The writing component should be completed during ALS seminar time in

week 5 of your second semester. The upload folder will be available from
Mon 28th Oct – Friday Nov 1st 2024.
Submission
The Speaking component must be given during your ALS seminar in week
Time and Date:

Nov 4th – 22nd 2024

Writing Component - 300 words (+/- 10%)

Speaking Component - 4 minutes
Successful completion of these tasks constitutes two of the three essential
Weighting
components to pass this module. Attendance is the third.
Assessments must be submitted electronically via Turnitin by the given
deadline. You will find Turnitin links on the module’s Blackboard site in the
Submission of “Assessment” folder.
Assessment
It is your responsibility to ensure that your assignment arrives before the
submission deadline stated above.

Instructions

Written Component
Choose a business topic of interest to you. Identify a point of controversy,
disagreement or an ongoing issue in that area. Outline the issue, state your
position and justify it.

You must include at least three appropriate academic sources. These should be
cited and referenced in accordance with the APA 7th edition.

Speaking Component
Design and deliver a four-minute academic presentation, supported by
PowerPoint slides, on a business topic of your choice. This should be the same
topic as your written component on this module.
Grading
If your submission reaches the minimum requirement, your grade will be “1”
(pass). If you do not meet the minimum standard you will be marked “0” (fail).
You should read the feedback from your tutor more detail on the strengths and
weaknesses of your submission. If you do not meet the minimum requirement on
your first attempt you will be given a second opportunity to submit. This will be
within the second semester. There are no further resit opportunities after this
point.

Similarity and Other Modules

Your response to the written component, will be checked against the Turnitin
paper repository. If it is found to contain significant amounts of content found in
other sources, you will be asked to resubmit. This also applies to work you have
previously submitted on this or other modules

Please do not choose the same topic as you are considering for your research
Synopsis (BM9718) as this submission will be added to the student repository and
so will show up in as copied material when your BM9718 submission is checked.

Your presentations should not re-use PowerPoint slides you have used on other
modules and you will not be able to re-use these slides on other modules.

This module is designed to assess your academic language skills. Please do not
use any generative AI support or translation software when completing this
assessment. If you are suspected of using these tools, you will be asked to explain
your process for completing the assessment. Keeping a copy of you reading notes
and drafts of your response is a good way to do this.
