ANAXIMENES BACKGROUND

 Anaximenes was born around 586/585 BC in Miletus, which is located in

present-day Turkey.

 The surviving sources suggest that Anaximenes flourished in the mid-6th

century BC and died around 528 BC. The exact cause or circumstances of
his death are not recorded in historical texts.

 Anaximenes is known for his cosmological theory that air is the fundamental
substance from which all things are derived. He believed that air could be
condensed and rarefied to form different substances and that changes in the
density of air were responsible for the creation and destruction of the world.
His theory differed from Thales, who believed that water was the basic
building block of all matter, and Anaximander, who called the essential
substance "the boundless”.
ANAXIMENES POV:

I Anaximenes believed that the air was the fundamental substance that could
transform into more dense or rarefied forms.

I developed a cosmological theory stating that the universe originated from dense
air and transformed through condensation and rarefaction.

I also viewed the universe as constantly changing and sought naturalistic

explanations for phenomena, shifting away from supernatural beliefs.

I saw atmosphere and air as Divine, and human air as soul that animates a person.
Spread out, Invisible, Infinite air was condensed to wind and formed clouds which
condensed further to reduce mist rain and other forms of precipitation.

 DIVINE
 The divine refers to a higher power or deity, representing
godlike qualities beyond the ordinary human realm. It is sacred,
awe-inspiring, and associated with supreme power and wisdom.

 HUMAN AIR AS SOUL

 In this sense, the concept of "human air as soul" suggests that
the soul, which was considered the essence of a person's being,
was connected to the fundamental substance of air.

I used my theory to make a scheme that explains the origins and nature of earth
and celestial bodies after I conclude that everything in the world was made of air.

 CELESTIAL BODY
 Celestial bodies are natural objects in space, including stars,
planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and galaxies. They provide
valuable insights into the universe and are studied using
telescopes and other instruments.
 AIR
 Air is the invisible mixture of gases that surrounds the Earth,
consisting mainly of nitrogen and oxygen. It supports life,
influences weather, and plays a crucial role in natural processes.

I used air to feel that earth is flat. I can describe this as a table- like and behaving
like a leaf floating in the air.

I describe air as Pneuma.

My ideas influenced subsequent philosophers and scientists, inspiring thinkers like

Heraclitus and contributing to the development of scientific inquiry in ancient
Greece.

Just as our soul, being air, constrains us, so breath and air envelops the whole
cosmos.
DISCOVERY OF ANAXIMENES

The discovery of Anaximenes and his philosophical ideas is not a matter of

archaeological or historical discovery in the traditional sense. Anaximenes, along
with Thales and Anaximander, is considered one of the three thinkers of the
Milesian School of philosophy from Miletus, an ancient Greek city in Anatolia
(modern-day Turkey).

The knowledge about Anaximenes and his ideas primarily comes from the works
of later ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle and Theophrastus, who
preserved and documented the teachings and theories of earlier philosophers.
These sources provide insights into Anaximenes' cosmological theory that air is the
fundamental substance from which all things are derived.

While there may not be a specific "discovery" of Anaximenes in the traditional

sense, his ideas and contributions to philosophy have been studied and analyzed by
scholars throughout history. His views on the nature of the universe continue to be
influential and are still cited by modern-day scientists.
