INSTALLATION GUIDE

Start the installation and follow the instructions. After the installation starts, select the needed
software components and follow the instructions to complete the installation.

PCM600 requires Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express edition. The correct SQL Server instance will
be installed automatically. If the correct SQL Server instance is already installed, PCM600 installation
will skip this step.

PCM600 installs .NET 4.8 if required. The .NET Framework might require a reboot.

Installation requires administrator rights. In all versions of Windows, it might be necessary to switch
off or configure antivirus software to not block the installation and operation of PCM600 (e.g. McAfee
Host Intrusion Prevention).

PCM600 is not supported on domain controllers.

1.6 Uninstalling GUID-C609AB02-CC17-4E73-BCC2-E6D0CDADE53F v2

PCM600 can be uninstalled from Apps and Features (Programs and Features). The name is
“HITACHI Protection and Control IED Manager PCM600”. Some included programs and runtimes
can only be uninstalled separately (they could be used by other programs). Examples are HITACHI
IED Connectivity Packages, Wavewin HITACHI and HITACHI PCMSERVER2019 SQL Instance.

1.7 Prerequisites for using PCM600 Ver. 3.0 GUID-5904719C-8E20-4210-9FEE-0384289BEBB3 v2

To operate with PCM600, there must be at least one IED Connectivity Package installed and
selected to be used with PCM600 Ver. 3.0.

1.8 License GUID-2A8F802E-5539-4600-8B97-30FE3F0F1922 v2

There is no license required for PCM600 Ver. 3.0.

1.9 Previous versions of PCM600 GUID-D8F8F88B-9C02-4FD6-84FE-346CA41384B6 v2

PCM600 3.0 can be installed in parallel with a previous version. If you only want to use PCM600 3.0,
you should uninstall previous versions of PCM600 before installing PCM600 3.0. It is recommended
to install PCM600 versions in ascending order.

When opening projects in PCM600 3.0 that have been created with previous versions of PCM600,
the projects will be converted automatically. After project conversion, the projects can't be opened
with older PCM600 versions anymore.

To migrate IED 670 configuration from PCM600 Ver. 1.5 to 3.0 (the whole PCM600 project including
all IEDs in the project), please refer to the document “1MRG002586 - Configuration Migration for 670
series in PCM600 User Manual", that can be found on the 670 series ConnPack DVD/USB.

1.10 SQL Server access rights GUID-3F4D27B5-C34B-44B3-B010-8230A8D63D48 v2

In PCM600 2.8 and later versions, data security has been enhanced, and for that reason every
Windows user using PCM600 must be given privileges to PCM600 project data. These privileges are
given by adding the Windows user to the new “HPCMSERVER Users” local user group.

INSTALLATION GUIDE

During installation, the user logged in is automatically added to “HPCMSERVER Users” group. If
additional users are required, they must be added to the user group manually. This can be done by
using lusrmgr.msc (“Local Users and Groups (Local)”). This function provides a possibility to add
both local and network user accounts to HPCMSERVER Users Group.

In some cases, the user needs to logout and login again for all functionality to be available to
PCM600 due to the user group addition.

1.11 Privileges needed by SQL Server Setup GUID-64849616-59C5-4855-9879-1DD9FC126D64 v1

Microsoft SQL Server Setup needs following user rights during installation (see table below). These
user rights must be turned on for the user account running the setup during installation.

Local Policy Object User Right

Backup files and directories SeBackupPrivilege
Debug Programs SeDebugPrivilege
Manage auditing and security log SeSecurityPrivilege

If these user rights are disabled by your system administrator, please contact your system
administrator to enable the user rights during installation. A separate user account with these rights
enabled can also be used during installation. If needed, these user rights can be turned off again
after installation.

1.12 SQL Server 2019 Express GUID-B2CEA57B-7390-4A5A-A304-323812607A46 v2

PCM600 3.0 uses Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express. This instance is separate from and doesn’t
interfere with the SQL instance in older versions of PCM600 that use older versions of SQL Server.
The instances can co-exist. It is however strongly recommended to install older SQL Server versions
before newer ones.

PCM600 version SQL Server version

2.1 - 2.7 2008 Express
2.8 - 2.10 2014 Express
2.11 2019 Express
3.0 2019 Express

1.13 SQL Server 2016 GUID-1572FE1B-25CF-4E9A-BD7F-FA395D0E79F2 v2

PCM600 is not compatible with SQL Server 2016. SQL instances should not be upgraded to a not
supported SQL version.

1.14 Disk compression not supported GUID-C9A579B3-6988-4B33-8BDE-EE3511B36E41 v2

SQL server doesn’t support having its data on a compressed disk. PCM600 SQL data directories are
by default located in a subdirectory of C:\ProgramData\HITACHI, which is determined by an
environment variable HITACHIPCMDATADIR set by the PCM600 installation.

1.15 SQL Server 2019 potential issue with UTF-8 GUID-91B1441C-EE5F-4A60-B24A-8DB3841A8150 v2

In Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019 it is advisable to not enable ‘Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for
worldwide language support’ in ‘Region’ setting.

If this setting is enabled by your system administrator, please contact system administrator to disable
this setting for a successful installation of PCM600 3.0.

This UTF-8 setting is available in [Region] -> [Administrative] tab -> [Region setting] page. See
picture below.

If this setting is enabled, installation of SQL Server Service Packs might fail.

Before starting the PCM600 installation, ensure that any SQL Server Windows updates
have been installed. If SQL Server updates are being installed, wait until they are
installed, reboot the computer if required, and then start PCM600 installation.

Please reboot the computer after every installation or uninstallation of SQL Server.

1.16 Distributed setup GUID-37804B05-EB6B-494F-BA08-8181B73B6E1D v2

PCM600 3.0 supports having SQL Server and PCM600 installed on different machines. It allows
using PCM600 projects from multiple PCs, but multiple machines can’t open same project at same
time. Using distributed setup has effect on performance because SQL Server is accessed over the
network.

To make a distributed installation select “Options” in PCM600 installation wizard. First PCM600
should be installed on server machine using option “Install only SQL Server”.

After server installation you need to share folder defined by “HITACHIPCMDATADIR” system
environment variable. If you have installed PCM600 without specifying the path manually from
command line, it is “[drive]:\ProgramData\HITACHI\HPCMDatabases\" by default.

Share this folder with full privileges for Windows user group “HPCMSERVER Users” on server
machine. Use the name “HPCMDatabases” for the shared folder. Each Windows user using PCM600
must be added to “HPCMSERVER Users” group, refer to PCM600 Cyber Security Deployment
Guideline.

The name of the distributed PCM600 server should be according to the below guidelines:

• The first character in the instance name must be a letter or an underscore.

• Subsequent characters can be alphabets, decimals, dollar signs ($), or underscore (_).
• Embedded spaces or other special characters are not allowed in instance names.

The default port used by the distributed PCM600 is 1436. If it is occupied, then select the
next available port, for example, 1437.

INSTALLATION GUIDE

Then PCM600 can be installed on client machine. Select “Options” and “Install only PCM600” in the
PCM600 installer. Give the IP address or computer name of the server machine. It is assumed that
the shared folder on server is named “HPCMDatabases”.

If shared folder name is something else than “HPCMDatabases”, you need to edit the System
Environment variable HITACHIPCMDATADIR on the client and set the correct path to the server
folder. Note that the path must be given as UNC path ("e.g.\\server\HPCMDatabases\") when using
distributed setup.

In order to use the Scheduler service on PCM600, the logon account for the service must be same
as the intended Windows account for running PCM600. The service logon account can be configured
in Services.msc, HITACHIPCMSchedulerService_v30 on the Log On tab.

To avoid time synchronization related problems, please make sure that all PCM600 machines have
same system time.

1.17 Unattended installation GUID-740F907F-FF73-434A-8DBF-7DF9ED62561B v2

PCM600 3.0 can be installed silently from command line by appending the /quiet parameter to the
installation package. If installation is done centrally, users of the PCM600 application must be added
to the local group “HPCMSERVER Users” after installation.

1.18 LON Support GUID-C289C42C-74A7-410E-B8AD-E1090F6B9C19 v2

PCM600 2.10 and earlier versions use PCLTA cards from Echelon (now Dialog Semiconductor) for
communicating to LON IEDs via compatible drivers. However, there are no 64-bit compatible PCLTA
drivers available. PCM600 3.0 supports only 64-bit operating systems due to Microsoft SQL Server
2019 requirements.

Due to the lack of compatible drivers PCM600 3.0 cannot support existing LON IEDs using PCLTA
cards. However, Customers using PCM600 2.10 or older product versions can continue to use LON
IEDs if the PCM600 product is being used from a supported 32-bit Windows OS with compatible
PCLTA drivers.
