BIM PROJECT BASIC BIM FRAMEWORK WITH ARCHICAD
M. ARCH. VALENTYN-VLADYSLAV KOTSARENKO
INTRODUCTION TO BIM Architect l BIM Coordinator l Instructor
This first module will be only theoretical and various examples will be reviewed with the intention of planting initial ideas about Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its possibilities.
Several branches of BIM will be addressed such as the basic concepts, requirements, possibilities, adoption, implications, implementation, examples, etc.
While several examples will be reviewed of all the possibilities that BIM offers, the course will mainly address the BIM workflow at an architectural level with the use of ArchiCAD.
The process of registering and obtaining an ArchiCAD license through the "MyArchiCAD" portal will also be reviewed in order to carry out the software installation process.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Architect l BIM Coordinator l Instructor
Based on what was explained throughout the lessons; the interface, work environment and some project preferences will be reviewed in order to get to know the layout and interface of the program.
This module is only preliminary and as such, there is no practical activity that requires attention, but it is important to get to know the program before moving on to practical topics.
Once some basic functions have been reviewed a template will also be programmed, saved and linked in order to learn ways to reduce the initial workload before starting any project.
The template is a topic that can be reviewed at any time during the course, and the student will have to periodically update his or her own template after getting to know new functions and features with ArchiCAD.

FIRST STEPS M. ARCH. VALENTYN-VLADYSLAV KOTSARENKO
Architect l BIM Coordinator l Instructor
Based on what was explained throughout the lessons; a sample project will be consulted in order to get to know the functions for 2D and 3D navigation of a project.
This module is still preliminary and as such, there is once again no practical activity that requires attention, but it is important to get to know the program before moving on to practical topics.
Additional functions such as the selection tool and the configuration of grids and backgrounds for the 2D dimension will also be reviewed preliminarily.
Many sample projects to be opened in ArchiCAD, can be downloaded from the official site at Graphisoft: https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Getting-started/Archicad-Sample-Projects/ta-p/304186
Use ArchiCAD's 2D drawing tools, grid and background definitions, and editing commands to develop a maze similar to the reference provided.
You can divide the maze into 4 quadrants and group them. Likewise, 4 different types of lines can be managed and assigned to the quadrants that make up the labyrinth in order to have a unique appearence.
It is not necessary for the maze to be exactly the same as in the reference, just as proportional as possible.
There is no need to dimension the labyrinth either, the dimensions are provided as a visual reference for this document.
You can work and interpret the activity as many times as necessary in a completely free way, as long as everything done adds to and reinforces the learning process.

2D DIMENTION BASIC BIM FRAMEWORK WITH ARCHICAD
M. ARCH. VALENTYN-VLADYSLAV KOTSARENKO
BASIC CONCEPTS Architect l BIM Coordinator l Instructor
Based on what was covered in the lessons, basic 2D drawing and editing commands will be put into practice for drawing simple geometric figures for this first practical activity.
Choose only two figures, one from the first pair of shapes (A) and one from the second pair of figures (B); if you want to practice even more your 2D drawing skills you can always draw the 4 geometric shapes.
It’s not necessary to apply line thicknesses or handle specific colors for the geometries; for the moment use the pens and colors that come by default in the template.
It’s not necessary for the geometric figures to be exactly the same as in the reference or for them to have exactly the same measurements, just as much proportional as possible.
You can work and interpret the activity as many times as necessary in a completely free way, as long as everything done adds to and reinforces the learning process.

BASIC 2D ROOM M. ARCH. VALENTYN-VLADYSLAV KOTSARENKO
Architect l BIM Coordinator l Instructor
For this activity, you will use ArchiCAD's 2D tools and editing commands to develop a plan similar to the graphical reference in the document.
LINE THICKNESSES
The result should be approximate, it is not necessary to handle exactly the same textures, objects or elements. Wall outlines (0.40 mm)
The general dimensions of the room must be respected along with the specified line qualities.
Fill Foreground (0.20 mm)
Make sure to handle textured hatches to generate a more stylish plant; you can mix colored textures with black and white patterns.
It is not necessary to dimension the floor plan; the dimensions are provided as a visual reference in this document. Door & wall outlines (0.15 mm)

The references need to be divided into different worksheets; avoid putting all the project references together in one place.
In addition to exploiting the PDF files, you will also have to clean the references, or in other words, select all the fills and separate them from the rest of the information.
We will also review additional features such as the trace & reference palette, location settings, project information window and other features.
If you want to work on a different project than the one provided for this course, you can do so as long as it is enough to cover the objectives and put in practice what is covered throughout the course.
LOCATION SETTINGS
It’s not necessary to model and insert stairs, doors, windows or objects for the moment, preferably just focus first on resolving the volumetry for the project.
Be extra careful when handling and managing the layers for the project and assigning layers to your elements (walls and slabs); at the moment we won’t define layer combinations, but just the layers.
Preferably make sure to use a 3D style based on a white model, in order to work more comfortably. You can also copy and paste elements vertically using the edit elements by stories function.
If you want to work on a different project than the one provided for this course, you can do so as long as it is enough to cover the objectives and put in practice what is covered throughout the course.
While the definition of the doors and windows must be close in appearence to the references present in the project, the final design and definition is left to the student's freedom.
Make sure to check that the object library is correctly loaded and linked through the library manager, because if it’s not you’re not going to be able to place doors, windows and all types of objects that depend on the library.
You can also save the parameter configuration for each tool or element with the use of the favorites function, in order to provide feedback to your personal template and have a personal catalog for future projects.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
FACADE
While the definition of objects and components must be close in appearence to the references present in the project, the final design and definition is left at the will and freedom of the student's.
Make sure to check that the object library is correctly loaded and linked through the library manager, because if it’s not you’re not going to be able to place any type of native object in ArchiCAD.
You can use various functions in ArchiCAD to import all types of objects in their different types of file extensions, such as GSM, LCF, SKP, RFA, IFC, 3DM, among others.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
The geometry of the stairs for the project must be exact, so extra care must be taken when modeling the division present in the landing as well as the upper and lower connections of the stairs.
The design of the railings is left to the student's freedom as long as the basic objectives of the section are met and all the railings present in the project are modeled and positioned.
The stair tool can be used to solve various shapes of stairs and not just basic ones. Also keep in mind that the staircase for the course project will be modeled without the finishes, only in its basic volumetry.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
The geometry, pattern and openings in the curtain wall belonging to the project must be as geometrically accurate as possible; make sure to include a door and manage a correct number of divisions.
The curtain wall is a complex tool with wide possibilities and versatility, so some examples of how to create various types of patterns and geometries will also be covered, besides the case for the project.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
The definition of the zones will begin with the adjustment of the zone categories, a function that can be accessed from the definition of the element attributes. Once done, you can proceed with the definition of zones.
Care must be taken with the definition of the parameters so that the zone is displayed in 2D with no solid color (transparent), and so that the label only contains the basic data (key, name and M2) of the zone.
To view the zones in 3D, on one hand you have to adjust the filter that deactivates the default zones in the basic ArchiCAD template, and on the other one you have to carefully adjust the parameters for the 3D visualization.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
For the scale on the floor plan views (and most of the views) we will use 1:75, this with the intention of allowing the views to fit properly on a tabloid size sheet when we start reviewing the layout definitions.
For the definition of pens and colors we are going to use a range of gray colors with the intention of creating a monochromatic definition for all the views.
For the definition of the model view options, we are going to manage the definition groups necessary for architectural plans to control the visualization of openings with their labels, level of detail of objects and more.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.

GRID DEFINITION
Architect l BIM Coordinator l Instructor
For this section the focus is the review, definition and adjustment of the architectural grids present for the project, which will be visible in all the floor plan, cut section, elevation, perspective and more types of views.
For the definition of grids on the floor plan, the display will be adjusted depending on which floors the desired grid is to be shown.
For the definition of grids in section and elevation views, a temporary section will be created in order to allow the result to be visualized once the tool parameters have been adjusted.
For the definition of grids in 3D and perspective, this is optional and it will be up to the student to decide whether the grids remain turned on or off. By default, they will be turned off throughout the course.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
ArchiCAD contains 4 types of different dimensioning tools, which have their specific applications and uses. The general dimensioning tool also contains 6 different dimension variants.
For the moment only the floor plan views will be dimentioned, and in the future when reviewing concepts related to the creation of sections, elevations and other types of views, the required dimensions will be applied.
A general example will be addressed in order to review the operation of the various types of dimensions. Later on, different functions and methods for the automatic dimensioning of views will be reviewed.
You have all the freedom to customize and model the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
GENERAL DIMENSION SETTINGS LEVEL DIMENSION SETTINGS RADIAL DIMENSION SETTINGS ANGLE DIMENSION SETTINGS
The section tool contains a large number of parameters that affect the behavior of the view, and these will be reviewed progressively based on various examples throughout the module.
The "Model Appearance" group contains a wide number of parameters that allow you to control the display of the model, from technical styles up until textured styles for different purposes.
You will use the 2D elements present in the "Object" tool for the setting of the section and elevation views; such as trees, bushes, human scales, decoratión, etc.
You have all the freedom to customize, model and document the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
You can select from 3 different projection types to configure your perspectives; 3 point perspective, 2 point perspective and parallel projection. The decision will be dependant on the type of result.
You can use the 3D Cutaway functions in order to configure and cut out different parts of your model in 3D; the second alternative is to use the marquee tool to cutaway the BIM model from the ground floor view.
You can use the 3D Document from 3D function to create different views for diverse applications such as assembly plans, exploded and isometric types of perspectives and more.
You have all the freedom to customize, model and document the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.

LAYOUT BOOK M. ARCH. VALENTYN-VLADYSLAV KOTSARENKO
Architect l BIM Coordinator l Instructor
For this module the main focus is the correct configuration of master layouts, title blocks, subsets and layouts, with the goal of automating the plan generation process to the limit.
You can generate various types of master layouts with different modulation types; whether it’s single, double or quadruple, in order to automate the placement of several views.
Care must be taken to specify the correct nomenclature in the configurations of the subsets, so that the layouts that are inside the subset have a correct assigned id.
Several parameters will be reviewed and configured for the drawing tool, in order to correctly program the format with which the views will be displayed when positioned in the layouts.
You have all the freedom to customize, model and document the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
MASTER LAYOUT SETTINGS SUBSET SETTINGS LAYOUT SETTINGS DRAWING SETTINGS FIGURE SETTINGS
The different options related to the configuration of the translators that impact the way the DWG files are generated will also be reviewed, this in order to properly export the project to AutoCAD.
You can define an entire organizational structure before exporting the files and define whether they will be exported individually or in a single file.
The method for publishing and exporting results in a direct and simple way will also be reviewed, without having to manage all the parameters present in the publisher.
You have all the freedom to customize, model and document the project to your liking, as long as everything you do adds to the experience and learning process during the course.
