Two students, ALEX and EMMA, passionately argue about whether math is invented or
discovered.
ALEX I'm telling you, math is totally invented! Humans created it to make sense of the
world.
EMMA No way, Alex! Math is a universal language that's always been there, waiting to
be discovered. It's like uncovering the secrets of the universe.
Suddenly, they notice an old and mysterious book on the dusty shelf. Intrigued, they
open it together.
A blinding splash of light emanates from the book, and Alex and Emma find themselves
transported to a magical world filled with floating equations and mathematical symbols.
PYTHAGORAS Indeed. You are about to embark on a journey through the stories of
mathematicians who pondered the same question: is math invented or discovered?
Alex and Emma find themselves in an ancient Greek academy where the mathematician
EUCLID passionately explains his geometric discoveries.
EUCLID I believe I've discovered eternal truths, principles that have always existed in the
fabric of the universe.
EMMA (whispering to Alex) See, even Euclid thinks it's discovered!
They transition to the Renaissance era, where RENE DESCARTES passionately argues that
math is invented.
DESCARTES Cogito, ergo sum. I think, therefore I am. Math is a creation of the human
mind, a tool for understanding the world.
As they delve deeper into the book, they encounter stories of great mathematicians like
NEWTON, LEIBNIZ, and more, each with their unique perspective on the nature of
mathematics.
In the grand library of the book world, Alex and Emma find themselves surrounded by
books floating in mid-air. The air is filled with mathematical formulas and the soft
murmurs of mathematicians debating.
EMMA It seems like the answer is not black and white. Each mathematician had a
different viewpoint.
ALEX Maybe it's both. Math is discovered through exploration, but it's also invented as
we find new ways to express and understand it.
The magical world begins to fade, and Alex and Emma find themselves back in their
classroom, the mysterious book in their hands.
EMMA (to Alex) I guess we'll never settle this debate, but at least we got to explore the
incredible history of math together.
As they close the book, a sense of wonder lingers, leaving them with a newfound
appreciation for the beauty and complexity of mathematics.
FADE OUT.
