Passado Simples
O passado simples é um tempo verbal utilizado para descrever ações já concluídas no passado, exemplos:

Pedro lived in Santos in 2008. PLAY

Alex called me many times. PLAY

Atenção.
Estas ações podem vir acompanhadas de um advérbio de tempo ou
não, exemplos:

Yesterday. PLAY

PLAY
Last week, last month, last winter.

A month ago, two years ago, ten weeks ago. PLAY

Ronaldo announced his retirement last week. PLAY

PLAY
The root of the problem was a lack of political will.

George Clooney played an essential role. PLAY

They traveled around Europe two months ago. PLAY

O passado simples é composto por verbos regulares e irregulares.


Os verbos regulares formam o passado a partir do acréscimo de -ed ao
verbo, exemplos:

call – called

accept - accepted PLAY

cross – crossed PLAY

Verbos terminados em -e recebem apenas o acréscimo do -d, exemplos:

change - changed PLAY

hope - hoped PLAY

live - lived PLAY

Verbos terminados em consoante + y têm o -y trocado por -i antes do acréscimo do -ed,


exemplos:

try - tried PLAY

carry - carried PLAY

PLAY
cry - cried

Verbos monossílabos terminados em vogal + consoante e verbos


dissilábicos que tenham a última sílaba tônica e que terminem em vogal
+ consoante têm a última consoante duplicada antes do acréscimo do
-ed, exemplos:

stop - stopped PLAY

plan - planned PLAY

prefer - preferred

omit - omitted PLAY

Os verbos irregulares têm sua forma própria de passado, ou seja, não


seguem regra nenhuma. Consulte lista de verbos irregulares no final
deste módulo, exemplos:

Importante

Para frases negativas e interrogativas é necessário o uso do verbo auxiliar did,


exemplos:

Did they evaluate 501 schools? PLAY

PLAY
She did not get a good score.

When did you arrive from Santos? PLAY

I know that Rafael did not watch this movie. PLAY

Note que quando o did está presente nas frases interrogativas e negativa o verbo está
em sua forma básica. A forma contracta de did not é didn’t, exemplos:

Bia did not complete her job. / Bia didn’t complete her job. PLAY

O verbo to be não usa o did como auxiliar.

Maria was not in a good mood. PLAY
