Learning Competencies & code Concept/Short Input: Judge the relevance and worth of ideas,
soundness of author’s reasoning and effectiveness of the presentation (EN9RC-IVF-2.22)

Whenever a writer is trying to share his opinion, it is important that they present facts that will
support their ideas and beliefs. Readers will only value this opinion if an evidence will be provided in a
logical and clear order. When you are using evidence to support your ideas, it is important to make sure
that all the facts can be justified. The following are the content of an author’s reason in a selection:

Games and equipment from home should not be allowed on school grounds. Oftentimes,
students feel that they shouldn’t have to share items they’ve brought from home, which can result in
jealousy or fighting. In addition, many students haven’t been taught safety rules with certain types of
equipment, which can result in hurting others. Also, some items, such as board games, can take a lot
of time to set and tidy up. This lessens the time for them to have recess.

Teenage mothers face critical health risk including inadequate nutrition during pregnancy due to
poor eating habits, dangers associated with the reproductive organs not ready for birth and
maternal death due to a higher risk of eclampsia. Alarmingly, while maternal deaths are

teenagers died last year according to the Philippine Statistics Agency. Data from World Health

Activity No. 5
Analyze the transcribed speech of Jack Symonds, titled "Social Media Corrupts Human
Interaction," and complete the diagram.

I'd now like to continue my argument by first discussing the impact that social media is having on us
at individual level, because if we can agree that social media is affecting us as individuals and
changing the way that we behave, it follows that social media is affecting the way we interact with
each other. Research from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine studied over 1.700
people between the ages of 10 and 32. It was found that on average, participants were spending 61
minutes per day on social media and visiting social media website over 30 minutes per week. This
research was conducted 2014 and the number have been growing steadily since that time. Over one
quarter of the young people surveyed displayed indicators of high levels of depression and the
people who most frequently check social media were found to be 2.7 times more likely develop
depression than the average.

4. The pieces of evidence from the speech of Jack Symond supported his claim, for they both talked about the impact of
social media on an individual at a certain age. The evidences even presented the common effect of social media on
individuals regardless of age. Still, the second evidence presented what could be the effect of it on those who are younger and
those who are more frequently using social media.
