1 Overview
The RRU5508 is an outdoor remote radio unit that is powered by a power cabinet. It is the RF
part of a distributed base station and can be installed near the antenna. The RRU5508
performs modulation, demodulation, data processing, and combination and division of
baseband signals and RF signals.
With the software-defined radio (SDR) technology, the RRU5508 can work in multiple modes
through software configuration.
The RRU5508 adopts a 2T4R design.
1.1 Appearance
Figure 1-1 shows the appearance of the RRU5508.
From SRAN13.1 onwards, the RRU5508 (700 MHz+900 MHz) can work in NB-IoT mode.
The RRU5508 (700 MHz+900 MHz) specifications released in this version are a draft.
From SRAN13.1 onwards, the RRU5508 (700 MHz+850 MHz) can work in NB-IoT mode.
The RRU5508 (700 MHz+850 MHz) specifications released in this version are a draft.
2 Technical Specifications
The RRU5508 (1800 MHz+2100 MHz) can work on the 1800 MHz or 2100 MHz frequency band or
both at the same time.
The RRU5508 (700 MHz+900 MHz) can work on the 700 MHz or 900 MHz frequency band or both
at the same time.
The RRU5508 (700 MHz+850 MHz) can work on the 700 MHz or 850 MHz frequency band or both
at the same time.
In the following sections, when the RRU5508 works on two frequency bands at the same time, A+B
is used to indicate the bands, for example, 700 MHz+900 MHz.

The GSM receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 51.021, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 13 kbit/s and the bit error rate (BER) is lower than
or equal to 2%.
The UMTS receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 25.104, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 12.2 kbit/s and the BER is lower than or equal to
0.1%.
The LTE FDD receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 5 MHz
bandwidth based on the FRC A1-3 in Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 25 RBs) standard.
The LTE NB-IoT receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 200
KHz bandwidth and a 15 KHz subcarrier spacing based on the FRC A14-1 in Annex A.14 (π/2
BPSK, R = 1/3, 1 RB) standard.
Power sharing requires the DTX and power control functions. In GBSS8.1, the dynamic power
sharing feature is mutually exclusive with the GBFD-113201 Concentric Cell, GBFD-114501
Co-BCCH Cell, GBFD-118001 BCCH Dense Frequency Multiplexing, and GBFD-117501
Enhanced Measurement Report (EMR) features. In GBSS9.0 and later versions, the dynamic
power sharing feature can be used together with these features. However, the dynamic power
sharing feature currently cannot be used together with the GBFD-117002 IBCA (Interference
Based Channel Allocation), GBFD-117001 Flex MAIO, GBFD-118701 RAN Sharing, and
GBFD-114001 Extended Cell features in GBSS8.1, GBSS9.0, and later versions.
On each channel of the RRU5508 (1800 MHz+2100 MHz), a maximum of eight carriers can be
received and a maximum of six carriers can be transmitted.

The typical power consumption of an RRU is measured when the ambient temperature is 25°C and the
RRU is 50% loaded. The actual power consumption has a 10% deviation from this value.
Item Specifications
Input power –48 V DC; voltage range: –36 V DC to –57
V DC
DC RRUs can use external power modules (such as AC/DC power modules, OPM15M, and OPM50M)
to support AC scenarios. For details about the external power modules, see user guides of the
corresponding models.

According to the installation scenario, traffic load, and carrier configuration, the output power of an
RRU temporarily decreases when the RRU reaches a temperature 10°C less than its maximum operating
temperature.
