Initiating the replacement action with the HPE Primera
UI
Replacing a hardware component begins and ends with software - the HPE Primera UI. You use the software to:
Procedure
NOTE: The actual component replacement must wait to be completed at the appropriate time during this service action.
Follow this software process that will guide you at the correct time to perform the actual component replacement.
Prerequisites
You are logged in to the HPE Primera UI.
Procedure
NOTE: The video is an example and does not necessarily show the exact location of the component. Verify the exact
location using the graphic that is depicted near the bottom of the HPE Primera UI.
11. When the Waiting for the node to restart message appears, you can begin the hardware component replacement.
Procedure
CAUTION: To prevent outages, data loss or OS issues, verify that the UID LED of the controller node is solid blue
before removing.
• Confirm that the replacement part is present, unboxed, and ready to install.
• Use proper ESD procedures.
• Verify that host multipathing is functional to avoid unnecessary outages.
• Plan the replacement so that the controller node bay is not empty for more than 30 minutes (to avoid overheating).
• Confirm that all cables are clearly labeled for reconnecting to the controller node.
1. Disconnect the cables attached to the controller node ports and adapters.
2. Remove the controller node from the enclosure.
1. Press the two black notches at the end of the lid inward (1).
2. With the notches pressed inward, slide the lid away from the face of the node (2).
3. Slowly lift away from the enclosure and set on a flat surface.
Procedure
a. With your thumb or finger, press outward on the two tabs on the sides of the DIMM (1).
b. Lift the DIMM upwards to remove from the housing (2).
c. Place on the ESD safe mat.
NOTE: The key on the DIMM aligns with the notch on the DIMM housing.
2. Insert the DIMM by pushing downward on the top edge of the DIMM until the tabs on both sides snap into place.
1. Align the pins on the cover with the slots on the controller node.
2. Slide the cover into place over the controller node and snap into place.
a. Because of the weight of the controller node, provide support underneath. Insert the controller node straight into
the enclosure until it stops and the handles begin to engage (1).
b. Swing both controller node handles inward at the same time. Engage the handles with the controller node screw
holes (2).
c. Tighten the handle screws (3).
Reconnect all cables to the onboard ports and adapters in the same location recorded on the labels.
Procedure
Track the progress of the service process in the HPE Primera UI.
The service process includes an automatic health check. The HPE Primera UI displays notifications for any issues that
require fixing.
When issues are fixed or there are no issues, the HPE Primera UI displays a green banner message similar to the following.
Confirm that the green Status LED on the controller node is flashing in synchronization with the other controller nodes.
This LED behavior indicates that the node has joined the cluster (may take up to 10 minutes).
