Tutorial-3
Tutorial on Electric Flux Density, Gauss’s Law and Divergence

Note: In assignment EN= last two digits of students’ Enrolment Number.

Example: If ID Number is 12202050501002, Consider EN=02.

1) Point charge of (30+EN) nC is located at origin, while plane y = 4 carries a

charge (12+EN) nC/m2. Find electric flux intensity at (0,-4,3).

2) Determine electric flux density D at (4,0,3) if there is a point charge –5 μC at

(EN,0,0) and a line charge 3 mC/m along the y-axis.

3) Given A = 2xyax + zay + yz2az. Find •A at P(EN,-1,3).

4) Calculate the divergence of G at P(2,-3, EN) if

(a) G = xax + yay + z az
(b) G = x2y3ax + 2y2ay + 3yz3az

5) In a field E = -50yax – 50xay + 30az V/m, calculate the differential amount of

work done in moving EN µC charge a distance 5µm from A(1,2,3) to B(2,4,1).

6) If E = 2xax -2yay V/m, find the work done in moving a point charge of EN C from
(2,0,0) to (0,0,0) to (0,2,0).

7) Three point charges – 4 µC, 5 µC and EN µC are located at (2,-1,3), (0,4,-2) and
(0,0,0) respectively. Find the potential at a point P(-1,5,2) assuming zero
potential at infinity.
