leads to another particular event or even one phenomenon
leads to another phenomenon. Let us take an example that we
might be aware that Emile Durkheim also did a study on
“Suicides”. He did a comparative study of the rate of suicide
among the catholic community and among the protestant
community. What emerged was that the rate of suicide was
significantly lower among the catholic community. The question
that Durkheim proposed was that in a common-sense we feel that

78
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

the individuals commit suicide for psychological reasons. So, the

cause for the suicide should be lying at the psychological level and
the individual level. How would the sociologist study about it? But
his findings of comparison of suicides showed that there seem to
be a pattern. Why was there a variation between the rate of
suicides among the catholics and the Protestants, the argument
that he put forward was that the catholic society was better
integrated and the societies which are more integrated have low
suicide rate because the individual is able to communicate and
integrate with larger other members of the society better.
Whereas in the Protestant society, individuals were more
developed in their individuality and they were searching for the
truth in a certain sense by themselves. That decline of social
solidarity or integrity lead to the possibility of the individuals
actually to the cause of suicide. So, what Durkheim did through
sociological perspective was to show that something can be
expressed to a comparative analysis but in natural ways.
However, Durkheim was very well aware that “Social” and
“Natural” are not the same but both are distinctive. “Social” is
linguistically constructed, so we can’t get data from the social in
an irregular manner. We have to have a method and perspective
to understand that what constitutes the “social” and “society”. He
gave the concept of “social fact” and gave us a perspective that
how we engage with society. So, this is one kind of perspective
that emphasizes the nature of social behavior as external,
objective and general and as something that an individual has no
choice to make such as where we were born, religion, language,

79
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

family and everything appears to us as an objective reality. As

against this kind of perspective which emphasizes the outside
part, we have other that focuses on the subjective part. A very
central in this is symbolic interactionist. You might be familiar
with the works of George Mead who wrote the book “Mind, Self
and Society”. Many of us would get surprised after knowing that
he actually didn’t wrote the book but the book was put together
by his students after his death. But George Mead was trying to
argue the point that this society is external to us and its objective
but at the same time it’s meaningful and subjective. This can also
be phrased as that “I am the product of the society and I also
produce the society”. That is there is a dialectical between the
subject and the object. This was the insight which was given by
another thinker Karl Marx whose understanding was to
emphasize the manner, with which the “Social behaviour” is being
produced by the human labor but the human beings in return are
constructed by the society. This is mutual and simultaneous. The
famous statement of Karl Marx is that;
The human beings make history but not as a wish, they make
it according to the conditions within which they are located
Karl Marx
For instance I am able to make calls now adays with my phone;
this was made possible due to technology. I can only do what I
can within the conditions that are given to me but what I can do
as subjective is that put my own subjectivity in it. All of us are
similarly positioned in society in forms of objects, products and
the producers. We need to look at it in a dynamic factor. There

80
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

are actually multiple sociological perspectives but if we are willing

to make a one broad concept of it then we can say that one
emphasize the objective external nature of society much like
physical sciences. The other emphasizes the meaningful inner
subjective part that we are able to produce and engage as
producers. While the first type tries to emphasize the cause and
relationship making whether migration leads to dis-integration or
causes diversity. While the other question which we should ask is
that why do people believe while they believe it’s not true, how
do we explain the emotional attachments which may sometimes
go against the rationality of self-interest of the individual. In other
words, the questions that the one who emphasize the subjective
emphasize meaningful aspects. We should only do things but we
should also think about it and we should have certain cognitive
ideas about it. Apart from just thinking about those ideas we
should also be attached with those ideas.
Sociology as a discipline tries to understand the manner in which
the society is constructed. There is a book by Peter L. Berger in
which he talks about the social construction of knowledge and
talks about how we should construct society by ourselves. How do
we make sense out of it, how do we act and how do we interact.
The dynamic relationship between the individual and society is
infact central to sociological Quest. It is central to any sociological
perspective that what is the relation between societies on one
hand and the individual with ideals of self-hood, meaning and
emotions? While considering these, there are also some
perspectives which emphasize one aspect and others who

81
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

emphasize the other aspects. Now we will look at the manner and
scales with which sociologists look into the societies and
perspectives. Some of the sociologists look into the macro
questions while others look into the micro questions. The macro
issues may involve industrialization, capitalism, urbanization and
structures. And the micro issues may include human behaviours
and symbolic interaction etc. The most important thing for us to
understand is that these are not compartmentalized rather these
are just manners by which we can understand the society.
Suppose that I introduce a perspective of hoax sociological
perspective and you not find it in any particular textbook or
reference book, then you should not get worried because these
textbooks are created by the individuals like us and since we all
know that the knowledge is not fixed. As the knowledge changes,
the controls of the discipline also change. So we may have a lot of
types of perspectives and very different kinds and types of books.
What is important for us is to validate and look that who were the
theorists in original who articulated that kinds of perspectives. If
we want to get deep analysis of the societies of today or of even
past then we will have to get involved with studying the sacred
texts about the behaviors of society and all the sociological
perspectives of past. The study of the old civilizations benefits a
lot in making our studies better of today. Subsequently, there was
a great deal of criticism about this approach that the field views or
the actual society that has not necessarily corresponded to the
text view. And the sociologists opt to go to the fields to figure out
that how the people live. A really nice example to consider with

82
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

this is that the sociologists go for studying the behaviors based on

Caste. The word “Caste” is attributed to Portuguese “Casta” which
means race or breed.
The point that I want to bring forward is the distinction between
the book view and the field view. We might see a small aperture
when we consider the study of book view whereas a greater sight
to see when we consider the field view because the caste may
have the sub-caste and sub-caste may have their own sub-caste
and they all may resemble with all others. So what happens at this
stage is that the text book becomes limited and it has its own
constraints. If we have to fnd out that what was the theological
perspective but its not quite suffice to understand how society
actually operates. I will take you to the point actually where I
began at, that why do we have so many perspectives? Why we
can’t have just one single perspective? And the argument which I
always like to put forward is that the complexity of the society
itself demands that. I will also give example with what I mean by
the complexity and by the dynamism of society. For example, we
had a certain understanding of the society for very long which
people thought was from a male perspective and many events or
incidents or situations of women were neglected because the
patriarchal perspective was on rise. There is another example to
consider is the concept of work. In the earlier times, very often
people found very few women mentioned as women workers but
as the time passed, there were more and more women in the
industry, market and job fields but they were not counted as
significant workforce of the society. This was like this because the

83
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

people didn’t recoginise that the nature of work looked very

different. If we look at it from the work to be done and the people
wanted to see the work to be organized, therefore there was a
group of feminists who started the feminist movement and their
own feminine perspective. Recently, we have seen a lot of other
perspectives which may include the post-colonial perspective and
adult perspective etc have enriched sociology therefore to
conclude we must assure that the multiplicity of the perspectives
is the strength of sociology. It is necessarily linked to the nature of
society which is complex, multifaceted and inhabited by the
concept made by human beings.
Now, I will discuss about the sociological concepts. The point that
I will first mention that there is an intrinsic relationship between
sociological perspectives and sociological concepts. One might say
that when we study sociology different parts are connected even
when we analyze the theory then different parts are connected.
This is so because the society is a combination of interlinked parts.
We can’t study them as discrete and separate parts. So, we must
first realize that there is a relationship between perspectives and
the concepts. Perspective is a way with which we look at the
society; it’s basically the theoretical framework that is the
perspective with which we are trying to make sense what is going
on in the society. Each sociological perspective usually generates
its own analytical tools which we call as concepts and they are of
keen importance. Whenever we take the example of census as a
sociological study and analysis then this example is basically all
about the numbers and nothing can be more objective than the

84
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

numbers. In a society the concept of work as being used generally

had got associated with a certain type of work, that work which is
being done in an organized commercial sector, that work which is
done on salaries and that work which has a legitimate
institutionalized recoginition in the government documents or the
other documents. Whereas the work which is invisible means the
categories and concepts are the analytical tools which help us to
render certain things visible while some invisible. So, until or
unless we have a gender critique of category of the work, we did
not have an attempt to expand what constitutes the work. There
are a lot of works which are not well calculated such as the
working of a cooperate sector of world. So, we can say that the
concept was re-articulated. The concepts are basically not the
fixed entities. The concepts are not the hard and fast rule based
things. The concepts are analytical tools and we mistake them as
fixed entities. Concepts help us to see certain things and it’s about
the plural perspectives and an on-going debate within the plural
perspectives. In the case of the work, it can be a social movement,
government policies and civil societies which all together declair
that we have to redefine the work. This brings us to the second
half of concepts that they are not fixed, they change eventually
and that they are socially constructed. They are not divinely
ordained, thus it is very important to learn the concept by
memory. A concept helps us to understand and it never have any
fixed and bound entities.
A particular kind of perspective very often generates certain kinds
of concepts and in other perspectives generates certain other

85
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

kinds of concepts. Some concepts are generally accepted and

used in the discipline. For example, in the field of sociology we are
well aware and familiar with the concept of status, class, diffusion
and the assimilation but here I want to mention that how all such
concepts are related and linked with the perspective. I am
mentioning that perspective which is very much dominant in
sociology as well as in the social anthropology and that is
“Functionalism”. The functionalist perspective is a perspective or
theory which tries to compare the nature of society to a biological
organism. The argument which established this perspective was
that there are parts in the biological organisms that work for
equilibirium. Each part plays its part and as together the required
function is performed to sustain the working and maintaining the
hope. Our society is made up of different discrete parts and each
part has a particular role and together they are able to let the
particular society or human organism function. Within the
perspective of functionalism, there were some articulated
concepts of status and role. The assumption of this is that there
are positions in a society which we call as status in society and this
establishes the presence of stratification in the society. Social
stratification refers to the system by which a society ranks
categories of people in a hierarchy. In a society, it is perfectly
clear that some groups have greater status, power, and wealth
than other groups. These differences lead to social stratification.
There are four principles of social stratification.
1. Social stratification is socially defined as property of a
society rather than individuals of that society.

86
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

2. Social Stratification is reproduced from generation to

generation.
3. Social Stratification is universal (found in all societies) but
variable (differs because of time and place)
4. Social Stratification involves not just the quantitative
inequality but qualitative beliefs and attitudes about social
statuses.

The incumbent occupies a particular status. Let’s say if you are a

teacher so we will say that you are an incumbent and not the
status. The status or profession of teaching is independent of the
teacher. As a teacher you will be having certain roles to play. Now
if you are a man or a woman then you will simultaneously be
having the certain roles to play as per your gender. These roles
are given and they are very important for the society to function
as in equilibirium so that the disfunction can not prevail in the
society. Functionalism as being a perspective has been accused
often times for defending the existence of capitalism and status
quo. The status quo is the current state of things. If you are rich
and admired, then you're probably not interested in disrupting
the status quo. Status quo is Latin for "existing state." When we
talk about status quo, however, we often mean it in a slightly bad
way. The functionalist perspective defends the society as it is. It is
thought that it’s built on an assumption which in a fundamental
sense can be called common sense based. Let us now consider a
common example of the targeted person such as a sociologist of
great reputation who also had a great impact in society and

87
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

sociology and questioned the role where he said that the effective
and efficient family in an industrial society, the man must be the
breadwinner and that would be the most instrumental role that
man has to perform. In contrast, the woman who looks after the
house and is more domestic will be playing the passive role that is
looking after emotions, caretaking, upbringing children, cleaning
and washing and a whole host of activities which we associate
with domesticity and reproduction of the new generation. In a
certain sense, there is not a problem with all this but the only
issue is that the description of it often existing nuclear family
rather than the analytical category which allows us to understand
the variety of societies that exist in this world. As all of us are
familiar that many of the families belong to middle class and may
not have mothers who went out for work. But there are still some
families who belong to poor as well as the working class and their
mothers go out for earning. This introduces a more complex
concept. The concept of class, caste, or maybe the concept of
whether you are located in a region which is rural or urban and it
all complicates the notion of status and roles. In other words, we
then have to distinguish whether status and roles are for ever
fixed and not changing or do we have a normative set of ideas
whether which kind of status is good and which kind of role is
good. So, functionalism as a theory which was based on a certain
understanding of what would be an ideal, modern and developed
society roughly corresponding to what people thought was north
& west European modern post worldwar-II society would be the
typically good society. The problem is that the scientific temper of

88
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

sociology is that we do not take the normative as given. What is

good in one society will not be the good in another society. The
questions which we ask are different in nature with respect to the
factors as well as the outcomes. So when we look at the concept
of status, concept of role, and concept of work then we will notice
that how different perspectives will be asking different kinds of
questions. For instance, if we take the Marxist concept of labor
then it will ask different questions about the concept of work. As
in the worldwar II, the great number of men went for the war and
the domestic economy, industries and service sectors were looked
after by the women who had to come to take place and
responsibility of men. When the war was ended and the men
from war areas came back then the women who took control of
all the responsibilities were told to go back to the homes. This
prompted the idea of Marx known as the reserve army of labor.
The women workforce was considered as the reserve army of
labor which was brought in as labor was required and was left
when the labor was not required. So, it is very important to see
the concepts from a historical point of view. Now let us consider
another very important example that is of partition 1947 when
Pakistan came into being.
There were many communities which were affected by the
division of the countries. The people who were very rich had lost
their wealth for the country, men and women who never worked
before started to become part of the workforce for developing of
the societies and the country. This was a certain situation when
the ideas about the work were changed a lot. Different people

89
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

had to change their perspectives which they were having before

the partition and think about the new ideas, concepts and
perspectives. Now when we come to understand the micro
perspectives which include the symbolic interactionism, social
constructionism then we see that such set of ideas generates
more set of concepts. Sometimes the concepts are quite common.
It could be still the roles and statuses but what happens is to show
the manner in which people learn those roles and statuses and
also the great scholars try to create confusion to show how the
roles and statuses, and identity of incumbent are inter-related
and differ in the different kinds of societies, communities, and
different kinds of classes. So the idea of work could be a taboo in
certain types of communities even in the United States of America
upon which the Sociologist presented his study that men should
work for earning roles and the women should be playing the
expressive role usually as domestic and emotional. We have a
great number of researches and studies which show that a lot of
rural households are female headed because of the orange stage
dynamism and the capitalist markets. So when we think of a
“concept”, we must not just say how we define this concept but
we must say how this concept can help us to analyze and show us
different parts of the society. Just like a camera which may take a
photograph and we may say that it’s absolutely truth because this
is photograph of somebody, but then the people might say that
why you have not taken the photograph of someone else. What is
frame of reference of frame of context in which that photo was
taken by somebody?

90
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

So the perspectives in that sense is frameworks and concepts are

therefore are derived from that particular framework. Let us again
take a concept to get into more detail of it. Consider the concept
of culture. Social Anthropology studied other cultures and made
the understanding central. The understanding was that culture
was territorially bound. That is people inhabiting a particular
geographical territory had a particular culture. In other words,
culture and geography are coterminous so very often it is said we
study the culture of the communities which are bounded as well
as are very simple communities. That opinion of culture has come
to a great amount of critique in the contemporary times. The
concept of culture which was once associated with the bounded
territory has now come to be associated with other concepts of
the multi-culturalism. In a developed modern society and an
urban society, many cultures are living side by side. We have
noticed that the concepts of culture started acquiring new
dimensions. Likewise, there are other concepts like in sociology,
social sciences or even in humanities who argue that when we say
that somebody is cultured, there is an assumption that we are
talking about the high culture such as a learned person and a
skillful person come under this category. This too came under
critique by both the sociologists and social anthropologists for
whom everything which is socially constructed is the culture. It’s
not only the learning, skills, music, art and anything else of that
sort. Not even the food I eat, but also the tools which I use to
sustain my life. Culture is that which is not natural and it is always
constructed out of our norms, values and the understanding of

91
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

our environment.
At one point of time, people felt that if they come to one place
and study the people then they will be studying the one culture.
Increasingly people find that there is great deal of migration and
the cultures are spread whereas they also felt the need to shift
from one culture to the other with which the new concept rose by
the name of “Globalization”. We have different people of
different origins in different parts of the world. All have different
language, different eating habbits, different schools of thoughts,
different clothing styles, different likes and dislikes and similarly
different educational levels. The culture is constantly evolving and
making advancements in the lives of people every new day. So,
we have a multiple list of concepts but the need is of emphasis
that is always on the history, limits, and possibilities of the
concepts. The much better analogy to understand this would be
the process which is unfolding. These are the tools which we use
to explore. Maybe in the middle of the field work we find that this
concept is not helping and we will have to take another stand on
another concept. So, we have to understand as our instrument in
order to understand the “social” or “reality”. The concepts apart
from the status and roles and apart from culture, we have other
concepts for example institutions whether it is a concept? Social
institutions & sociology will continue to question those human
beings as they continue to act and make a habbit of acting in a
particular manner, the habitual form of behavior leads to certain
types of institutionalizations. But the other question that arises is
that whether it’s the automatic response just too repeated

92
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

habitualization leads institutionalizations or are there roles of

differential parts of society with different sort of powers. We may
say that whether state is the more powerful institution than the
university in which a professor is teaching. But its partial true
because some institutions such as college is also of great
importance as compared to the state because schools, colleges
and the universities aids in giving power to the nation in terms of
workforce and education.
The sociology is not needed just to explain and define power or to
define power as a separate entity without depending on any
factor. The power is something which is inherited in any social
formation. It is only the nature of power that historically changes.
The concept of power will remain the same but we need to see
that our understanding of power as embedded in a particular
concept holds the good in transformed world situations. For
example, the peak of globalization made people to say that the
state is loosing the power of its soverignity. Because the global
institutions like World Bank or IMF is the cause that the states
have gone into the commitments which have greater role to play
in society. Also the phenomenon of state is not more important
than the family but the state is powerful and the power of both
can not match each other. This relates the power with the help of
the roles that everybody have and every institute of the society
have. Such power is not only coercive but also effective and
cognitive. At last we might ask the question that many people ask
from the sociologist that there are many people who ask about
the importance of concepts since these concepts are only words

93
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

and also don’t encompass the physicality of the universe. There

are several concepts about the physical world around us but the
concept we need to understand is that these concepts of
sociology helps in the making of the perspectives and schools of
thought. The concepts develop on their own with the involvement
of the other phenomenons of the nature of human interaction.
The question manifests the way of thinking and that is so because
the questions make up the half of answer by giving it a proper
structure in which the answer could withstand its presence. The
common sense concept and the sociological concept are both
very closely inter-linked. Something which is little different in the
field of sociology is that it’s always Self-conscious about concept,
its meaning and its limits. We are unable to claim that this is best
concept but we are always compelled to stay positive and equal
with all the concepts whenever we are discussing something in
terms of sociology or the social sciences.

Perception

W
HAT DOES PERCEPTION MEANS? And what
i s t h e r e l a t i o n between perceptions, the mind, brain,
consciousness and the reality?

“The perceptive act is a reaction of the mind upon the object of which
it is the perception.”
Samuel Alexander

This is a very deep philosophical question that western

Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

philosophers and scientists have been pondering literally for

thousands of years and still struggle with it today. The perception
is something which does really not exist by itself rather it’s an
illusion. We will also be discussing that why many a times we get
perceptions so wrong and why only few people understand it.
There are many many philosophers, academics and neuro-
scientists who are currently in the World’s top universities trying
to understand this problem and they still are not getting it
answers because it is a lot tricky and confusing.
This is not because I am saying that I am very much intelligent and
other people don’t know much. It’s just that this problem which is
commonly known to be the mind-body problem which we will
resolve today. This problem has been resolved with over five
thousand years by the saints and sages.
But the problem is that the modern western culture and the
modern science don’t really go to these ancient sources to study
them and to practice and to realize what they have realized. So
we will be discussing this concept from a modern, materialistic
and capitalist perspective. It’s actually not about the contradiction
that I am talking about the perception and even then I am
neglecting its importance. The perception about which I am trying
to convince to all of you is that which is life-transforming and
something which is as influential as anything in the world. If you
grasp what I am trying to convey then you will be easily
understading the core concept of perception. So the perception
contrary to what most people are taught is not a biological or a
neurological process and perception doesn’t actually occur. When

96
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

we say that, we don’t mean, what others think we mean.

Obviously the raw data of perception is not deniable, so I am not
going to deny the colors, shape, sound etc. Let us first of all
clearify that what the word “Perception” actually means? In order
to understand perception, we will also be discussing about the
experiences, visual fields and all of the similar words for our ease.
So whenever I will be talking about the visual field, ofcourse that’s
the part of the perception, also there are the auditory fields. Your
body sensations are part of the experiences and the perception.
But when you will be able to grasp the concept of the visual fields
then you will be able to understand well about the others fields of
the perception that maybe experience and so on.
The perception or experience which we are talking about is the
sensory bubble in which we are present. Whatever room you are
sitting in, wherever you are, it does not matter. You are basically
in this bubble of perceptions. This is how you interact with the
reality. You know that humans are very visual creatures so for us
it might be a visual bubble but ofcourse everything happening is
happening inside this bubble. The words “Perception” and
“Experience” are very sneaky words and they carry in a hidden
metaphysics because perception and experience, the way they
are used in language, they imply the subject and an object. This is
a very deep point which many people overlook. Let’s say there is a
perception or an experience but nobody is having it, this is what I
mean by subject and object. So the subject is maybe any person
A, and the object maybe the color red that the person is seeing at
the wall, so basically what we mean is that the perception and

97
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

experience requires the subject or someone who is having the

experience, so lets say if there is a free flowing experience
somewhere or a red color floating somewhere, then you might be
saying that this is a wrong statement since its not possible that
you have a red color floating in the universe. Someone has
perceived it because that’s the impulsive metaphysics that comes
with thinking about perceptions and experiences. So, if we open
up our mind a little more and think about what does an
experience or perception look like when we remove the subject or
the owner of the perception or the experience and let us imagine
if the color red is floating out in the vacuum of empty space, not
something that is related to you. You maybe not seeing or
experiencing it and that would mean nothing since you are
splitting the object and the subject. The object or that thing
maybe just out there in space without a creature or entity looking
at it and experiencing it, would you still be calling this an
experience, or a perception? If that was even possible, some may
call this should be an experience or a perception and it’s not
occurring to anybody or related to anybody. But then that really
changes what we think or experience that what perception really
is?
If it can be experienced or perceived without an experience or a
perceiver, that sort of radically redefines what those terms mean
and not just in a wording game type of way but in a very
significant different way. So if we consider that if it could happen
then the raw data of this experience, or perception would stay the
same such as colors and shapes. But something that would

98
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

happen is the radical re-contextualization such that the raw data

of red is no longer yours and it’s no longer a thing that is
happening to you. That is very significant. It’s been de-
personalized one might say. And along with that its also no longer
a biological, its no longer something related to your mind or body,
its no longer even the part of your life because all of that assumes
you or the subject that is part of this relationship with the object,
its just a pure object we might say. Or another way to say is that
we have removed the entire personal self hood out of this thing,
and we have just turned it into a universal experience. So you
might think of it as the universe that is experiencing the color red
in the vacuum. We should not be thinking the universe to be the
person or a thing but it’s just an object floating out there, sort of
the way that you might have imagine e.g that an object might
have been floating out in the vacuum of empty space billions and
trillions of years ago. But we even think that there were asteroids,
planets, stars, star dusts, nebulas, super-novas, black holes and
stuff like that. So you might wonder that who perceived those,
obviously nobody, there was nobody there to perceive them. And
yet we think that there were those objects and they existed.
So I want you to imagine an object that existed all by itself in the
universe with no one perceiving it. What that might be like? How
the universe would would know or register that this object is
there. This is a very deep problem. How does the universe even
know itself, like if an asteroid existed ten billion years ago, so did
the universe kind of have a database of all the asteroids that kind
of know how many asteroids are in it. Well we might think it in

99
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

that but still it’s not quite right because what does it mean for the
universe like if this database exists, and some entity looking at the
database, seeing at database, perceiving the database, no we
can’t really say that because the universe hasn’t evolved to the
point where there are sentient creatures. So we will be in a quite
weird situation when we say that there is this database but
nobody actually knows about it. So what does it even mean to say
that there is a database? Because what we mean when we say
that something is then we perceive it or someone perceives it. So
this takes us to deep metaphysical oceans that are very much
difficult in navigating but let us go to the current perception of
reality which we all have. The perception which might get you
confused about what perception is?
1. What you believe is that there is an objective external
material world and this world exists independently of you.
This is what we all believe.
2. There are two kinds of objects in this world. There are dumb
objects like cars, mountains, rocks, buildings and planets.
And the others are sentient creatures like humans, animals
and birds.
3. You believe that these sentient creatures and objects
perceive the external world and that every creature has this
perceptual field that is their perception of the external
world.
4. You believe that you were born into the world as one of
these biological sentient creatures. You believe that this is
what you are.

100
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

5. You believe that the perceptual field that you have as one of
these creatures is inside of the brain or is produced by the
brain which is itself a dumb object or a rock which exists as
part of the external world. You might say that how this
dumb object called a brain can produce this perceptual field
but nevertheless it does.
So this is the conventional model. This is sort of scientific,
materialistic model that everybody follows even the religious
people. This can be on the other side an illusion created by the
ego. That is not exactly how it works. It works in a way that is
described below as:
1. There is no objective external material world. Only one
thing exists in all the existence and that is one universal
field of consciousness. That is what everything you have
ever interacted with has been is this one universal field of
consciousness.
2. You did not come into existence as an object, not as a
dumb object nor as one of the sentient creatures. This is
the illusion. Actually you were born as an idea. We must
be pondering on what does this mean that we are not an
object but we are an idea. Actually, this is the idea that
you are a physical object. You are not in actual a physical
object but you are an idea that you are a physical object.
3. This idea of you when it correspond into being and into
existence, it takes ownership of this field of consciousness
and mis-interpreted it as its own perceptions.
So if you right now, find yourself in this perceptual bubble or

101
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

field and you believe that this field is yours, you believe that it is
you. You actually believe that this comprises your life like if this
bubble was removed then that is what you imagine death is.
Similarly what you imagine life and birth is the initiation of this
bubble. And what we are discussing here is that there was this
field which stretches out to infinity and then one day this field has
an idea and the idea was that this field is mine and this is my life
and what you actually did is that you constructed ego when it
came into existence. It constructed out of this field, this sense of
“self-hood” and then it convinced itself that if this is my life and
that is what happening then I must perceive some external world
behind the scenes somewhere. And these are the perceptions of
that external world behind the scenes. That external objective,
material world which you might have never encountered because
all what you have encountered is this perceptual field in which
you are present. So literally the sense of “self-hood” has distorted
this non-personal field and has made it personal for you. And you
have actually constructed your own life out of it. You sort of
carved your own life out of this large block of stone and confused
it with your Self. This is where the idea of perception comes in but
ofcourse there is no such thing as perception. In the same way,
let’s say you are a child and you are given a toy and you are really
attached to this toy and you believe that this is my toy. But
ofcourse when you were given the toy, nothing changed about
the toy. The toy before it was your toy was still a toy. Nobody
owned it, you didn’t own it. It was just an object floating around
the universe. They gave it to you, you got so attached to it and

102
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

now you call it your own toy. But ofcourse you have created that
perception. Nothing happens to the toy when you say that this is
your toy. Except this is quite significant to realize that this toy is
not really mine and that I am creating the idea that its mine. So,
what I am saying all about is not a word game. Because it does
matter when a child is deluded and really believes that he owns
this toy. That ownership is some sort of objective reality or
property of the universe rather than the projection of the child
mind. So that is belief that this perceptual field is your own is just
a part of your biological being or the creature we are that this just
like that child reacting to that toy. This type of co-opting of this
field of consciousness by your ego happens so seem-lessly that we
took it as a physical fact. And we just completely embodied with
the idea that we are biological sentient creature and the parent
had reinforced this idea when we were young because the
parents were also embodied with the same idea and they were
very conscious and they reinforced the idea that we are the
sentient creature. And we were told that other sentient creatures
exist like birds, animals, plants and other humans and we start to
believe that all other such creatures are also the sentient
creatures like us.
But the reality is that we were carved out of the field of
consciousness like a negative sculpture and this looks like a
rectangle which looks like its real at first sight but that’s only the
way how it was carved out by all the surrounding material. And so
that is what we are. We are not the object that came into
existence rather we are the hole that was sort of carved out of

103
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

this field of consciousness. And so what we believe about death is

that this illusion of structure which will break apart this rectangle
per say of this analogy we discussed. But that rectangle does not
really exist there but it’s just like a negative space and that’s what
we are. We are just like a negative space within the perceptual
field of what we are taking as perception. But if we remove the
“YOU”, then what is left? The perceptions don’t change. The raw
data of the perceptions don’t change. The colors are the same,
shapes are the same, sounds are the same and all other things are
the same and all are at their same place. The only thing which we
are removing is the “YOU”. This might not seem significant at first
but when we go deeper then it is extremely significant. Because
what we saying is that these perceptions are not happening to the
biological creatures but these perceptions are only floating out in
the empty space. It is actually very simple as well as very difficult.
Actually it’s the model that I have discussed earlier; it’s the
conventional model that’s really twisted. What I am explaining
now is actually very simple but the only reason that it seems
twisted is that it’s so counter-intuitive. And it’s so weird. It seems
so magical and it seem so much science-fiction story and
impossible. It seems to be a lot radical and it is so because we are
talking about the radical contextualization of everything that we
have ever encountered in our life. We are re-interpreting how we
have been interpreting all of the raw data of reality our entire life.
We have been mistaking that for perceptions of a biological
creature and organism we think we are. And now we are saying
that there was no such biological creature organism but that was

104
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

an illusion. That was like a negative space that we thought was

real. So, we can think about all this in two different ways and this
is ofcourse non-duality. It means that all boundaries and dualities
and categories must collapse. So ofcourse you must expect that
the duality between subject and the object must ultimately
collapse but you can think of that in two ways. You can think that
the object disappears and only the subject remains or you can
think of the subject disappears and only the object remains. You
can think of it as though the external world is not real and never
actually exist, so that external material objective role that you
thought was out there behind your perceptions, causing your
perceptions. What we are saying is that there is not such thing
and it never existed. The way to say that is that the appearance is
reality; there is nothing more to reality than experience. So, that
is sort of one side of this coin but actually this is sort of a more
profound way to think about it which is actually the exact
opposite way which is not to eliminate the external world but
rather to eliminate the internal world. Because if we eliminate the
external world then all of us might think that there is just this
internal world. Just appearances and the appearances, we think of
that as the internal world. But now think of it in another way, you
could think of it as the internal world is not real and never existed.
And all that was ever existed was the External world. But you have
mistaken the external world for the internal world. And so now,
we are re-interpreting it and putting it into its proper place such
that what we have thought was the internal world. All of this, all
of the colors and all the sensations, this is what I mean by the

105
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

internal world. We have thought this being the internal world

because we call all this subjective and we say that some people
might be color blind and they see different colors. Or maybe a dog
has black and white vision, dog can not see in colors. So a flower
will be black and white for a dog and colorful for a person, this is
because of their presence in their different perceptual fields. But
now let us consider that there was no internal world, what you
thought was the internal world is actually the external world. So
this means that we are actually changing what the external world
actually mean. The external world is not something which is
behind the scenes and hidden and we are not going to interact
with. It’s exact opposite and the internal world is completely open
to you not hidden from you at all. We might think that this might
be the polar opposite ways of thinking about reality and which
way is correct? But in actual they are identical. Its just different
ways of looking at it and different perspectives, now we will
notice that in both of these examples, the raw data was not
changed. The colors were the same, shapes were the same;
sounds were the same, feelings and the bodies remain the same.
All that changing is the way how you are interpreting all of that.
And that is extremely significant and life-changing stuff. Don’t
think of interpretation as something philosophical. The
interpretation is everything while we discuss this concept. Now,
let us imagine as you are sitting and re-interpret you experience
of what is happening around, all the colors and sounds and sights.
Imagine about re-interpreting that so radically that you actually
cease to exist. You re-interpret yourself out of existence. Because

106
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

you are removing the subject, what you thought was an

experience or a perception where there was a subject and an
object out there. But now we are eliminating the subject such that
it really never existed. That is like the empty rectangle from the
negative space, and that’s eliminated. Now, what we see is just
the material that was carving out the negative rectangle. So if we
are literally able to accomplish this, we re-interpret ourselves out
of existence and that is pretty radical because then we no longer
think of this as our life because it stop being personal. It’s no
longer our life. It’s no longer our perceptions. But its all being
universalized, it’s became the “Being” rather than the perception.
And that is one of the key things which we should understand.
The difference between experience/perception and “Being” is
important to understand because if we are not going to
understand the perception then we will not be able to understand
the being. The definition of the “Being” is described in form of an
expression below that is;
Being = Perception – Ego
Being = Experience – Ego
Or we can easily describe the experience as;
Experience = Being + Ego
So, whenever we take experience and we separate the subject
and remove it then afterwards all that we have is the “Being”.
That is like when we were imagining an object or the color red just
floating out in the middle of an empty space. Like an asteroid that
existed ten billion years ago when there were no sentient
creatures in the universe. That was the “Being” because there was

107
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

no subject there and then conventionally what you have been

experiencing your whole life was perception or experience which
is basically an illusion because really perception or experience
really is nothing but “Being”. There is no difference between
“Being” and “Perception” other than the way you interpreted or
rather the way you mis-interpreted. So, perception and
experience are both the mis-interpretation of the Being and this
mis-interpretation happens because the ego comes in there and it
takes ownership over “Being” and it says that this is mine and this
is me and so on. When that happens, you get experience or
perception and if you stop doing that and you train your mind to
undo that then you will de- contractualize the perception and
experience, then it will go back to just being the “Being” but
ofcourse that means you are going to be dead. There is not going
to be “You” but there is going to be the “Being”. In clarity, it
doesn’t mean that these colors and shapes and sounds that we
hear will change, they will still be here but there will not be the
“You” experiencing them. That is a radical change in perception.
So, now let us use the analogy to think about how this unified
field of consciousness works. Let us take an example of a sponge.
The tiny little holes on the sponge were in actual the hollow
spheres before they were cut to make a sponge. But similarly
inside the sponge there are complete hollow spheres in form of
bubbles. And so the sponge represents all of the reality or all of
the existence. This is everything that ever existed or ever will
exist. This is that one unified space of consciousness that I am
referring to. This is everything that we have ever experienced and

108
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

a lot more than that. Because what you are in this analogy is that
you are one of these bubbles, and what you see inside is the back
of that bubble or sphere. So that’s like our whole life. We have
lived our whole life like that bubble and even right now we are
living like that we are inside of this bubble. Now, we have
believed our whole life like that bubble but we have also believed
that there is something beyond the bubble, some objective or
material external reality. We have also believed that this bubble is
happening to some kind of object like there is a brain somewhere
in the external world or there is some biological creature that is
experiencing this bubble. But what we can realize from this
analogy is that there is no subject, there is only the bubble. There
is only the object, the entire sponge is just free-floating out in the
vacuum of empty space. But who is experiencing and perceiving
this sponge? And the answer to that is nobody. There is nobody to
perceive the presense of this sponge. The sponge is just as it is
and that is what we refer as “Being” and it is something that is
just is without anybody looking at it. This doesn’t change the way
how the sponge looks but it changes how you understand the
looking to be. This eliminates “You” from the equation and it de-
personalizes everything. Well, it’s still a little inaccurate to say
that this sponge is just floating out in the vacuum of empty space
because actually the sponge doesn’t occure within the time and
space. But the time and space is happening inside the sponge. The
sponge is not even limited by the physical laws as per we took it
to be out of what we say the reality. This is because all those
physical laws are present inside of that sponge and even inside of

109
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

all the bubbles and spaces. Each maybe having the own laws, own
times and even own realities.
We can take as many dimensions as we want to be in that sponge
reality whether internal or external. The sponge is actually infinite
by itself. So ofcourse right now I am presenting it to you as a
physical dimension object in the analogy that we are discussing.
The sponge itself is actually infinite, so ofcourse I am presenting it
to you as a three dimensional object in the analogy I am referring
to; let’s imagine that the sponge doesn’t really have a space. It
extends in every direction and even in the infinite number of
dimensions. So, if you have imagined that then the sponge
couldn’t have a space or shape whether its round or sphere. It
literally takes everything. It’s total and infinite. And we are just
like the tiny little bubble in the giant thing called a sponge per say.
The other thing to consider is that every other human being is like
that bubble in the sponge reality. But before that, consider
whether those bubbles are real but no they are not. These
bubbles are just really sort of illusions present in the reality to
make its existence predictable. There is no such substance called a
bubble. It’s completely hollow. And are these bubbles separate.
No, but these bubbles are exact opposite and unified, infact the
space of all these bubbles is the exact same space. It is one space
and its one emptiness. Whenever we say that we all are one it’s
because of the presence of one single space or perception in
which we are present. Infact, the analogy of sponge describes that
all the realites of the sponge comprise to be the one single reality
of it. But in order to identify that we will have to stop identifying

110
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

each single bubble separately. And we need to realize that we are

the entire thing and not only the entire thing but the entire thing
is also infinite, and when we grasp that concept then that is what
we call per say enlightenment. Enlightenment goes from here
believing that we are one of these bubbles realizing that you are
the entire sponge and your entire sponge is infinite. We should
not be taking the example of sponge so literally because there are
limitations and we are limited to the language and we are
necessarily dualistic but you can grasp it easily. You can easily
grasp it with your consciousness by realizing that you do not
perceive the sponge but you are the entire sponge and infact
there is nobody who will perceive this sponge. There is only the
sponge and only the external world as per say. It’s the same thing
like when we say that the external world and the internal world
merge into one another which is in actuall called as non-duality. It
is the collapsing of all categories and distinctions including the
distinctions between subjects and objects, inner and outer,
internal and external, mind and bodies. So, we are going from the
mind and body dualism of Descartes and we are unifying them
into one field of consciousness. We may experience this shift with
the help of an exercise given below:
1. Ground yourself in Actuality that is you have to look at
your hand and realize that this hand is the actuality. And
notice this actuality to be the part of this perceptual
bubble that we have discussed earlier. Your surrounding is
the visual field and you have to find it and become
conscious of it. Put all the awareness at top of it.

111
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

2. Now, try to notice that all of it is not biology and you are
not a biological creature. Also notice that this visual field is
not your’s. It only feels that it’s your life and constitutes
your whole life. Look at your hand and feel that this is just
an object floating out in the vacuum of empty space. What
there is present is only the “Being” and that is your hand.
So, de-personalize your experience of the “You”. Try not to
see this life as your experiences or as your perceptions.
This is the external world and it’s not hidden from you
rather it’s totally laid bare before the eyes. This is how the
external world looks and is like that. This is not us as
creatures experiencing the external world. This is the raw
world you have full access to reality right now. This visual
field that you have always thought is part of our biology,
this is not like that. This is the raw fabric of the universe.
That means the universe has shapes, colors, smells,
sounds, emotions, feelings, thought and ideas. It can think
and it can understand. That’s not the biology rather it’s the
raw and physical universe.

This is something which was always there and always present but
the problem is that we have mis-interpreted this, our whole life
and we have always assumed that these are just subjective
properties and stuff that happens to biological organisms inside of
brains. We will have to stop assuming that. That was the
groundless assumption and that was the bad assumption rather
what the raw universe is that what it actually is. It’s not basically

112
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

happening to us but it’s actually happening to itself. It’s

happening without us. It has always been happening without us.
The only time that we think its happening to us is when we think
is happening to us. When we are not thinking about it, it’s not
happening to us, its just there for itself. When we did it then the
ego or the self away from this experience here and this changes
the experience to not being an experience anymore but to just
being an Absolute “Being” and “Truth”. Don’t expect the truth to
look different. The color, smell, sound and sight won’t change.
The only thing which you are going to realize is that you will
realize that there were never you here and everything is just
absolute pure truth. The presence of pure being, and if we are
unable to understand this concept then it’s not a really big
problem because this stuff doesn’t require a little time to
understand it but it takes a lot of focus and time. This is why
sometimes it is somehow difficult to realize the absolute eternal
“Being” because it’s not different than what we have always been
experiencing. It’s a radical re-interpretation or re-
contextualization of something which we have been experiencing
or perceiving. This is the reason why we always say that the
enlightenment is always around us and we just need to identify its
spark and glimpse. This is somehow right because there is
something happening around us which are all because of
enlightenment. The basic issue is that we are always mis-
interpretting it. So, what we need to change is our mis-
interpretation. We are sort of bound in this illusion and we need
to break out of this illusion and that is what we call “Waking up”.

113
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

Then there comes a time when we say that everything was

already here, but we were not aware of its presence. The reason
why we never realized it or mis-interpreted it is because of our
drive to live and survive and the fear of death. The survival
became of first priority and the reason that the absolute eternal
“Being” is so much difficult to realize and the enlightenment is so
rare because we don’t want to neglect our Ego and surrender our
own self for this cause. Before we can unlock the enlightenment
and focus on it, we need to surrender a lot of our psychological
fears, because when we will start doing this process correctly then
we may feel a lot of depressing moments. This is because our do
not play fair and our mind wants to survive and survival is not
about truth rather it’s about the lies and deception. Our minds are
maybe working overtime and it’s hard to maintain the deception
that we have been dealing with all of our lives. So if we truly want
to realize what we are discussing then we will have to put an end
to ourselves. That may seem to be called as death but death really
is not something which we all really believe it is. Death doesn’t
mean the sensation of perceptions and colors but it means the
illumination of the ideas of being “You” which is what we have
always been experiencing from the first day of our existence.
There is never going to be a physical death because that assumes
that we were a physical object but that was a false assumption, so
there is not going to be a physical death but only thing that is
present is the conceptual death. But if we say that the physical
death is also true, then that is totally another concept to study
and to focus and to observe under consideration. The mind traps

114
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

us by mistaking these concepts for physical reality. That is why the

people are so sensitive when we question them about their meta-
physical beliefs or their tradition beliefs or even their scientific
materialistc beliefs. When we question then we literally pull apart
their entire reality and what they fear is not that reality will fall
apart but it’s the attachment that they have with their beliefs.
That is actually the fear of insanity because when the reality starts
to fall apart then the stages of depressions comes. When we
question reality deep enough that we experience death and then
afterwards what remains is the sponge in the eternal space
without the presence of you and yourself. If we have realized that
we are not in the bubbles or among the bubbles then we accept
the reality that our whole life is trying to maintain the sense that
we are the bubble and if we even come closer to the concept that
we are not the bubble then our Ego goes very emotional and
hyper-sensitive in order to distract us from the truth and drive us
deeply into the false-hood and that is what mostly our bad and
negative emotions do. They drive us deep into the illusion that we
are one of these bubbles of perception. I am basically trying to
explain the mechanics of the entire game of life and I am trying to
reveal it. Once we understand it at a cellular level, then our life
never be the same again. This will transform our entire relation
with the life and the human beings too.
Now, it might still wonder that if I am saying that the universe is
like self aware, that is what we are saying because if there is
nobody to perceive the sponge then how is it possible that the
sponge can be perceived? This can lead us to the concept that the

115
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

sponge perceiving itself by itself and this is all the game of self-
awareness but the awareness is something only for the living
creatures. This may seem almost impossible that the universe is
self aware but that may come across some possibility. We might
assume that awareness is not something that only living creatures
do and possess. Infact, there might be not such thing called living
creature because we might be mis-interpreting it to be the truth.
It can be a fiction because there might be not such thing, and we
may also not be such a thing to be called as living creature and
this can be our own self made truth in our own perceptual reality.
Then the other question arises that is how is it possible that the
awareness may even exist without the presence of the living
creature since it is a concept and phenomenon derived by the
perceptions of the living beings and humans? This question can be
countered by asking another question that how is it possible that
the awareness may even exist with the presence of the living
creature?
No matter, how we try to explain this, the awareness is a very
mysterious and weird thing and that is precisely what science is
not capable of explaining. The scientists and philosophers have
been trying hard to explain what awareness is for thousands of
years and they were quite un-successful at it, especially from the
western tradition and that is because the awareness is not a thing
and it can not be explained because it is a lot mystical. We could
never explain it because it’s the most fundamental thing ever and
we can not get more fundamental than the awareness. Awareness
is not the property of the biological creatures and it’s not like that

116
Muhammad Haseem Ajaz

the rocks are not aware and then the day when the matter
evolves and one day any certain creature becomes aware. No, it’s
actually not like that. Awareness is actually a “Thing” practically
speaking the awareness doesn’t even exist. Awareness is the pure
“Nothing”, it’s a pure vacuum. Awareness is that where the
perception is suspended and perception is not a thing such that
nobody has the awarensss and no brain produces the awarenss.
The awareness is a name for nothingness. And if we do consider
the presence of the awareness then it’s already a mistake because
usually when we consider of it as something real then we think of
a specific field, but in reality it’s not like that rather its nothing. Let
us imagine that there is an alternative universe where the
awareness doesn’t exist. In this universe, there are no living
sentient creatures, there are no internal worlds, and there are no
feelings and perceptions. All there is just the facts, you might
think of objects such as a ball or something floating out in the
middle of the universe but there is nobody to perceive these
things. So, the collection of everything in that universe is also the
universe. The collection of all the facts of that universe is what we
call the truth. This ithe ultimate and absolute “Truth” and we
imagine this as reality. Whether anybody is looking at it or not, it’s
just there as a Truth and it will remain there. We might think of it
as a database with a bunch of entries. This thought might come in
our mind that this can be very boring since there is no love, no
emotions and thoughts, nothing interesting and we cant even
have living creature. So, this is kind of deep and dry universe with
everything in it yet nothing. So, basically what we are referring to

117
Hoax Sociology & Its Philosophy

is our present universe in which we are present. That is exactly

what is happening this moment. Our entire universe consists of
only one thing with the raw truth and raw data. All these shapes,
sounds, colors and everything else is just the pure data in raw
form happening to nobody, perceived by nobody and with no
awareness. That is the truth but if that is possibly the truth then
how come we perceive it? That claim of perceiving is actually
wrong because we do not perceive it and it can not be perceived.
Another question arises is that how come the truth claims to be
awared and conscious? The answer to this question is that this is
what this is; it’s the ultimate “Truth” and this can not be changed
whatsoever. By virtue of this truth, this is self-apparent or self-
awared. But now if we see that we are going into the paradoxical
territory and language seems to break down as I am starting to
explain about this, this is precisely because non-duality can not be
talked about with language and it can not be put into analogy,
metaphors and concepts. So, we are trying the best to understand
about all this within our limited areas of expertise and limited
barriers of language. But in actual we need to go beyond that to
master something which we need to grasp. I am actually not
talking about the beliefs, ideas, philosophy and concepts; I am
asking to look at the hand, and everything around which is the
pure truth, that is the only thing which was ever present
anywhere. There might be one single objection that people might
have on this topic that how do we explain that the brain affects
the perception? So if our brain is damaged then we wont be able
to see the colors properly, maybe we lose the color sense and we

start seeing the things in only black and white.

Firstly, if we understand that the brain is itself a perception and
that is very important to understand. The mistake that
philosophers and the neuroscientists in the west have always
assumed that the brain is something other than the perception
and something more fundamental and something more prior to
perceptions and that is not the actual case. What we are doing is
that we are putting the brains on the similar level as all of the
perceptions that we attribute to the brain such that the brain is
itself one of the perception. So when we do that then the brain
ceases to be having that same type of explainatory power that it
used to have. We will no longer be able to use the concept of
brain to metaphysically ground the rest of the reality and
perception but its still nevertheless true that the brain although
it’s a perception, it’s a rather special perception that tends to
have a special effect on all other perceptions if it’s changed in a
certain way so for example you could take a medicine and that
will change all of your perceptions, and now ofcourse the
medicine is itself a perception. So, what is all happening is that we
are taking the pill which is a perception, then it’s going through
the blood which is a perception and afterwards those chemicals
go to our brain which is perception too. So, what we have here is
that how the all universe works? Is it just a collection of fields of
perceptions, interacting with themselves in various ways, in some
of the times the perception can have local effects and sometimes
the interaction between two perceptions can have the global
effect which is what would happen if our brain was damaged per

say, and ofcourse how do we damage the brain, we take the

perception on a hammer and we hit the back of the skull which is
also a perception and so the perception effects the perception
and vice versa. We are really talking about the “Being” and so we
have “Being” which is interacting with other “Beings”. This cycle
of “Being” affecting the “Being” goes on as it is. And this is really
not different from the way that we think how molecules interact?
How is it possible that the molecules hit the other molecules and
cause some type of effect, it’s not much different than the
perception. This one unified field of consciousness is self-
interactive. It’s not static like sponge but it continues on changing
and all of the super-complicated stuff happens all the time and
the bubbles are not stopping rather they are all the time being
demolished or re-built. This process happens within a few instants
but seems to be eighty or ninety years which is the approximate
age duration of people. But everything is just like that one point
on the radar screen of the sponge made reality. It is what it is. It’s
never going to be created or destroyed and will never stop either
and go beyond the infinity. It can rather create a lot of emotions,
it can create feelings, it can make love, it can trick itself into things
that it’s a “Self” and that have a life and all of this. This is
everything. So, at the conclusion what is perception? It is actually
the “Being” or the “Absolute Truth” but most of the people mis-
interpret it because they have the sense of “Self” and so their
sense of self co-opts the “Absolute Being” and mistakes it for the
Self and for my perceptions. And mistakes itself as being the
sentient creature but these sentient creatures are not real. They

are just the illusion like the negative sculptures in the one unified
field. The last and final question which will arise in minds of all of
us is that how we even know about all this?
This may seem like a science-fiction but its not in actuall a science
fiction because its possible for us to realize that what is around us
and we can even perform the exercises to feel what is around us
and how it all works. Its all around us and we actually need is an
actual method and we need to properly interpret all this which
mostly means shutting down the mind and radical reasoning and
becoming very much attentive at the present moment with a very
focused point in mind and doing that after and after.
We can actually not make it happen at time we want but it will be
happening on its own but something which we can do is to sort of
make it click is to sit and focus on that actuality and start
meditating. There are several techniques that can actually help us
in this path. What makes this work so much challenging is that it
takes too much of our time and it’s emotionally difficult since we
are intimately involved with this inquiry. It’s not like when we sit
and just focus but our entire emotional system is attached with it.
We as humans are not all powerful because we can not be the
type of person we want to be and this is something that requires
too much of our efforts to do what we want and we are not. All
the deep emotions, sufferings and problems are deeply connected
to this inquiry which is why this inquiry is so much life-changing. If
we will go from this entire process, it’s going to change our whole
life. Every corner of our personality will be transformed because
we are talking about transforming the entire perceptual system.

The doors to perception will be cleansed and we will be left with

the infinite and we will realize that we are the entire reality. We
are not just an object in the universe but we are the reality of the
universe. But to realize this reality is very much difficult because it
might sound like a nice truth but to get there we will have to get
rid of all our fears. We must surrender our arrogance, our
judgement and open our mind very radically and lay down our
entire life as a self and as an ego to eventually breakthrough and
have this awakening and then we will have the bliss. So, the end
result of cleansing the doors of your perception is the most
amazing joy that you can ever imagine but the process of
cleansing the doors of your perception is some of the greatest
struggle that we can possibly imagine so that’s why very few
people do it. And we may do it only when we have a true
motivation and purpose to do it. We will never regret doing it and
we will never know what we have missed unless we do it and
what we will miss will be the greatest thing ever and so great that
it might be difficult to put in words. A very few people among
thousands and millions will have a meta-physical joy in their life to
experience what I’ve discussed so far.
