Family Cactaceae

A cactus (plural: cacti) is any member of the plant family Cactaceae, native to
the Americas. They are often used as ornamental plants, but some are also crop
plants. Cacti are grown for protection of property from wild animals, as well as many
other uses. Cacti are part of the plant order Caryophyllales, which also include
members like beets, gypsophila, spinach, amaranth, tumbleweeds, carnations,
rhubarb, buckwheat, plumbago, bougainvillea, chickweed and knotgrass.
Cacti are unusual and distinctive plants, which are adapted to extremely arid
and hot environments, showing a wide range of anatomical and physiological
features which conserve water. Their stems have adapted to become photosynthetic
and succulent, while the leaves have become the spines for which cacti are well
known.
Cacti come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. The tallest is Pachycereus
pringlei, with a maximum recorded height of 19.2 m, and the smallest is Blossfeldia
liliputiana, only about 1 cm in diameter at maturity. Cactus flowers are large, and like

moths and bats. Cacti range in size from small and globular to tall and columnar.

Elephant Friends

Alone elephant wandered the forest looking for friends. She came across a monkey
and asked, “Will you be my friend, monkey?” “You are too big and cannot swing on
trees as I do. So I cannot be your friend,” said the monkey.
The elephant then came across a rabbit and asked him if she could be his friend.
“You are too big to fit inside my burrow. You cannot be my friend,” replied the rabbit.
Then the elephant met a frog and asked if she could be her friend. The frog said
“You are too big and heavy. You cannot jump like me. I am sorry, but you cannot be
my friend,”
The elephant asked a fox, and she got the same reply, that she was too big. The
next day, all the animals in the forest were running in fear. The elephant stopped a
bear and asked what was happening and was told that a tiger has been attacking all
the animals.
The elephant wanted to save the other weak animals and went to the tiger and said
“Please sir, leave my friends alone. Do not eat them.” The tiger didn’t listen and
asked the elephant to mind her own business. Seeing no other way to solve the
problem, the elephant kicked the tiger and scared it away.
She then went back to the others and told them what happened. On hearing how the
elephant saved their lives, the animals agreed in unison, “You are just the right size
to be our friend.”

Snakes have two legs but a long time ago they had claws to help them slither
along. Snakes are not slimy. They are covered in scales which are just bumps on the
skin. Their skin is hard and glossy to reduce friction as the snake slither along the

Most snakes live in the country. Some types of snakes live in trees, some live in
water, but most diet usually consists of frogs, lizards, and mice and other snakes.
The Anaconda can eat small crocodile and even wild boards.
Many snakes protect themselves with their fangs. Boa Constrictors can give you
a bear hug which is so powerful it can crush every single bone in your body. Some
snakes are protected by scaring their enemies away like The Cobra. The flying
