Midterm Exam 1 Review – MATH 215 (Fall 2018)

(1) Find the distance between points P1 (1, 1, 1) and P2 (2, 5, 0).

(2) Find the equation of the sphere whose center is (1, 2, 3) and radius is 12.

(3) What points P (x, y, z) satisfy the equation

(8) Find the work done by a force F = 5i (magnitude 5 N) in moving an object along the line from the
origin to the point (1, 1) (distance in meters).

(9) Find two unit vectors orthogonal to both h3, 2, 1i and h−1, 1, 0i.

(10) Find a vector perpendicular to the plane of P (1, −1, 0), Q(2, 1, −1) and R(−1, 1, 2).

(11) Find the volume of the parallelepiped with adjacent edges P Q, P R, and P S, where P (3, 0, 1), Q =

(12) Find the parametric equation of the line through (2, 3, 0) perpendicular to the vectors u = i + 2j + 3k
