Persuasive Essay

Water is one of the most critical components essential for human life. It is a vital resource

required by society as this is used in one’s daily life, either by means of human consumption or

for external usage. The 6th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) (Clean Water and Sanitation)

mainly focuses on safeguarding society’s water resources by achieving access to both a clean and

affordable source of water to be able to cater to each and every one’s basic needs, while also

preserving water-related ecosystems that are continuously degrading at an increasingly alarming

rate. However, contaminated water still remains to be one of the main causes of the water crisis.

Hence, society must achieve access to clean water resources.

Achieving access to clean water would allow members of society to consume and utilize

a safe and sanitized state of water. According to the World Health Organization (2022), access to

a safe and sufficient water source facilitates the proper practice and application of hygiene,

which is a vital component necessary to prevent the spread of novel water-borne diseases.

Whereas, according to Healing Waters Media (2021), communities obtaining access to a safe and

clean water source would allow them to thrive and achieve greater socioeconomic development.
In relation to this, according to Healing Waters Media (2021), a community’s economic

growth is significantly increased when its water resources are made to be sustainable and

accessible. Making water accessible, especially for the marginalized sector of society, would

allow those collecting water to focus more of their time on their education and generating

livelihood to support themselves and their families. Whereas providing access to a sustainable,

safe, and clean water source would lessen the number of deaths and reduce the possibility of the

spread of novel water-borne diseases. Hence, providing everyone with access to clean water

would allow communities to achieve greater socioeconomic development.

In addition, acquiring access to clean water is an essential component for all living

species to survive. This is necessary for daily human consumption and external usage, by means

of keeping oneself physically healthy (through consistent meals and hydration) and maintaining

proper hygiene. Along with this, it is also crucial for the preservation of aquatic wildlife and their

respective ecosystems.

Hence, achieving access to clean water would allow (1) each member of society to

consume a safe and sanitized state of water, (2) communities to achieve greater socioeconomic

development, and (3) the survival of all living species. However, one way society may achieve

access to clean and sustainable water resources would be to reuse and recycle wastewater

through the application of the three phases of the wastewater treatment process. Establishing this

solution should be regarded as a significant global effort to ensure effectiveness and efficiency

for every member of society to obtain a clean source of water.
