The Problem of Statement
Inadequate levels of engagement and participation among students in physical
education classes have been observed, leading to potential consequences such as reduced
physical fitness, lack of interest in physical activity, and low self-esteem and self-confidence
Key issues:
1. Lack of motivation: Students often lack the motivation to engage in class if they aren't
interested in their learning
2. Repetitive content: When the subject matter being studied is too repetitive or familiar,
students may become disinterested. This can result to boredom and apathy.
3. No relevance to real-world situations : It could be difficult for students to see how
their learning relates to their everyday life if the material does not link to real-world
situations.
4. Lack of autonomy in learning: Most students like knowing they have some control
over their own learning process. This can include setting goals, choosing how to learn,
and evaluating progress.
5. Learning difficulties: Teachers should be able to adapt their teaching style to
accommodate them by providing suitable adjustments and encouraging experiential
learning.
Background and rationale of the problem
Physical education (PE) is an integral part of the educational curriculum, aimed at
promoting physical fitness, health awareness, and overall well-being among students.
Engagement and active participation in physical education classes can improve physical
fitness, motor skills, and mental health. However, in many educational settings, there is a
growing concern about the lack of student engagement and participation in physical
education classes, which can impact their physical fitness levels and overall enjoyment of the
subject.
Several factors contribute to this issue:
1. Lack of Interest: Some students may lack interest in traditional physical activities
offered in PE classes, leading to disengagement.
2. Inadequate Resources: Schools may face limitations in resources, such as equipment
and facilities, which can affect the quality and variety of activities offered in PE.
3. Diverse Interests: Students have diverse interests and abilities, and traditional PE
classes may fail to cater to these varying needs, resulting in disengagement among
certain groups.
4. Social Pressure: Peer pressure, body image issues, and social dynamics within PE
classes can discourage some students from actively participating, affecting overall
engagement levels.
It is essential to address the issue regarding the lack of engagement of students to
ensure that students receive the full benefits of participating in physical activities. By
strengthening students' engagement and participation in physical education, educators can
create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages students to lead active
and healthy lifestyles both in and out of school. This project aims to explore effective
strategies and interventions to enhance student engagement and participation in physical
education, ultimately promoting lifelong physical activity habits and well-being among
students.
The Project Objectives
To ensure and strengthen student engagement, this project aims to:
promote physical fitness among individuals,
increase engagement levels within the learning by providing interactive and enjoyable
fitness activities,
enhance the overall well-being of the learners by focusing on not just physical but
also mental and emotional wellness,
educate learners on various aspects of fitness, nutrition, and overall wellness, and
create sustainable and long-lasting impact on the community.
Project Activities
The following activities are recommended to strengthen student engagement:
Fitness Assessments: Conduct comprehensive fitness assessments for all learners to
determine their current fitness levels and identify areas for improvement. This
assessment will encompass components such as cardiovascular endurance, muscular
strength, flexibility, and body composition.
Personalized Fitness Plans: Develop individualized fitness plans for learners based on
their fitness assessments and specific needs. These plans will include tailored physical
activities, exercises, and goals to improve their overall fitness levels gradually.
Adaptive Physical Education: Implement adaptive physical education programs that
cater to learners with diverse abilities. These programs will incorporate modifications
and accommodations to ensure all learners can participate and benefit from physical
activities.
Skill Development Workshops: Organize workshops to enhance learners' skills in
various physical activities, such as adapted sports, yoga, dance, and strength training.
These workshops will provide opportunities for learners to develop new skills and
discover activities they enjoy.
Integration with Academic Curriculum: Integrate physical activities and fitness-
related topics into the academic curriculum to promote a holistic approach to
education. This integration will help learners understand the importance of fitness and
its impact on their overall well-being and academic performance.
Supportive Learning Environment: Create a supportive and inclusive learning
environment that encourages learners to actively engage in physical activities. This
can be achieved through promoting positive attitudes towards physical fitness,
fostering peer support, and providing resources and facilities that accommodate
learners with diverse abilities.
Variety and Fun Games: Keep the activities varied and engaging to maintain interest
and motivation. Incorporate a mix of different types of exercises, such as cardio,
strength training, yoga, and flexibility exercises. Additionally, include games,
challenges, and team-based activities to make the workouts enjoyable.
Individual Reflection
Frecy Floria
Lack of engagement in physical education curriculum among students is a common
issue that can have various underlying causes. It is important to address this problem by
considering factors such as student interests, teaching methods, and the overall learning
environment. Encouraging active participation, incorporating diverse activities, providing
opportunities for choice and autonomy, and fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere can
help increase student engagement in physical education.
Reflecting on their experiences in PE allows students to assess their progress, set
goals for improvement, and develop a deeper understanding of the importance of physical
activity and overall well-being. By reflecting on their participation, performance, and
learning outcomes, students can enhance their self-awareness, critical thinking skills, and
motivation to stay active and healthy. Additionally, reflection in PE curriculum can help
students develop a lifelong appreciation for physical fitness and cultivate habits that promote
a healthy lifestyle.

This project proposal in teaching physical and health education in elementary grades
effectively addresses the critical issue of student engagement and participation. It identifies
key challenges and provides a comprehensive plan to promote physical fitness, enhance
student engagement, and improve overall well-being. By incorporating personalized fitness
plans, adaptive physical education programs, skill development workshops, and integration
with the academic curriculum, the project aims to create a supportive learning environment
that fosters lifelong physical activity habits and well-being among students.
The problem of inadequate engagement and participation in physical education
classes is a critical issue with far-reaching consequences for students’ overall well-being.
When students are disengaged, it not only affects their physical fitness but also their interest
in maintaining an active lifestyle. Additionally, low participation levels can impact students’
self-esteem and self-confidence, as they may feel excluded or unable to meet expectations in
a physical setting. Addressing this issue is essential to promote holistic development and
ensure that all students have the opportunity to thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.
It emphasizes the importance of physical education (PE) in promoting various aspects of
student well-being, including physical fitness, health awareness, and overall mental health. It
acknowledges the growing concern about the lack of student engagement and participation in
PE classes, attributing it to factors such as lack of interest, inadequate resources, diverse
interests, and social pressures.
Furthermore, it underscores the necessity of addressing these issues to ensure that students
reap the full benefits of participating in physical activities. Strengthening student engagement
and participation in PE not only enhances their immediate physical fitness levels but also
fosters lifelong habits of physical activity and overall well-being.
Overall, the reflection highlights the significance of Physical Education in the educational
curriculum and underscores the importance of creating a positive and supportive learning
environment to encourage students to lead active and healthy lifestyles.

Mikaela Laureano
The core goal of Physical and Health Education is to provide a strong foundation
among students to improve their overall health and well-being. It has always been an
essential component of education in developing 21st century learners. However, there are
still unsolved problems in the curriculum that hinder effective learning. One of the challenges
encountered by teachers in teaching Physical and Health Education is limited student
engagement. This is deeply rooted in the students’ lack of interest. Students are most likely to
feel unmotivated during class when they are not interested in learning. This requires teachers
to develop teaching strategies aligned with their interests and skills to maximize student
engagement.
This project proposal will uncover the root causes and effects of limited student
engagement and provide possible solutions and actions to solve the problem that can hinder
in achieving the learning outcomes. Some solutions include providing social and emotional
support, increasing peer/group activities, implementing self-directed learning, and designing
activities that cater to students’ diverse interests and capabilities. Personalized fitness plans,
skill development workshops, and a supportive learning environment can also contribute
to foster student participation. This project will greatly help not only the students but also the
teachers and stakeholders to improve their instruction and the curriculum as well.
Rogelyn Marquez
Reflecting on the challenges in the problem statement, I recognized the critical role of
students in which they are engaged in physical education classes for well-being, and issues
like repetitive content, lack of interest, and social pressures that where students are affected
by fitness levels and their enjoyment of that subject and understanding and recognizing the
importance of physical education for health awareness and wellness, it's vital to address and
overcome existing obstacles.
By reflecting on these goals and activities, a holistic approach to fitness education can
be created. and by conducting a personalized fitness assessment, I can tailor plans to each
individual to support their needs and ensure everyone can improve. development of an
adaptive physical education program we must pay attention to and recognize and accept the
different abilities of an inclusiveness
An integration through fitness with the academic curriculum emphasizes the
importance, of caring for each individual is establishing a supportive environment well
through learning it develops confidence through motivation, and the integration of different
things is fun to watch and ensures that everyone's interest and enjoyment continue. In
general, these activities are aligned with my goal these activities support my overarching aim
of nurturing holistic well-being and cultivating a sustained dedication to physical fitness.

Strengthening Student Engagement and Participation in Physical Education is very
important for the students because it nurtures one's own development and self-confidence and
encourages lifelong physical activity and healthy lifestyles. By engaging and interactive
activities, students not only improve their physical health but also develop social skills, such
as communication and cooperation.
One strategy that stands out to me is the incorporation of a diverse range of activities.
By offering a variety of sports, exercises, and recreational activities, physical education
teachers can cater to the diverse interests and abilities of students. This not only increases
engagement but also gives students the chance to become acquainted with various physical
activities and maybe find an interest.
Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment is another crucial aspect of
strengthening student engagement in physical education. When students feel valued and
supported, they are more likely to actively participate and give their best effort. Teachers can
achieve this by focusing on the process rather than the outcome, providing constructive
feedback, and recognizing each student's growth regardless of ability level.
I recognize that there are challenges to overcome in promoting student engagement
and participation. Limited resources, time constraints, and student disinterest can hinder the
effectiveness of physical education activities. To address these challenges, collaboration
between the community, parents, and schools is crucial to addressing these issues.
Francia Claire Nojadera

critical role of student engagement in physical education classes for their overall well-being.
Issues like waning interest, repetitive content, and social pressures directly affect students'
fitness levels and enjoyment of the subject. Understanding the significance of physical
education in fostering health awareness and overall wellness, it's essential to tackle these
obstacles.
Reflecting on these project objectives and activities, I see the potential to create a
comprehensive approach to fitness education. By conducting personalized fitness
assessments, I can tailor plans to meet individual needs, ensuring everyone has the
opportunity to improve. Implementing adaptive physical education programs acknowledges
and accommodates diverse abilities, fostering inclusivity.
Integrating fitness into the academic curriculum underscores its importance,
nurturing well-rounded individuals. Establishing a supportive learning environment fosters
confidence and motivation, while incorporating variety and fun games ensures sustained
interest and enjoyment. Overall, these activities align with my goal of promoting holistic
well-being and fostering a lifelong commitment to fitness.
