We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing to express our sincere interest in participating
in the UCG Training Camp and to formally request your approval and support for our proposed
workshop topic: “Improving instructional planning by integrating cultural and inclusive
teaching strategies”, which aims to explore how to integrate cultural and inclusive teaching
strategies into instructional planning for Speaking. This workshop intends to provide language
educators with practical tools and strategies to: understand the benefits of inclusive teaching, adapt
instructional materials according to students’ diverse needs, design engaging activities that
promote cultural diversity, and assess students’ learning in a culturally responsive way.

Description of the Proposal

This workshop is designed to strengthen English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers’ training
with the necessary skills to incorporate cultural elements to their speaking classes, and consider
an inclusive approach in their lesson plans. “EFL teachers must change the traditional ways in
which they teach and take out the pre-establish methods known as “good” to create new ways of
teaching that supply the needs of each type of learner” (Cruz et al., 2023, p.5).

Through an online Zoom session, the workshop initially sets the stage for the importance of these
strategies in ESL teaching. Subsequently, a theoretical explanation will be provided, followed
by a strategy training session that through examples will deepen into the incorporation of cultural
elements and inclusive speaking activities in lesson planning.
The core of the workshop is the practical application, where participants will be sorted in groups
to improve a poorly designed short lesson plan that integrates the learned contents. This
experience allows participants to apply their learning in a practical context, who will be guided
to incorporate culturally relevant activities to be understood by diverse learners.
The workshop ends with a feedback session and a Q&A, providing participants the opportunity
to share their lesson plans, receive feedback, reflect on their learning, and clarify any doubts.
This workshop aims for an engaging and comprehensive experience for all the attendees.
