FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the Bureau oflndian Standards, after the draft hnalized by
the Made-up Textiles (Including Ready-Made Garments) Sectional Committee had been approved by the Textile
Division Council.

This standard is based on particulars obtained from Directorate Genoral ofPosts and Telegraphs, Govemment of
India.

This standard was originally pubtished in 1984 and has been revised in the light of experience gained since last
revision and to incorporate the following major changes:

a) Requirement for tearing strength has been included;


b) Requirement for sewing thread has been revised as per IS 4229;
c) The colour ofthe cloth used for manufacruring airmail bags has been changed to orange from oxford blue;
d) Amendment No. I to Indian Standard has been incorporated; and
e) References to Indian Standard have been updated.

The composition ofthe Committee responsible for the formulation ofthis standard is given in Annex B.
