Lesson Plan Title: Prefixes Subject: ELAR Grade: 3rd

• Pens • Start with the video Prefix or Suffix by The Bazillions to introduce the concept
• Paper • Ask students to recall what a Prefix is (then do the same for Suffix)
• Colored pencils • Ask the students to write on the whiteboard/ smartboard prefixes they heard in the
for pictures video (split the board in half and do the same for suffixes)
• Prefix or Suffix • Tell the students about the short story they are going to make using what they

Bazillions • Give each student a blank piece of paper to brainstorm two words that have a
prefix and two words that have a suffix
• Allow students to choose a color of paper to use for the final draft of their story
• ONCE STUDENTS ARE DONE they can add ONE picture that goes along with
their story
• Students will turn in their stories once they are finished
Modifications:
GT
• Have the students write six sentences with three words with prefixes and three
words with suffixes
• They are not allowed to use the six words from the video, they should come up
with six new words
Special Education
• Allow for extra time on the short story assignment
• Do two sentences with one sentence that has a word with a prefix and one
sentence with a word that has a suffix
• Allow for necessary accomidations
